I know the stores all have holiday decor out and some of the people I follow on YouTube are starting to decorate. But I was curious if “normal” people are already decorating for the holidays or if you wait? I generally wait until after thanksgiving (preferably the weekend after but this year might not be that early). What do you do?

I am a wait-er. Usually things go up after Thanksgiving.
I see some lights up on houses already. A friend put up photos already of their tree.

I never put anything up until at least we are into the month of December. I did see people putting up outside decoration last weekend, but it was a beautiful day to do so. My area tends to get real cold around Thanksgiving, so its wise to get it done before the real cold and possible snowy weather.

Not until December, I'd be sick of it by Christmas Day if I decorated now. The tree usually doesn't go up until mid-December, but stays up until New Year's.

I'm Canadian and many of us do not decorate for Christmas until after Remembrance Day on November 11th out of respect for our veteran's ...
I don't usually decorate until the first weekend in December ...

No! I actually took down my fall decorations and have a clean slate in my downstairs area, outside, and in my craft nook.
We always start the week of Thanksgiving since we are all off. It allows us to take out time and go through things to see if we want to donate/purge them.
While I love to look at the decorations in the stores, I am not ready for it to be in my house.

We just packed away Halloween last weekend and are putting up our Fall decorations. Christmas decorations don't go up until after Thanksgiving.
The one exception is the outdoor Christmas lights. My boyfriend puts them up in November on a day when the weather is good, but they don't get turned on until after Thanksgiving.

I usually start decorating at the start of Advent - this year, that’s December 3rd - or when the Christmas Markets open here ( November 27 this year). When we still had our kids at home, I would wait longer, as my younger DS’s birthday is December 14, so I’d wait to have that out of the way.

Not yet but I'm planning to put my tree up and decorate the weekend before Thanksgiving. I take everything down the weekend of New Years so I want to get as much out of it as possible. My favorite thing is to keep all the lights off except the tree and since it gets dark early now I'm really looking forward to that.
I also dislike putting up Christmas decorations in the heat and it's supposed to be 86 degrees this weekend! I want a cold wet winter to start ASAP!

I will be the day after Thanksgiving as we are hosting this year. If it's a year we are not hosting, I might put it up early Thanksgiving week as I'm always off, but even then it's all based on if I want to do it then or not.
It's all on me to put it up as my husband could care less. Now that I went to a 4ft tree versus the 7.5 we used to have it's much more manageable. Last year when I pulled it all out I went through and and donated a bunch of stuff and continued to do what with each season this year as I was changing things out. Would love to be down to 1 storage bin per season.

Not yet, but I purchased a new slim tree yesterday. I have been looking for several years hoping to snag one I liked on clearance, but alas that hasn’t happen. I bit the bullet yesterday. I think I will like it. It has a choice of clear or multi colored lights. The lights are tiny LEDs and the wires must be very thin and are wrapped in the branches. I will have to pair down on my ornament’s, but I can’t handle getting the big tree up and down the basement stairs anymore.

I was going to put up my tree last weekend but needed help getting it out of the garage. I ended up doing lots of yard work and didn't feel like putting up the tree. I'll probably put it up weekend after this as I'm going out of town this weekend. For sure, it will be up before the 30th when DS visits.

Thanksgiving is long done. Once we get snow, fall decor is over. I decorate whenever I feel like it in November. I have decorated before Remembrance Day. I have a few strings of clear lights up already, to help with the shorter days. I'll leave those up until March.

No, I do not like my Christmas stuff up for more than 2-ish weeks. It will go up the weekend of Dec. 16 and then I'll take it down around Dec. 28th. We have the whole week off after Christmas so it will def be put away before NYE.
I'm not a fan of seeing commercials and decorations starting Nov. 1. I'm sick of all of it by the time Christmas gets here. I'm Christian and do love the birth of Jesus aspect, but do not like all of the commercialization and "happiest time of year" stuff. I'm quite the Grinch about all of that!

We used to be strict after Thanksgiving decorators, but I feel like it takes me a bit to get everything like I want it and my sons birthday is always right after and it’s always crazy. So, last year I talked my husband into decorating a bit earlier last year. I was shocked he went for it.
I have also been really trying to enjoy the month of December with my family and be really intentional about spending quality time together and not a grumpy stress case. I had gotten to the point where I wasn’t really even enjoying Christmas and was just doing it to get it over with and meet everyone’s expectations.
This Christmas we are leaving for Mexico from the 18-26, so we will be gone for Christmas and I just want to enjoy every second before we go, so when my college aged girls were home this weekend they all wanted to help and we did it together. I just love that we are doing it exactly the way it works for us and it’s crazy how spreading some of these things out really has cut the stress considerably!
I say, do what works for you and helps make your holiday more enjoyable!!

My big tree will go up the weekend before Thanksgiving - DS1 is coming over to help. My bedroom tree & dining room tree will go up around the same time but it could be before, depending on the weather. The other decor is already starting to find its way out and up.
We will be gone the week of Thanksgiving and I have a party at my home the first weekend of December, so I want to get it all out & put up before I leave for Thanksgiving. I am not going over the top this year but I want to see how it all looks ahead of time (in case I need to add more, etc) since this is the first year in this house.
Edited: not going to lie --- DS2 is deployed at the moment and wont be home for Christmas this year for the first time and I am fighting the depression that this (apparently) brings. Starting to decorate early has brought me some comfort and joy. Am I going to be tired of it all by Christmas? Probably. But oh well. I will deal with that when it gets here, lol.

I'm going to get my outside lights and decorations up hopefully this weekend. I do this early while it's good weather and not too cold. I won't turn the lights on until I put my inside stuff up, usually the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

My kids come for Thanksgiving the day after TG. They want to pull out the Christmas boxes. We put up four trees, so if someone wants to help, I'm all for getting it up early. My preference is to leave the fall stuff up until the first weekend in December. Both of my sons have their houses currently decorated for Christmas.

Also the first year in a new house and I have no idea how to decorate. The road-facing part of the house is actually the back of the house so it doesn’t lend itself to my regular scheme. As a 20 year military spouse I am sorry to hear you are having a tough time with your son’s deployment. In Canada our Military Family Resource Centers (where I work) provide service to parents…maybe you could connect with your closet base/wing/ship to see if there is a resource/support group that might be helpful. Take care!

Yes, my Christmas decorating is done as of today. I enjoy them way too much to only have them out a month. But I also have it all down and packed away on the 26th.
Do what makes you happy, whether that is now, later or never

I host Thanksgiving. The spot I like to put the tree is ideal for an extra table for Thanksgiving dinner so I wait until after my out of town guests leave to start decorating.

God, no. I dont need a tree in my living room for 2 months. We typically put up the tree whatever weekend is close to 2 weeks before Christmas. It comes down by New Years Eve at the latest.
