I think I want to buy a go pro for a Christmas gift but just realized there is more than one. Do any peas know how many different ones there are & what are the differences? Also, if you have one, what do you use it for? Do you love it? TIA!

We musty returned on=--we bought it to take snorkeling and water shots on our vacation and it overheated in the case and shut down. I'll see if I can find out which one it was, I know it was the newer generation and we bought it from the Microsoft store---- very disappointed.

I looked into getting one for DH (he'd use it for airsoft games and other adventures) and I wanted him to use it on our Disney trip. I was going to get him either the Hero 3 in black or silver. The Hero 4 just came out so the Hero 3 is still a good way to save some money on them. From what I was able to figure out, there are 3 levels of camera - each with different specs. The white is the most basic with the silver being the mid level and black being the best. Go Pro has a good site that will compare them for you. I'm also planning on getting a monopod to use with it, and DH will want a head mount. I think they can be a fun toy and I can see us using it enough to warrant splurging. Here are a couple threads that might help... Disney Video - this is the one that pushed me over the edge for wanting one. Go Pro Discussion

Yay, another GoPro thread! (I am obviously an enthusiast. ) I have the Hero 3+ black. The "+" really just means that it's wifi equipped. If I were going to buy one today, I would go with either the 4 Black or, if that weren't in the cards financially, I'd probably get the 4 Silver over the 3 or 3+ black. While the wide angle of view gives you a good chance of capturing the footage you want even without having a preview screen… I would take the preview screen, now that it's an option. Yes, I can rig up my GoPro to my phone to get a preview of my shot, but I have only done that in testing. It's too much of a pain when I'm actually shooting. And I shoot the most when I am on vacation and don't want to be paying international wifi charges on my phone. Having said that though, I've shot all my videos without the preview, and still think they turned out pretty well. My videos are linked in the threads linked above.
