My dog is on the "scared to death of fireworks" list. Also guns (we live near an Army base), thunder, and anything else that sounds similar. When there's the tiniest of rumbles of thunder she's slinking into a dark corner. One shot from the Army base and she's under the piano bench.
Yet -- I've just vacuumed the living room. The vacuum is loud. But, she's not scared. She moves away from it but she doesn't run, she stands just out of reach and watches. If she's out of my sight when I start vacuuming she comes from wherever she was and watches me, almost like she's coming to see if I'm okay. lol
But I think it's odd that she runs and hides at the slightest thunder-like sound, ones that we can hardly hear, but stands around looking when the big bad vacuum cleaner (that used to make my dd cry) is on.
Anyone else have an odd dog? lol

Mine was the same. When she opened the door to the bathroom and hid under the sink, we knew a thunderstorm was coming. She wouldn't bat an eyelid when we vacuumed, in fact, she didn't even blink if we vacuumed her.

Seamus is afraid of pinwheels. Like the ones my neighbors put in their front yard. While I'm afraid of it because it's tacky, he's afraid because it's metallic and spinny. He's also afraid of balloons. Mylar balloons specifically.

My dog is afraid of the broom. Every time I get it out she trots off with her tail between her legs. She is also afraid of the screen door on our slider, it's come off the track a few times and came crashing down by her. Now she stands back while I open it, and once she sees it's not going to fall off she'll run out the door. Dogs are so silly

Our dog Lucy couldn't care less about thunder, fireworks etc... But OM gosh, in the summer time when the hot air balloon guy starts his rides and goes over the house, she freaks out! Planes, helicopters etc... Not a blink, but the hot air balloon goes over and she is barking and running scared to hide under something.

Fireworks, thunder, guns and the ceiling fan. If there's thunder and lightning and the power starts to flicker he's off to hide.

My beagle is afraid of other dogs but only when they are on the other side of our fence. If someone walks their dog behind our house he will bark and come running in the house to hide. He isn't scared of dogs when we walk him through the neighborhood though. He is also scared of our cat. She will sit by his dog door and he will whine and bark at her but she won't move. He probably is twenty pounds heavier than the cat but she is definitely the one in charge.

heat registers. I have a two story house and the ones in the floor upstairs she walks around them slowly whilst keeping one eye on the register. I've lived here 6 years, and she's 6 years old...I have no clue what makes her afraid of them. She won't go near storm drains either.

Not only is our dog scared of thunder and fireworks, any little clicking noise will send her running. If I'm chopping veggies on a cutting board, she disappears. Stacking plates and one accidentally bangs another one, she's out of there.
She hates flashlights, too.

Lucy is 'concerned' about thunder and fireworks, but not frightened. She is, however, afraid of baby gates. I just have to prop mine in the doorway, and she stays clear. She doesn't want to bump it and make it fall. It will make a crashing noise, and could possible land on her. She is also afraid of helium balloons. If I have one in the house, she trots around and barks at it. She was not afraid of my Hoover vacuum, but she is very wary, and stays clear of the Kirby. She must know by the sound that the Kirby has superior sucking power and could suck her up.

My dog is terrified of stink bugs, among other things. This is a good thing. Do you know what happens when a dog eats a stink bug? They're not poisonous but the dog will throw up, then foam at the mouth. Let me tell you we all about had heart failure the one time my dog ate one. ugh.

My dog is afraid of his food & water bowls. But only when I take them out of the stand. They're stainless steel so they make noise & are shiny. Last week I bought a new stand with new bowls & he wouldn't eat out of the new bowl for 3 days. He only drank water out of the water bowl by stretching his neck as far as it would stretch. He's crazy!! DH said I should take it back but I said NO!!!! This time I was determined to win the battle of wills!!!
But seriously! What's UP with that fear? He runs out of the room when I pick the bowls up out of the stand to wash them. He'll stand at the top of the stairs & look down at me while I wash them. GEEZ!!

I have a Rottweiler that is afraid of the broom. He knocked it over a couple of months ago and it hit him, so now he will not walk past it. He will stand there and whimper, but will not walk past the broom. My husband just informed me that he is also afraid of the lawn mower.

My one dog is scared of the text message notification sound, or any sound similar for that matter. I try to remember to have our techie toys on vibrate or mute, the poor thing hears one swoosh or ding from the iPad and he's pacing in terror. Weird.

My big 120 lb chocolate lab is scared of bugs. And water. WHAT? Water? My lab never met a body of water he didn't want to get into (unless it's bathwater). Carla, how do you explain that fear?

Our little chihuahua min pin doesn't care about thunder or fireworks, but the broom, and the sprinklers are terrifying. He won't even go near the grass until the water is dry after the sprinklers were on if he sees them running.

He's SO afraid of water that you should see him trying to go outside when it's so much as sprinkling rain. First he gives whoever is letting him out a dirty look, then he stands on our covered patio and teeters trying to convince himself to step off. He looks like a 6 year old jumping off a high dive for the first time. It requires a LOT of encouragement from us each and every time.
Forget even trying to get him near an actual body of water.

The dog we had when I was growing up was afraid of tape. The instant he realized that you had tape anywhere near him, he would run off and hide.
Not a dog story but.... When we first brought DD home as a baby, our 2 cats were afraid of her. They would walk the perimeter of the room as they were passing through it rather than get any where near her. That lasted about 4 months.

what's funny with my oldest Duke, he goes hunting with DH just fine. But the fireworks last night made him a hot mess. I was scratchin my head. He even had benedryl and peanut butter and treats in his Kong.Poor guy. Pia didn't know what the heck they were as this was her first 4th of July. Duke is also afraid of getting off the step in the pool. He's a lab supposed to love water. He does but it can't go over his back. Pia on the other hands swims and swims. She was in the pool with us yesterday. Duke was but only on the steps.

Mr. Biscuit is scared of loud noises, fireworks, neighbors shooting guns, loud vehicle noise. He is also scared of either the sound or smell of things frying, He will run to the door and sit hoping to get out.

Benny has never been afraid of fireworks until this year. But his brother Jack died a couple of months ago and this was his first 4th of July without him in 12 years - so I imagine that had something to do with it.
I felt bad as there wasn't anything I could really do about.
He also doesn't like the vacuum, but neither of them were a fan of that!

One of my dogs is afraid of aluminum foil. He's also afraid of storms, so maybe it sounds like thunder to him?
Whevenver I get it out, he runs away. LOL!
