Because I hate them with a passion. I mean HATE them. My bill keeps going up, but I keep losing channels. I hate their pricing system – I think it's manipulative and misleading. They offer you one price, but it's always a special promotion, and when that promotion expires, your bill jumps up 60 bucks. And when you call to complain, they offer you some other special "promotion." They keep making me get extra little things to make my service work, even though I didn't need these extra little things before…their customer service SUCKS, they always want to sell me things I don't want, my service goes out all of the time and when I call for help, the people have no idea what to do...it's almost comical. But really, it just makes me want to kill someone.
I have a TiVo and I love my TiVo – so I can't use U-verse, which is my only other option. I enjoy having cable – I like watching HGTV and the Food Network and Bravo, etc. so I'm stuck.
I just feel like if all the people that actually hated cable companies banded together, they might actually have to make some changes. But instead, because they are our only option, they get to hold us hostage.
I know this is a completely insane, nonsensical post…but I hate them THAT much.

Not at our house. We used to have them and they had this system (for lack of a better word) where if the TV was on for a certain number of hours without switching channels, it would automatically switch to another channel...something about freeing up bandwidth on popular channels or some BS like that. The problem is that I often leave the TV on as background noise and I want it on one particular channel, especially at night when DH was working overnights. I know which channel i sleep well to and that doesnt invade my dreams. I routinely woke up to some ridiculous channel that I never watched and that gave me crazy dreams.

No I don't I am sorry. I hate them too and we are pretty much at their mercy. Well, I only say that because if not for DH I would totally get rid of them altogether. He needs his sports channels. I do enjoy on demand and the DVR but I hate their billing setup and the fact taht I pay $100 a month for cable. Makes me literally insane that I spend more for cable than I do for my electric bill or my phone bill. I also hate that at least once a week I have to reset it because I can't get the on demand to work.
And yes I hate that they have me hostage as well. I hate that there are no options here.

Nope, we hate them here as well. When we called to sign up (running out of options, we tried DSL, it sucked) they had a deal where we could get TV w/ DVR, internet, and phone for like $113 incl taxes. Great, I said, sign me up! They called back a few days later and said "wait, we don't offer phone service in area so your bill will now be $140+" WTF, so now I get fewer services for more money, how does that make sense I tried to get them to bill me for the phone and just not install it, nope, can't do that because they can't assign me a phone number. I spent 3 hours on the phone arguing with various people. The best deal I could get was $130+, ridiculous. Not to mention the service kinda sucks, our tv box will just randomly shut down and reboot. The internet is constantly dropping, even just for a few seconds, just long enough to piss you off when you're streaming. Unfortunately they're our only option other than satellite w/ DSL

Hate them-with the fire of a thousand suns.
So, even though there were some shows and channels we knew we'd miss, we ditched cable a couple of years ago. We have survived just fine. And along with watching less television, we've found some other great shows we never would have if we'd stayed with TW. And we have saved tons of money. We will never go back

On the plus side, I think you just answered why MY cable box does that! (I have a different company.) Mine always turns to C-SPAN2, and since I'd have left it on either Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, or Spike, that would sound about right as far as popular v. not popular. The only good thing I can say about Time Warner is that they accepted it when I went in and closed my mother's account after she died and never tried to bill me for extra equipment or anything.

Nope.
We dropped them for ATT Uverse and we're so much happier.
Why can't you do Uverse and use their DVR service instead of TiVo?

I wish we could switch to Uverse. It isn't offered in our zip code. One zip code over, it is.

I could have written your OP, subbing WOW for Time Warner. In fact, we just switched to TW, because WOW really pissed me off, plus we're saving close to $70/month. I know the current rates are only good for a year, but I'll take it while it lasts.

Sorry no, I hate them. Like a pp, my bill keeps going up and every time I call I am told that it was because I was part of a promotion that has ended. Only after spending forever on the phone and being transferred to customer retention do I get the same freaking deal I had. My internet it through them as well and we have to have a home phone that is only fodder for political calls and telemarketers because it's part of a bundle that makes the whole thing cheaper (ask me why I don't just disconnect the phone, no really, please do).
Now Time Warner is looking to merge with Comcast, and are awaiting state approval. I hear Comcast is just as bad or worse, so I'm not looking forward to this merger.

Can't stand them. They are manipulative, unhelpful, cost way too much... among other things. Dh used tw when he first moved for his job. He got rid of them after 6 months, right before the rest of us moved up here in July. We have direct tv, and have had them for about 3 years.

I don't love Time Warner, but it's our best option. Our bill went up $20 this year after a 2 year hold. I think it's time to call and let them know that we might switch to Direct TV. I like having everything through one bill. If we go with Direct TV then we have to have a phone bill. We started with Direct TV because at one time that is all that was offered here. They are all a scam, but I like my internet.

Mine would randomly change to something like BET or some network that had infomercials all night. I can't even tell you the number of dreams I had that involved a variety of As Seen On TV products all at the same time. It actually would even do it during the day or evening when I was watching it but just hadn't changed the channel. They wouldn't give me a straight answer, but I found tons of reports of it (and some answers) online. The general thinking was that they did it to boost up the number of "viewers" of less popular channels so that they could use it to negotiate their contracts.

I guess I am kind of the exception. I don't love Time Warner but I don't hate them either. Each time a promotion ends, I call and I keep saying "Retention" until I get to talk to a person. They always knock some money off again and I am ok for another year or so. I have cable and internet through them. I mostly work from home and having stable, working, internet is VERY important. My internet almost never goes out. What is frustrating though is when it does go out, I think I am the only person in the neighborhood with Time Warner Cable Internet that is online during the day because they sometimes they don't show any other issues and want to set up an appointment to come to my house. Last time this happened, I told them it was not at my house but they insisted on setting up an appointment so I did. About 6pm, my cable TV went out. I stepped outside and saw the truck down the street. I went and talked to the guy and he said "I wish they would have told me there was an issue here before I was on my way home". I told him that I called and reported it about 3-4 hours earlier but they didn't believe it wasn't at my house. Anyway, this has only happened maybe twice in 8 years, so I really can't complain. I hear of way more issues with Uverse in the neighborhood. So, if it isn't broken, I am not going to try to fix it.
As for Comcast, I used to be Comcast. A while back, Comcast took over a bunch of Time Warner and Time Waner took over a bunch of Comcast. Comcast was also AT&T. So, I have not changed internet services in many years but my internet service has changed multiple times during that time frame due to companies buying other companies (or parts of a company).
I REALLY wish that Time Warner would pick up NHL Network.
***ETA I also have not had the issue that BF has had with it changing channels. How long does it have to be one for that to happen?

I REALLY wish that Time Warner would pick up NHL Network. We have the option of a sports package that includes NHL Network, for $8.99/month, but there's little else we would watch. I wish we could get just NHL, for less.

I wish we could get just NHL, for less. It's not an option at all with my Time Warner. I have a new pamphlet with all channels available and it isn't listed. This is a new list because they made some channel changes recently. I can get NHL Center Ice but not NHL Network. I can't give up cable (is Uverse/Dish/Direct TV/or Something) We don't watch a lot of network TV and the shows you can get on Netflix, Hula, etc. are not the shows we watch.

It's too exhausting to list all the damn problems with their service. I've only had them for 5 months and they're worse than the service in Germany. Way worse. And the only other option in my area is rated even lower. They're now going all digital and any TV that is directly hooked up to the wall needs a box. Wonderful. I have to order a few, hope I don't have to pay and then connect them myself. I really hate Time Warner. One thing you can depend on is that their service will shut down every month..one day, two days, for however long it takes them to accumulate irate customer calls. They suck.

I have loved & had them ever since they started as QUBE. they are local to us Back then we were thrilled to have a huge box & a huge long wire You are correct about their bills keep going much higher & higher & our income kept dropping so we had t o switch to WOW this year. bills are almost half...you can make anything as a package. they don't have packages. it is what combos of services you want . you make the package.
