So I got this response from a job I applied for on Indeed.com. The job is still on the site and has been for 30 days. _______ Hello, I hope all is well. My name is - I'm the staffing manager here at XXXX. I've reviewed your experience, and you may be a good fit for our full time administrative staff. Everything looks good, however I will need you to send me your resume in linear-executive format (company requirement for new hires). Please re-send me your resume in the correct format, along with the first date you can begin so we can move forward.
If you are unfamiliar with a linear-executive format, I'd recommend finding a template, or a quick resume builder online (I know ExecutiveFormats.com or ResumeEdge should support the format).
Please email me if you have any questions.
XXXX ________
This has my spidey sense up. She did not leave a phone number. I've never heard of this before. I can't find anything on this kind of resume format except for the sites she noted above and both of them CHARGE for this template. One is only $2.95 but if you don't cancel within three days they charge $19.99 per month.
Scam? Anyone ever heard of having to submit a resume in a particular format? Seems odd.

That would really make me question it as well. What happens when you email as the letter states?

I haven't emailed her back yet. Not sure what to ask. I don't want to offend her if this is legit.

Never, ever, ever heard of this and I got hired through a temp agency to be the VP's assistant with a very ad hoc resume.
Spidey sense is definitely on high alert.

I would assume they want to compare all applicants easily and insisting on all resumes being in the same format allows them to do that. It could also be to allow for easier scanning or entering into a database.
I would search for a free template or "how to instructions" for writing a linear-executive resume or get a "how to book" at the library instead of buying a template. Linear is probably the most common resume type and generally used by someone with uninterrupted work in the same field. Sequential is usually organized by the skills you are selling to an employer, but there may be breaks in your work history that you don't want to highlight.

I have rec'd a few strange responses from Indeed that I know def. spam. If you hover over her email address or hit respond is it legit or spam-ish looking? I would be weary about it too.
I google searched "Indeed job scam response email" and you can see a number of complaints from false emails and interviews to people getting their resume posted on the internet without their permission. I always check the jobs on Indeed and didn't realize that so many of their jobs were spam.

As I'm looking more into the company the only known location is out of state and the her email is one letter off from the actual company.... (tsk tsk)

That's weird and I have to wonder if it isn't just a fishin' scam for the resume company.
What format was your resume that you sent them in? Personally I would just send them a linear one and be done with it. No reason to pay for the template. The link Freebird found has quite a few examples and was the first one that popped up with Google.
I suspect if they are legit they are looking for breaks in working and/or trying to track how much experience and how long you have been at each job. Possibly they are looking for people who hop jobs a lot and hide it in a functional resume. So it's not uncommon but a bit odd.

Yeah, I think I'll use the example Freebird gave, thanks Freebird. They already have my resume anyway apparently, I guess it's just classical format. I did think it might be a scam so I didn't want to pay those resume companies she mentioned. Jazz I sent you a peamail with the name of the company, curious if it's the same company or different. That's weird we got the same exact mail. The email address appears legit.

Wow I got the same exact email verbatim today but it was from Kathryn for the company BrandVia as well...but it said the position was in DC. Same exact situation led me here...trying to figure out how to create a Linear-Executive resume template. Upon finding this message board I would have to say we were definitely both scammed

I have a scrapbooking friend who works at or with the Pentagon and I would assume that they would have specific requirements with their resumes if any. I will drop her a note and get her opinion on this too if you don't mind, ok?

I received this exact same email around 3:30pm today. It was from BrandVia also and the ladys name was also Kathryn. I was also looking for a website that showed me how to do this kind of format but the ones that she stated in the email all charged a ridiculous price which kind of made me wonder a little. I'm glad that I came across this before I replied.

I just looked at our health authority and they do not require such a format for any kind of kind. They are a major employer in the province.
Our provincial government doesn't require it either.
My friend in the US who I said I would ask above thought it was fishy as well.

I'm not sure what is going on, but I think it's strange that all the "peas" that replied to say they also received the email are all new members today. It could be they were googling the email and it led them here, or...?

It's the fourth hit when you type in "linear-executive format" on Google.

I've been looking for a job for the last 6 months, put my resume out through a company that posts it far and wide for a fee, and I've been an email target for scammers ever since. I receive 50 - 350 emails each day. I've stopped trying to unsubscribe, because that results in more emails. I block them instead.
It is really disheartening that scammers target people who are clearly down and out, scraping for a job.
I'm trying to get a job after 18 years of being a SAHM, my DH is still our breadwinner, so am not desperate. Just ready to rejoin the workforce.
Still, it is horrible that these predators target people who can not afford to be scammed. I hope there is a special circle of hell, just for them.

I had found it from googling line-executive resume format and this thread was one of the top results. I was hoping to find a template for the resume format, and did not even suspect it being a scam for the resume builder website. BUT after reading the initial post, which was verbatim the email I had received, I realized something was up and created an account, thus am a new username, to share my thoughts that this is most definitely a scam.
