For $300 you too can own the pink and red $20-30 10oz cups from Target. Four people have already bought some. 🤯🤣

Oh and for $2000 you can buy the exclusive Starbucks Target Glitter pink cup.
I would love for Target and Starbucks to make more and release an overstock to stop this insanity.

VOMIT. That's just horrible that people would pay that. Apparently they have WAY more $$$ than me!

I looked on ebay yesterday bc i didnt even see an endcap at my target, and was curious what the colors looked like. They are red, hot pink and a light pink I think. nothing else "special" that I could tell. And I for sure wouldn't pay $300 for a cup unless its made out of GOLD or something LOL

1. Why cant people leave things on the shelves so people who actually want them can access them? 2. If people would stop paying the inflated prices, those people would stop doing it.

People can do whatever they want with their money. I’d bet almost every one of us has something that someone can’t believe we spend money on. What’s the point in denigrating others for how they choose to spend?
And unless/until the stores limit purchases of special edition items, the resellers aren’t doing anything wrong.

More power to them. My DH would probably love to trade my scrapbook and purse habit for a $300 cup. Sure, people shouldn't buy out all the cups so others have a chance, but otherwise, this isn't something I can get worked up about.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous...but if someone saw what I spent on stamps/dies/accessories in last couple of months they'd probably think I was out of my ever loving mind. To each their own.

I saw a video on instagram of a dad and his daughter (about 10 years old) waiting outside a target from about 2:00 am for a Stanley cup. They got the pink one for his daughter but were told only one per family. Wonder if all Targets were doing that?

It's only "worth" that until someone pays that. And people always pay. 🤯

The stores/companies love this kind of thing because it's just heaps of free publicity. The resellers flock to buy limited merch, and people who don't want to be forced to pay the resellers come out early to try to score some for themselves. So you get a big crowd and lots of hype and media coverage, and that keeps Target & Stanley in people's conversations. As for why someone would buy it---I imagine some are buying it so they can try to cash in on the hype, too. If they can get their hands on them before the chatter dies down, then they can plaster pics across their social media accounts and people will likely click to see if so and so really did score "one of those cups!".

It ticked off the dozens of people that waited in line in the rain when only the first few huge families bought them all. I don’t know why they didn’t follow the rules but they didn’t and I bet they aren’t the only one.

One time, my SO, who was then still a BF, wanted to buy 2 of something that was limited to one per household. Nothing like the Stanley Mugs. There was no long line or rush for it. But the clerk made us show ID to prove we were not from the same household! Target could have done that if they really wanted to, but they had no incentive to care. As long as they sold the merchandise, that's all that mattered.

I just posted this in the other Stanley thread. The hype is crazy. I feel like I now need to guard my $35 cup. I have seen it for $115 and other crazy prices. This is the Stanley Ice Flow I have. Very different from the other Stanley's (which I don't own). My aunt got me an Ice Flow for my birthday last June, and I have been hooked ever since. But I guess I need to put my pink one under lock and key.

Yes naby64, the handle is a game changer!!!!! I was worried at first but there is nothing as awesome. I LOVE this thing! That's why the other Stanley's don't interest me because of the "normal handle." I can't do those. This I can do!

So I guess there were two special releases, one on the 31st which was the Target Valentine release and another a couple of days ago which was a collaboration with Target and Starbucks. Anyway, the video at the beginning of the article is interesting to watch. Even young girls are into the craze. The article also mentions that one guy was arrested when he tried to climb over a counter and steal some. www.yahoo.com/news/starbucks-latest-stanley-cup-collaboration-053823044.htmlStanley has a good thing going. I wonder how long it will last. What is the lifespan on a hot fad like this? It seems like it has been a couple of years now.

It's not different than those that buy concert tickets only the resell them for way way way more than face value. As far as I know, scalping is still illegal but yet they are able to get away with it. If they could crack down on resellers selling for such a ridiculous mark-up (cups or tix) then they'd stop doing it.

Give it a few years and one will probably be able to buy one at a thrift store for a couple dollars. The beverage version of Beanie Babies.

I find the huge Stanley mug to be interesting. I don’t think I will ever own one. I have pretty Swell water bottles with an added carrying handle that work well for me. They were originally $44, but I got them for $13 when the Today Show had a deal on them. It was a smoking deal and if I had to do it over again I would have bought several more to give as gifts. They will keep a drink cold for a long time. I guess I can see why someone would love their expensive huge bottle that does it’s job well, but I can’t imagine standing in line or paying an outrageous amount for one.

Coming in to clarify since I have the time. Copy and paste from Jeremygirls thread.
Hi, OP sliding in LOL 😆
My post was about how people ruin the fun for others by buying up stock and reselling ut for way more than it should. Then the aspect of those who spend the money and feed those who overcharge for an item.
This also happened with the CVS Puffer Jacket Snoopy. A $20 Snoopy is selling for upwards of $300.
I collect Peanuts and Snoopy. I am not paying that.
Did I pay $20 more for the pink Yeti color I wanted that just retired? Yes. But it's my only large Yeti (I also have a 10oz) and is used every day. It was sold directly from Yeti as well. I wasn't feeding the addiction of an off seller.
Having lived through the formula shut down and seeing stores and people sell the available formulas for almost double the price upset me. There were families who couldn't spend $5000 to feed their baby/child. We had to take out a $10,000 loan to feed our son.
My point was about buy outs and resell and that until people stop overspending for items not really needed (cup, Snoopy) it won't stop.
Fortunately for formula, the government stepped in.
I tried to sell extra formula for below cost and because I don't have a business I couldn't because I needed the tax forms and name registered to sell it so it could be tracked and they could see I wasn't raising the cost.
I feel bad for those who would have liked to get a cup.
On top of that the frenzy of it all. People running for a cup. Pushing. Grabbing more than 1.
Buy what you want but realize that you are feeding into commercialism and consumerism and feeding the drug of choice for resellers.
That is what I have an issue with. The extreme mark ups.
Again living it during EleCare shut down made me see just how bad it is. And that is a needed item. It's food for so many.
Instead of about $1400 a month it was now $2500-2800. Double. All because these people knew it was wanted and needed and marked it up.

Ridiculous. Why do people feel the need? FOMO Fear Of Missing Out. People see others buying them, see influencer's on Instagram and other platforms, and FOMO sets in. It's a real thing! I have experienced it before. Something that I didn't even thing about, then didn't really think I needed, but the more I saw it, the more I wanted it. I didn't want to miss out on getting it... BAM! Scrabooking supplies, home decor, etc. I now take the 'park it in my cart' approach. Put it in my real or virtual cart and think about it. Do I really want it? Do I have a place for it? Is it worth the cost? Most of the time it is not - and I put it back or delete it from my cart. I have a lot of things on my Amazon wish list. I go back weeks or months later and look at them. Do I still want it? Almost always no, I do not.

My local news keep running stories on the bullying going on in schools over these cups it's very bad apparently. The kids having to have them, the ones who brag about having them and the kids who can't afford them being bullied.
