Yep, me too! But I realized by achieving my "two star" rating that I have now posted WAY more in a week than I ever did in over 10 years of almost daily lurking on the old board! Yay me! I do like the like button and have been using it, kind of a fb carryover. Lurkers, your voices need to be heard! I didn't even notice the stars. Alright lurkers, get to threads early so you don't feel like you are repeating.

Another long, long time lurker. I too struggle with saying something when it seems like everything has already been said. But I aim to try more here - thanks for starting this thread!

The "not wanting to just repeat the same thoughts" is what has kept me lurking for years. I appreciate the like button! And sometimes, I don't post because I have too much to say, and I'm usually peaing on my phone, and it's just too much of a pain to type it all out. It's not because I'm shy, because I'm quite the opposite. Although, as I'm getting older, I keep more of my thoughts to myself in general.

Totally agree! I want to participate more too, but often find myself just sitting here nodding because I agree with something that's already been said. And, yes, I do find I am shy IRL, especially as the group gets larger. If it's small, I'm OK, but bigger isn't better for me. That!

It's so nice to see everyone posting! I hope the regulars/old timers (no offense) don't get tired of us.
Another pea had started lurker threads last week and I have not seen a post from her here, I hope she shows up.

2peasrefugees.boards.net/user/135I found her! Fruitysuet. I hope she makes it here. I nominate her to start weekly lurker threads. The ones she started were good ones and I'm not sure I'd be too reliable to get it going. (I'm afraid to do a callout thread to get her in here lol).

As long as you aren't an excessive and obsessive 'right fighter" I'm good.

I was just thinking about this! I was a member for 12 years and only started posting occasionally around my tenth year - only 848 posts. Like others, being in a different time zone was the main reason, but I read the boards daily and when they shut down realised how much I was going to miss them. So now that I have found this board I'm going to make a better effort to participate more! Corinne

Like many of you upthread, I'm just giving my fingers (and my lurker's psyche) some exercise by posting on this thread, even though I don't have anything new to say. IRL, I'm not shy, but I do hold back until I feel comfortable. Then, if I feel I can contribute to a discussion, I do try to add my $0.02. Although I'm new here (I lurked on the old site for a couple years but never registered), I know it will get easier if I post to "unthreatening" topics, like this one, at first, before getting into the more controversial areas. So I encourage the rest of you lurkers to jump in and get your feet wet!

I'm actually quite loud, outspoken, and usually crass, so shyness definitely isn't the problem! I think I'm just so tired from nonstop chitchat IRL that I just love to read everyone's posts without sharing input. Lots of comments in my head, though, so I should let my fingers start sharing those thoughts --haha!

Sort of - I've posted more on this board in a week or so than I did in four years on the other board. I also feel a lot of what I would say on threads has more often than not already been said. I am trying hard to participate more

I think fruitysuet is also in the UK, so she has the same timezone problem as me. We're ahead of the USA, but I think just being in a different time means that when you are all 'here' chatting we are not, so we miss the flow. I am definitely going to participate more now though, losing 2peas made me realise how much I want a forum to be a part of. I am not that quiet in real life, but I do tend to observe things rather than try and be at the centre.

I know what you mean - I have to spend a lot of time at work being sociable and interacting with people, so when I get home I just want to hide!

I have really been trying to post daily and not just lurk. I tend to avoid posting in the controversial threads. I think I have a fear of making someone mad or having the grammar police come after me. I'm a little shy at first in real life, but not so much once I get going. I think we need a PLC badge!

I am agreeing with so many different people.. (are we still using peaple???) I am not shy but I work nites in the US... so not a time zone issue but sleep schefule... I use ellipsis and know peas hate that... I don't punctuate or spell... I don't care about grammar n correct preposition usage... i love shorthand versions of text speak... I know I will be hand slapped for it... its what happened before and I will go silent n simply read again... I am trying to post more but feel weird going 2or3 pages back n bumping an "old" post but this board moves super fast... hard to keep up... anyway that's why I lurk more...

CanI just say DITTO to everything that was said, lol A lurker on the old boards for years. I used to post on the scrapping board rarely, mainly to get information. Then I ventured over to the "wild side" and was just fascinated with all the stories and information I learned. But rarely ever posted anything. Maybe just to offer congrats to someone or hugs. Certainly hope to become more of a participant on this board.

I will chime in with a 'yep', I mostly lurk as it's all been said before, and as usual, I'm late to the game with nothing new to say! I am definitely quiet IRL and prefer smaller groups of ppl/being comfortable with the group before opening my mouth … but trying to post more

I was a big lurker on the old board, I did post but not often and most of them were on the Big Brother threads.
I'm not a shy person "in real life", but I'm not a jump in person either. I guess with the board being new I just decided to go for it and well, here I am, almost 150 posts! The more I do it, the easier it gets. Heck I've even started some.

I do. I was trying to reply to 10 threads a day, but I don't feel comfortable just repeating what everyone else says. Someone has usually expressed my thoughts more eloquently. EXACTLY! I think why agree with something if 20+ people already did - especially now we have the like button! I will try! & a PLC sounds like a cute idea!

LTL (long time lurker) coming out of lurkdom. I'm not shy IRL. I don't want to be a 'yeah, what she (or possibly even he) said' poster and while I don't shy away from an argument IRL I'm a little gun shy about one here.

I didn't really post on the old site, trying to change that for this new site. So far so good! I'm liking receiving the Updated Thread notifications each morning from ProBoards, gives that positive feedback that encourages more posting.

Hi it's great to see more people posting on the boards. I get what pretty well most have already said. I'm in the UK and think a lot of lurking had to do with coming into a conversation late too. I am loving the like button here (perhaps a little too much). I wouldn't say that I am shy as much as not really much of a one for chitter chatter. Being back at work after 15 years at home has helped me become a bit more chatty though.

I'm joining the PLC. I am not shy IRL, and I honestly don't consider myself shy here either, it's just easier to lurk. I don't always have the time to craft a response. Also, I hesitate to get involved with some of the more drama filled or a controversial threads because when I feel slammed, it boils over into my real life and I can be crabby over something that some silly pea said. It's just not always worth it.

On the old board, I was over 7K posts over 10 years. Now I feel like I only want to post when I have something relevant to add to the thread, otherwise I just read and move on. The like function on this board is so great!

I nominated you, earlier in this thread, to start the PLC (weekly?) threads. Would you be up for it? I feel like I'm pushing it off on you. You did the other threads flawlessly. It's completely up to you but I would love to have you doing these.

I agree with just about all of you! It seems easier for me to unlurk & respond to specific questions. So - anyone want to share the highlight of their day so far? Mine has been watching my son spending hours diving for stuff in the pool. He hasn't wanted to put his head under to swim until yesterday (he just decided he was ready & it was time), so I'm proud of him & glad for the easy way to entertain him. Hey Yoki I saw your thread about this topic getting lost in this thread. Sorry about that. I had to go do 4th of July stuff or I would have posted. I love that your son is getting brave, that's awesome. He'll be doing backflips before you know it and keeping you on your toes worrying about him. My highlight wasn't until later. Just sitting with my husband enjoying the fireworks. Heading over to your thread now.

Don't want to sound like a broken record, but I too agree with what everyone's been saying. So far this board seems less intimidating, so I have been posting more than I ever did at the old site. However, I don't want to post just for the sake of posting.
I agree that a PLC badge is a great idea!!
