I’m wanting to give a tooth fairy kit to my DD and niece in anticipation of the need for the tooth fairy. I’ll include some note templates, a tooth pillow and some embellished/sparkly money. What’s the going rate for what the tooth fairy leaves these days?

We paid $5 for the first tooth and after that we gave a $1 coin (at the time it was the Sacajawea dollars). Keeping the amount small teaches kids to budget and save. When ds had a few baby teeth pulled, we gave more as well.

I couldn’t answer because in our case it varied. For most of her teeth she got the gold colored dollar coins. A couple times we didn’t have one one of those but we did have a $2 bill, so I sprayed that with silver Glimmer Mist and put that in her little tooth locket thing. Then about a year and a half ago she had to have oral surgery to have 8 baby teeth pulled at once because they weren’t falling out on their own, and when that happened the tooth fairy gave her $20 but that was a special situation. The tooth fairy also let her keep those teeth, LOL. 🤣

So when my one son lost his 1st tooth, I only had a 10.00 bill on me, so that set the precedent. My youngest just loamy his 1st tooth this week and thankfully I had a 10 on me.
So for us it’s a high amount because I usually don’t have cash.

Always more for the first tooth and after $1.
Oh and our Tooth Fairy sprays the money with hairspray and sprinkles on glitter, so the money is sparkly!!

Also, keep this little tidbit handy, just in case the tooth fairy forgets to come! Sometimes the tooth fairy has a very busy night, and sometimes it bumps its wing and has to stop for the night! But don't worry, it will come tonight, because the tooth fairy wing can heal in a day! .... it is so easy to forget when your life is so busy, but by golly, don't forget the next night! LOL The tooth fairy also let her keep those teeth, LOL. 🤣 This reminds me of my son getting his wisdom teeth out when he was younger. He asked the dentist if he could keep them... The dentist said Sure, what are you goin to do with them... He and his buddies had an elaborate plan for a mock fight at school, ending with him spitting out a bunch of teeth... Oh lord! The dentist was just hooting over this.

So for us it’s a high amount because I usually don’t have cash. That is why the dollar coins worked so well- when he was 5 or so, i went to the bank and got 20 of them. I sure wasnt gonna carry them around and spend them, so they were always there when we needed them!

No kids. I saw a cute thing on facebook once. Leave this note on the floor: Dear *child name*, I came by last night and your room was such a mess, I tripped over something. I didn't want to get hurt, so I left. Please clean your room, so I can come back tonight-tomorrow. Love, the Tooth Fairy.

I answered $5, but in all fairness it could be whatever is in my husband's wallet. The tooth fairy has also been known to give the same $5 for several teeth as Ms. Fairy had to take a cash loan from the piggy bank that to be honest has not been repaid. LOL. The biggest charge my kid gets is setting up the elaborate throne for the tooth. A stack of books or blocks with a stuffy on top with a big Dino on top of that with the tooth in the dino's mouth. The tooth fairy is kind enough to take the tooth and cram the money in the dino's claw or some such thing.
Here's the real question. What do I do with the baggies of teeth crammed in my underwear drawer? Throw them out? Keep them forever? ACK!

We gave DD a silver dollar for every tooth lost as well as some cash. It was probably a dollar or two, but that was a long time ago! Now I'd probably give her $5 or so. DH would go to the numismatic store and get new silver dollars with the current year on them. She has a nice collection now that she's grown. Here's the real question. What do I do with the baggies of teeth crammed in my underwear drawer? Throw them out? Keep them forever? ACK! Good question! They are stuffed in one of my old jewelry boxes.

We did $100 the first tooth and $20 thereafter.
Always made the money super glittery.

My kids got a quarter (they are currently 14/16yo). I really didn't want to to be a big $$ thing.so I just kept it simple. They had fun writing letters to the tooth fairy that she would respond to. It wasn't about the money.

You should see if they are still intact. I noticed that some of my kids' teeth exploded after dehydration.

We gave $20 for the first tooth and $5 after that.
I don’t regret it at all…that stage in a kid’s life is fleeting, and I’m glad we did everything we could to make it joyful!

I did dollar bill origami for my kid. He had his origami dollars on display in his room until he hit 7th grade and he was allowed to walk to the end of our street to go to In n Out by himself. He is 22 and still can't figure out why the cashiers always made him stand there and unfold each creation!

When my son lost his first he expected a gold coin because that was what he saw on the cartoon Goldie and Bear. Tracking the first one down was a challenge in a pinch, but like others said we stocked up after that. I would also be lying if I said I never snuck into my son’s piggy bank to “borrow” a coin when he and his sister were both dropping teeth like leaves in the fall 🤣. At some point he also found out $2 bills were a real thing. So molars are paid out at $2 each. Ours doesn’t leave notes or anything special unless she is “too busy” and is a day late when a special piece if candy might appear. My kids now hope she is late every time 🤦🏻♀️

Lots to think about here. When my kids were younger the tooth fairy didn’t come unless their rooms were clean enough. After their first few attempts with letters back, they didn’t even bother leaving their tooth unless they cleaned their room!

It depends on how many teeth she's picking up that night, how badly she needs them, how much change she has, etc. There is no rhyme or reason to how much she leaves. haha

Wow, the tooth fairy succumbed to inflation. When I was a kid we got a dime. I think I gave my kids $1?!?!?
If we forgot a night then I'd just tell the kids the tooth fairy sometimes gets backlogged, but she will there that night. As soon as they left for school the deed would be done.

I picked up silver dollars when DD was getting to be that age, so it was special money coming from the tooth fairy. There were a few times with "special" teeth when it was higher, and there was at least one with whatever we could find!

I used to leave mine in a glass of water on the kitchen counter. Easy job for my mom. There would be some quarters in the cup in the morning.

Here's the real question. What do I do with the baggies of teeth crammed in my underwear drawer? Throw them out? Keep them forever? ACK! I was just going through my drawers over the summer & found a bunch of teeth from my oldest (college age now). I kept the first one they ever lost, and called them into the room, handed them a pile of baggies with teeth & said "Here, you decide what to do with these. They're yours."
