Drive around, knock on doors, and ask if you'd sell them stuff? We've been stopped while doing yardwork multiple times to be asked if we're selling one of our cars (always the same one) and not by the neighbors, just random people driving around... I was walking DS home from school a few minutes ago, saw a car pull up to our house, and the guy wanted to know if we would sell our camping trailer. This is not the first time we've been asked that... We live on a dead-end, and you can't see the trailer until you're pretty much in front of our house. So weird... ETA: the car is currently on the naughty list and going to the mechanic for the 3rd time in 3 months, so if someone asks to sell it, this time I might be more tempted to say yes

Only once that I can recall. Years ago when we lived in our former house, someone knocked on the door wanting to buy an old car we had. Not old enough to be a collectors item, just a used car that we didn't drive and dh was thinking of getting rid of it anyway and sold it to him!
I don't even remember what kind of car it was. Dh had bought it used just for an extra car in addition to his truck.

No. I live in a gated community, so not too many cars just cruising around. True story - A coworker had someone over to repair something. The repairman was interested in his house, and asked my coworker if he planned to sell his house soon. At that time, my coworker had no intention of selling his house. But, guess what, he did sell it the repairman! I guess the offer put a bug in his ear, and my coworker and his wife went looking around and found another house they liked. So, they sold their house to the repairman! I guess it doesn't hurt to ask!

That happened with our neighbors and their house. They had someone come in to do some repair work and the repairman asked if they might ever be interested in selling. They thought about it and decided if they could find another house they liked better they would. Which they did, in a nearby neighborhood with smaller yards, and they sold! It was pretty crazy.

The only thing we get asked to sell is our house. lol. But not in person. It's flyers on the door, or actual postcards that come in the mail. Not sure if they target the entire neighborhood or just houses like ours. Ours is one of the older small houses that exist here next to the big mega newer ones. Since we are just across the river from DC, and it's an easy commute, our property values have skyrocketed and the developers want to buy up the small houses and build bigger ones. The thing is... I always wonder who the heck would just sell their house to someone who sends a postcard or leaves a flyer? lol I think I'd rather trust that whole process to a reputable real estate agent.

We had a Burley bike trailer when our children were small. Those early ones were built to last! We hung it by the frame in our garage and at least a couple times every year a random stranger would stop and ask if we wanted to sell it. Our son has it at his house now and uses it for his kids (our grandchildren)

About 12-14 years ago we had a white Mitsubishi Lancer that we’d get random offers to buy. Some in person and some a note on the door. Only ever that one car. I thought it was weird at the time, too.

Not in general, but when my son had a classic car parked at the side of the house, we had several people approach when outside, but a few times a note was left on the door asking if we were interested in selling. One had a nice offer and son did call and he sold the car to him. A few weeks later we had a huge hail storm that damaged so many homes and cars. Like golf ball to baseball size hail stones. I think it was fate that the car sold. It would have been a shame for the old car to get the hell beat out of it. Hopefully, the person that bought it had it in a garage.

We get calls from Real Estate agents asking if we are thinking of selling our house pretty often.

The guy at our parking garage used to ask DH to sell him his Camry when he was ready to get rid of it. He was annoyed when we used it as a trade-in. I felt bad about it, but we needed to do it that way!

kinda, but its not really the same thing.
DH has a man cave where we collect classic cars. This mancave is not at our house, but in a commercial property downtown in our city. If he leaves the overhead garage door open and people can see whats inside, then yes, there is always someone stopping to ask if they can buy one of the cars or some of his antique gas pumps, etc.

No, but we have received post cards and phone calls (ignored, or course) asking if we’d be interested in selling our house (realtors) or cars (from dealerships.)

I'm similarly located to you monklady123 , and we were targeted in that same postcard campaign from a real estate company a few months ago. I was thinking like you - Who sells to these people? LOL ETA: Not drive-by people asking (we live on a dead-end street), but we definitely do get a lot of postcards/flyers in the mail asking us about selling our house, and emails and letters asking if want to sell our late-model cars. DS & I both got new cars in 2019 and after COVID hit, the number of car-buying offers went up drastically...we actually ended up selling DS's car to a dealership (for a small profit - good newer used cars were like gold in mid-COVID) when he went overseas to study since he wasn't going to be using it for a year.

No, we live on a street where there aren't a ton of cars, very few door to door people and neighbors just wave and walk on by. So quiet compared to our last house that was in between some apartments and more major thoroughfares.

yes - more so at our old house which was a bit strange since we were on an easement behind other property and not visible from the road. But the people on the other side of the easement had a big corner lot (maybe 15-20 acres) that they stored dozens of junk cars on (none visible from our property but plenty visible from the roads). So we often got people asking if we were selling them and/or if we knew how to reach the owner (which we didn't).
Did have people ask about DH's project Mustang several times but more typically UPS/FedEx drivers or the electic company people...people who were already ON our property for business purposes.
I think there's only been one at this house - asking about DD's Ford Ranger.

The new owner's of our former house briefly put it on the market, but for some reason every real estate agent in a 100-mile radius linked our phone number as the current owners... the phone (we had a landline at that time) almost had a meltdown from all the calls, it was ridiculous. When we were actually selling that house, I wish it would have gotten that much attention... We also get fliers in the mail about selling this house, which started about a month after we moved in... It's an older neighborhood with a lot of split level 70s houses with the original owner's still living in them.

When I was a kid my stepdad had a unique old car that just sat in the driveway. It needed work we couldn't afford but it was his dream car and he couldn't imagine parting with it. Every so often yes, someone would spot it while they were driving by and they would knock on the door and ask if he would sell it. He never did, it sat for just over 20 years until he had it towed when he divorced my mom. I don't particularly understand the appeal of sitting and watching something you love rust for a couple of decades and I would have sold it to one of those people. But what do I know.

No, but when we were living in Belgium, this was fairly common. Our garden was surrounded by 8’ walls, so people couldn’t really see into the yard. We brought our Jeep over and we were stopped several times by people asking about it when we were out and about. But Jeeps are sold in Belgium and aren’t that rare!
Others at NATO were convinced it was a scam, but the local gendarme said that it was because used cars were scarce at that time.

We've bought a classic car that way before. It was in the front garage, and DH would drive by slowly every so often, to see it just sitting there on its flat tires and under a dry rotted car cover. He finally stopped and asked about it and gave the old man his card and told him to call if he ever would sell it. The old man finally did call and let DH buy it. It was an old 1940-50 (I cant recall the exact year) something Woody, all original interior and exterior. It had been in this mans garage since the 60s or so. They had all the original paperwork and maintenance records in the glove box! Anyway, it's ours now and it's being restored. I cannot wait til it's done. I'll add a photo for funsies.

I get notes on the windshield of my older Subaru Forester all the time with a request to buy it. It happens when the car is in my own driveway as well as when I am parked in a public shopping center. The car has very low mileage for its age, but anyone looking at it as they drive by wouldn’t know about that. It happened with my last Forester too. One person approached me as I was returning to the car in the Costco parking lot. They were just about to leave a note. They said there were very few used Foresters being sold and their son really wanted one so they decided to start leaving notes every time they saw one while out and about.
I also got cards in the mail asking to buy my house. People would also leave notes at my front door saying they were interested in it. I have even started getting notes here in my new-to-me house. They are always hand written notes mentioning something they love about the exterior of the house. I think it is creepy. I think some of them are from realtors trying to get more homes in stock, but some mention wanting something in their child’s school district and a few had even mentioned the pool. I hope they learned of the pool being there from Google earth rather than climbing the gate.
I have also had realtors knocking on my door and saying they have a client who wants my model home in my neighborhood and had I considered selling. This would always increase when there was my same model that just sold in the neighborhood and the realtor’s client lost out during the bidding process but still wanted to buy the same floor plan.

I have never had that happen. I can’t imagine walking up to a stranger or knocking on their door and asking if they were interested in selling some random item that isn’t even listed as for sale, how unusual.

For the first 2 years we owned our last house people drive up all the time asking if we were thinking of selling it was bizzarre. Who does that randomly like that.
Then we redid the front garden and dug up the previous owners saint statue - ex threw it out - we never had anyone stop again. The last person to stop had been about an hour before we found it.
Odd coincidence, lol. I guess no one liked the new garden.
Wasn’t the statue though as I think Ex had a few people when I was looking where I bought now in 2022 because the market was so crazy & 2 houses on that street were for sale. So if you look at another house on the street that must make it ok to knock on all the neighbors doors & ask. 🤷♀️

We live on a street that everyone uses to cut across to the grocery store.
From time to time people do stop to inquire about things for sale. One Sunday PM, I guess DH was in the mood because someone stopped and asked to purchase his PU. To my amazement he sold it to them. I thought he would never give up his PU.

We had a handful of people ring our doorbell back when we had an older Accord to see if we wanted to sell. When our minivan was newer we would get letters from dealerships with trade-in offers.
So many texts, phone calls and mail offers for the house, but those were all from investors. There is a popular neighborhood nearby that gets a lot of personal offers for houses.

We've had inquiries about land in our area. In both cases it was not our land but I knew the owner wasn't interested in selling.

Like others have mentioned, we always get letters / postcards from real estate agents asking if we want to sell our house.
The only other time was years ago..... I had a rocker / glider chair that I bought when I had DD, to be used as my feeding chair. The glider mechanism eventually broke, so I had the chair sitting on the porch. Someone left a note on it one day, saying that if I ever wanted to sell it, she would love to buy it. I lost the card with her number on it, otherwise I would have just given it to her. I think it would have been really easy to fix.

My St Francis watched sternly over our yard for years, until he broke and couldn't be repaired. I think I'll go get another. The problem is I can't find another one with such a grim face and my husband doesn't approve of my religious stuff unless it looks potentially evil.

Years ago we used to occasionally have people going door to door, I wouldn't let them get their pitch out before saying no and closing the door. No flyers at the house because we get pur mail at the post office. No real estate pushing because we live in a small place with small turnover.
For many years now it's just the volunteer fire department, drops off a recyclable bag a week or two before the food drive. Then you place it on your step at a certain time for pick up.
