Kindle Paperwhite, MacbookPro and iPhone13. Happy with my phone camera. I'm seeing iPads on sale and wondering if I would benefit from having one. How/when do you mostly use yours? UPDATE: THANK YOU ALL for sharing! I just ordered the 1oth gen iPad (saved $100) and a cover. Looking forward to using it.

I have two iPads, a Pro and a Mini. I had the Pro before the Mini, and I got it mainly for Procreate (drawing program). It is 12.9", so almost as big and heavy as a laptop, especially if you get a keyboard case for it. I always wanted a Mini, and got one last year when the newest model was finally able to pair with the latest Apple Pencil (I didn't want two different pencils). I love my Mini. It is about the size of a Kindle, so it is easy to take places. I take it on trips and I take it to work. It is great on trips because I can use the Kindle App, or I can play games on the airplane, or even just browse the internet when I have wi-fi (I didn't get the one that uses cellular data). When I work out in the garage, I put YouTube videos on. It is just a very convenient little gadget. It is basically a bigger iPhone.
I've never used the camera on my iPads, so that feature is not important to me. Since it doubles as a Kindle, I no longer use my old Kindle. It depends what you want to do with it. If you want to do some "work" like spreadsheets, Photo Editing, Drawing, etc. I would get one of the regular sized iPads. If you want to replace your Kindle, and have added features like games or internet browsing, I would get the Mini. The Mini can do spreadsheets and all that too, but it is just harder because it is so small.
If I had to choose between the two, I would get a Mini.

Honestly if you already have a Macbook, IMO you don't need an iPad.
The iPad doesn't do anything a laptop + phone won't, other than the touch screen functionality, which really is only a bonus for artists and maybe reading books in bed / watching videos with a larger screen. iPads are great for those who don't need the full power of a laptop, but if you use one already you may find the ipad limiting and baby-gated just like modern phones are.

I use mine for everything. Our laptop is too slow, and my phone is too small. I use the Kindle app on the iPad instead of a dedicated Kindle. We have the cell service with it, which I love when traveling and when the power and/or cable go out for whatever reason. What do you do the most on your machines? Where do you browse your SM apps or the internet? Because I much prefer doing both of those on the iPad. Do you want/need to be more mobile? That’s probably the biggest question.

I use my iPad more than my laptop at this point. Took me quite awhile to actually use it though. It is awfully convenient for YT. It screams at me for usage, but I rarely watch television and YT is often my emotional support noise.
It has finally reached the point it needs to be charging more often than not.

I love my iPad. I use it for everything. Scrolling social media, reading books, emails. I barely use my phone; I prefer the iPad.

My iPad is never far from me and I use it for just about everything. My DD and I FaceTime a couple of times a week and the bigger screen is perfect. So many apps are just better on it. I use Readly a lot to read magazines - my iPhone is too small for that and my laptop is just wrong! I use a jigsaw puzzle app a lot too, and again the iPad is the ideal size for that. I probably use it most in bed, because I can prop it against a pillow and lie and Pea, watch TV, YouTube, etc. I have a few games that are more pleasurable to play, both because my fingers don’t get in their own way and also because I can see them better!. The speaker is better than it is on my iPhone so I use Spotify on it more. In fact, just about everything is much better.
For a long time I used the Kindle and/or Books app, but I found myself getting distracted by the fact that games, videos, news, etc were only a touch away, so now I prefer to read on my Kindle.
It is one of only a few things that I would have to replace immediately if it were to break. 😊

Oh my word, I used to think just like you. I got my first iPad (I'm now on my 2nd) several years ago. I absolutely cannot be without. I have a Macbook and iPhone, and I LOVE my iPad. I actually use it the most. I take it on every trip (no my Macbook), and I even use it for work. I always tell hubby, if this thing breaks, I will have to have a new one the same day. No questions! I am using it right now in fact.

I use my IPad for everything.I take it when I travel. Download movies and watch on the plane. I take photos and edit them easier because I can see better. I read on it, I shop on it. This is my most used device.

LOVE my iPad.
I use Procreate on it for sketching cakes for clients.
I use games on it (Junes Journey mostly) for downtime/me time.
I do use it for reading - I don't own any other device for that.
And I use it for scrolling when we are watching tv - 2Peas, internet, socials....

I had an iPad mini and loved it but I cant use it anymore since it won’t update anymore so I can’t download Netflix or YouTube. I have a laptop and it’s heavy to use to watch shows. So yes I get one if you can!

I would look at different brands of tablets and find the one that does what you need. I have a Kindle Fire tablet that doesnt do much, but it does what I need it to.

I use my ipad for almost everything. I have a 10" size, pretty sure it is an ipad Air. I also have an iphone 14, kindle paperwhite, laptop (work) and desktop. While I am happy with all of these devices, the ipad is what I use the most by far. It's mainly for fun I don't really do much productive on it if that is important to you.

I have the largest iPad. I LOVE it! I mainly read on it. It's nice to have the larger pages. I also play games on it. Most of my surfing is on my laptop.

I have an iPhone and new MacBook Pro. I used to use my iPad alllll the time. My DS had an old iPad that the battery crapped out in so he started using my iPad. It’s now his. I mostly just use my phone for everything I used my iPad for. If it wasn’t covered in kid funk I’d probably use it more and keep thinking I’d like one but just don’t want to spend the money on it.

I have a laptop, a kindle fire and an IPad. I only use the IPad - for everything, including reading w/the Kindle app. I use it every single day and will replace it immediately when it dies.

I have had an iPad since they first came out in 2010 and can't imagine not having one at this point. I currently have the 11" iPad Pro, as well as Mac and the iPhone 12Pro (will upgrade 15 Pro Max after the New Year). The iPad does everything that a Kindle does, but so much more as well. All those photos you take with your phone will be available to view/use on the Ipad. I use mine for everything from games to video viewing to internet surfing to email. Because all my Mac devices are synced, I can access files and information while out and about, not wait until I get back home. When I travel I have a case with a built in keyboard so I can keep up with household business easily.
If you decide to try one, remember that you have 14 days to return it if it isn't what you want. Since you are Apple with everything else, I suspect you will like it though!

Another IPad lover. I guess it really depends on how you use your devices. I very rarely use my actual personal/home computer as most things, internet related, can be done on my iPad. Things like word or excel I still use my computer.
My phone screen is not large enough and it is hard to type on. The iPad is the perfect size for my basic internet needs, scrolling, reading, searching, etc., but not too big to travel around with me. I would not use it, typically, to take pictures or such. I use it for games and music also.
ETA - I just read the other responses and I never mentioned FaceTime which is another reason I use my iPad as much. I FaceTime with my mother and my niece and nephew a lot and the iPad is the easiest device to use and a reasonable sized screen, in my opinion.

I hate typing on my ipad (i dont have a keyboard for it) but my kids use it for school. They started in HS - their school is 1:1 ipads, and DD has taken those skills with it to college. I use mine mostly for surfing the web and streaming , or reading with the kindle app. I prefer to use my kindle for reading, but there are times in a pinch i need my ipad!

Another iPad-for-everything user. The only time I fire up my laptop is when I need to use the 3D printing software on it that’s not available for an iPad. That’s it. Everything else is done on my iPad and it’s extremely convenient and portable 😊.

If you have a MacBook, you probably don’t need one, but I think you might like having one. I use an iPad and bought a keyboard to go with it. The one thing I love about my iPad is that it is so portable. I download shows to watch on planes. I have the Kindle app and can use it for reading. It fits easily in my backpack purse and I take it with me when I sub at schools. It’s great for recipes in the kitchen. The iPad that I am currently using is something like $240 right now - a great deal.

Love, love my iPad. I do almost everything on it, and it is to the point that I rarely use my laptop anymore. When I bought my first one about 5 years ago, I wasn’t sure how much I would use it. I use it at some point every single day. My dh calls it my emotional support device because it’s always within reach wherever I am. Using my iPad now…

My original one that was the old thick, heavy type I gave to my husband. We don't use that one any more. Then my husband bought a new black one. My older white one started having to be charged more often and now I just use it when it is plugged into the charger next to my chair. I use my newest one mostly. I do like that whatever I do on one iPad shows up on my other one as they are synced.

Omg. I absolutely, positively could not live without my iPad. It is on 24 hrs a day because I play it while I sleep. It’s always in my lap playing word games, puzzles, news, you name it. I can’t watch tv without doing something on it. My iPad is always on. My husband is well aware of this.
And yes, I am leaning into my ADD in my old age. I’ve quit fighting it.
My vote? GET ONE NOW!
Between my and husband and I we have 4 maybe 5. My husband uses them on his boat, his plane, his golf simulator, his flight simulator, and also just for messing around. We are an iPad-heavy household.
my husband also has a kindle for reading in the sun on the boat.
