My dd is a high school senior. She has a lot going for her - she is tall, beautiful (not just mom bias), social, and very smart. Smart is the important part! She had a 32 on her ACT with a 36 on the math and her last choice college offered her almost $30k in scholarships. She wants to go into to robotics and has been taking a lot of AP and dual enrollment classes (could easily end up with more than a semester’s worth of credits by the time she graduates.) She really didn’t need that backup school since she had a good chance at getting in most places she would apply. However, she had applied to one particular school knowing it might be a long shot to get in. Well, this week she heard from that school and in a week and a half she will be meeting for an admissions interview with someone from MIT!!! Even though we know it is still nowhere near certain she’ll be accepted, just the fact that her academic resume didn’t immediately end up in the round file has us very excited for her!

That's great news! It's a real testament to her hard work. We lived just down the road from MIT and loved the area.

Isn't it awesome to see them get rewarded for all thier hard work in HS? My son has a 31 ACT, and is taking a really aggressive schedule for a senior, he's heard from all but one of his schools... just waiting for one more and then decision time!

Very nice! The fact that she got called for a face-to-face interview means she's on a shorter list. Maybe not THE short list yet, but definitely shorter since her application wasn't rejected outright. It was flagged for someone to read through, then it was not rejected at that point. Instead it was moved to the "in-person interview" pile. That's a big deal!

MIT, how wonderful! I used to wish my son would settle on something like this. Unfortunately he was never a fan of doing any type of school work...if test scores alone were enough, he might have done well.
Sounds like a great kid! Congrats to her!

Congratulations! Way to be rewarded for all of her hard work.
If they've asked her to come in for an interview, so many eyes have already been on her application. They likely already made their decision. Can't wait to hear her good news.

They likely already made their decision. Can't wait to hear her good news. My daughter attended a scholarship interview event and it was totally a recruiting event. My husband went with her and his perception was that the people running the event were recruiting top students and that all of them were likely to get great scholarships.

That is so awesome! Congrats to your daughter!! 30K in scholarships is amazing as well as possible MIT entrance. My son had his freshman year of credit done before he stepped on campus after graduation. I think it just put his whole four years at a much better pace. He couldn't graduate early due to engineering classes only offered certain semesters, but all four semesters were easier since he didn't have to take so many credits. His senior year he was working as an engineer and taking very few credits. Got him ahead of his peers.

Congratulations to your DD and you! What an exciting time!
My DS went through the interview process for MIT recently. His interviewer explained they ask alumni to interview as many applicants as possible who are local to them. I’m not sure how accurate that is. DS came away with a different perspective of MIT and it’s much further up his list now. Best of luck to your DD!

My son just finished a masters degree in engineering from MIT. He was able to attend classes at both MIT and Harvard. He had an amazing experience and met some lifelong friends there. Good luck to your daughter!
