Do you have any plans for the total eclipse in April?
Are you in the path of totality?
What are schools in your area doing (esp if you’re in the path of totality)?
I’m in the path of totality and I have our eclipse glasses ready to go. We’ll be watching with some friends. Some local districts have cancelled school that day so students can enjoy the eclipse activities and because the number of people coming to the path of totality from out of town is expected to wreak havoc with traffic and other logistics.
DH (he’s a teacher) was hoping his district would follow suit and cancel, but they have declared there will be school and all students must remain inside all day with all windows and blinds closed 😔 No recess or outdoor PE.

Apparently your DH has an a$$ for administrative position.
It is a great learning experience.

We are coming to the DFW area for a long weekend and staying for the eclipse. Our hotel is having a roof party so we will do that and then come home Tuesday.
Amarillo will have a partial eclipse but no schools are canceling or anything.

We are close to the path of totality. We will all be working, but we have eclipse glasses so we can peek at it. I think we are in 95% range. I would not expect school to be cancelled and I am not surprised thst the kids arent allowed out. Can you imagine the uproar if little Johnny looks at the sun without glasses. There is no way for teachers to police that

I'm in the path of totality in DFW however, I will be in VA for the weekend! I did buy eclipse glasses to see it from up there but what a bummer to have to miss the event in Dallas.

I'm in the Dallas area & plan on watching. Our city is having an event that I'm interested in going to. I've already blocked my work calendar from noon-3 so I can have that time to eclipse watch! My son & I are very excited...my husband, not so much.
I still have my glasses from the 2017 eclipse so I'm all set there. I've also heard many school districts will be closing but I don't think ours has announced if they are closing. My son is in college so I'm out of the loop on our local schools.

I'm flying to TX the week before and staying with my sister. She's in the path of totality and we're going to watch it together. I saw the one in 2017 at a friend's house. I'm in GA and didn't have to travel far to see that one. I'm super excited to see it again!
What a missed educational experience for your DHs school district. That's sad that they're not taking advantage to teach the kids so much science and let them experience it- something they would never forget! We took our youngest out of school (she was a jr. in HS) for the last one so she could have that experience. I would do the same for any age kid honestly.

I'm in the path of totality NW of San Antonio in Boerne TX. I'm going to work from home that day. We have our glasses from the fall ring of fire eclipse. Schools are out in our district. I believe its because of the large number of people expected to come into our small town and the possible traffic issues and other concerns with large crowds. The emergency management office has been having trainings for months on all of the possible emergencies that could happen. I don't really know what kinds of emergencies they've been preparing for exactly but whatever they are, I'm guessing its better to be prepared and hope nothing happens than to not be prepared.

We’re not in the path of totality, but our plan is to take DH’s plane to a small airport in Vermont where he has some buddies and join them to watch the eclipse. That is, if the weather cooperates. It’s his birthday, and he’s super excited about it.

Some Pea’s eclipse plansI am the path of totality. Not sure if I am working or not, but that might determine where I end up trying to see it. Lots of Peas are traveling to see it. Hope you have a great viewing of it.

We are going to our cabin It’s in the path. My sisters are coming down We’re hoping to take our boat out. It probably will be too cold though. The weatherman said it’s a 5% chance that it won’t be cloudy here. I think most schools are out. Dismissal times would be in the middle of it. Some libraries are giving out glasses.

We are in a small town (20K) in the Texas Hill Country in path of totality very close to the center. So we have it for a long time with the best chance for no cloud cover in the country IIRC (watch there be a storm ). They expect 100,000 people, it is going to be a madhouse, our town had a brochure prepared last year for it and we are basically being warned to get our food and gas before people come into town. And if we decide to leave our house to be prepared for it to take HOURS for us to get back home. Businesses that won’t benefit from tourism are closing, including DHs rehab department. Those that anrent closing anre being told to prepare to spend the night. All schools are closed. DH and I are staying home and grilling. If there is a neighborhood party we’ll do it in the front. We are even trying to avoid leaving the house the entire weekend because our neighborhood access is off one of the main roads.

One thing they’re doing is setting up miniature outposts (@least the ambulances, not sure about other personnel) so they can get to different areas faster.

My son lives in the path of totality which is almost 5 hrs away from us. But since we would be killing two birds with one stone we are making a weekend out of it. We are going to an event at a nearby nature reserve. My glasses are ready!

We’re about 60 miles north of Austin so in the path of totality. We have our glasses and have no plans to leave the house for the days before and the day of the eclipse. It’s supposed to be crazy here. Hotels have been sold out for months. All the school districts in the area are closed. Cities have been having emergency planning meetings. It’s going to be nuts but I'm very excited about it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to try some close libraries and if they don’t have any, I’ll order from Amazon. Thanks again. It’s really exciting to be in the path of the total eclipse.

We live in Cedar Park, just outside of Austin, but we'll be going to a party on some property in Burnet. We weren't planning to attend, but one of dh's brother's (and his wife) are flying in from Colorado...so we felt compelled. Another brother and his family are flying to Mazatlán for the eclipse. If it were up to us, we'd step outside with our glasses on, then back inside.

We are in the 95% totality band. It is supposed to pass us right at school dismissal time if I remember correctly. Not sure what their plan to make pickup not be a nightmare. I don’t expect them to coordinate an event but I would love to get out a little early to not deal with the pickup line.

About 94% here. I suggested, and the social committee agreed, that we have a small event at work. It will incorporate our afternoon break and won’t be very long. They’re buying the glasses for everyone.

That is crazy that they won't let the kids experience this. I thought we were educators. We are in the path. Most schools in our county are closed for the day. We are open but we are dismissing 2 hours early. The school is providing glasses for everyone to take home. Our science teachers are preparing special lessons for that day.

I think Im in the 80-85%. My sister is in Columbus, OH, so if I really wanted to get closer, we could go out and visit, but DS has a golf match on the 8th, and honestly, I just don't get all excited about these type of events anymore bc weather always takes it out for me...

I'm in Indiana and in the path of totality. I'll be working but should be able to step outside and check it out. A couple of the local school districts have said that if they have any leftover snow days they'll close for the day. It was a pretty mild winter so I think they are planning on doing that. There are lots of events planned around here. Nearly every town and large outdoor venue is planning something.

All students get glasses and at least middle and high school will be outside unless their parent wants them kept indoors. Good times lol
