What's your favorite smoothie "recipe"? Kids are on a kick and trying to come up with different kinds.

I use one cup of Kefer probiotic liquid yogurt by Lifeway with frozen fruit (bananas and assorted berries). Love it. No ice so it's not watered down.

Take ripe bananas, slice, lay out on a cooke sheet lined with parchment. Freeze. Store.
Then when you want to make a "smoothie," use milk, frozen bananas, and a teaspoon or so of fat-free, sugar-free instant vanilla (or chocolate) pudding mix.
Works good with other fruit, too. I still often throw in some ice cubes because I like extra cold drinks.

OJ Raspberries Strawberries Juice from half of a lime Plain Greek yogurt Ice, if the fruit isn't frozen
Blend to combine. This is my favorite dessert type smoothie. I make green smoothies most days for breakfast but I know that may be a bit more difficult for a kid to drink!

What do you put in your green smoothie?

What do you put in your green smoothie? I make every smoothie green by putting in frozen baby spinach leaves. I keep the bag in the freezer, and throw in a handful. You truly never taste the spinach. I also keep ripe bananas broken in half in freezer bags in the freezer too and use those instead of ice. Love it.

*Hijack here* This is what I love about this place. I popped online to look for some smoothie recipes and took a detour here and found this thread. It seems that almost every time I have a question about something, someone here posts about the same thing. It's almost like you all can read my mind *Hijack over* The only smoothie I make well is plain greek yogurt, frozen mixed berries, a fresh banana and a splash of milk. I love it, but I'm getting tired of it. I am heading to Costco tomorrow, so I am going to try some of the combinations you all are suggesting.

I got a nutri ninja last month for my bday and it has changed my smoothies for the better! No more clumps of stuff at the bottom.
Right now one of my favorites is almond milk, strawberries and some yogurt. (Activia because I'm trying to work on some bowel troubles lately.)
For my green smoothies, I bought a ton of kale and spinach and I blended it, poured it into ice cube trays and froze them. I popped them into a Ziploc freezer bag and I put a few into my smoothies. I also have blended up carrots this way, too. I like kale, a dash of honey and some mango. I usually use almond milk with my smoothies.
I have had great luck with cherries, and if I'm craving some chocolate I put a bit of cocoa powder in with the cherries and almond milk.
If I'm looking to really fill up, I blend some oatmeal into the smoothie as well.
I have been trying to get creative with the smoothies, and trying to keep them low cal and nutrient rich as possible.

I've been making one with banana, blueberries, kale, chia seed, ground flaxseed, unsweetened almond milk and a spoonful of peanut butter powder. I sometimes add ice or use frozen banana.

Does anyone have a good recipe that includes chocolate protein powder without peanut butter as one of the ingredients? I got my son some from Sam's club but the chocolate taste is soooo rich. Just adding 8 oz of water is too much. I found one that had bananas and chocolate chips. He said it tasted good. The recipes can be fattening. He needs to gain weight and the doctor recommended he have at least 2 a day.

I make one with coconut "beverage" (the coconut version of almond milk), water, Greek yogurt, kale, romaine lettuce, honey and a scoop of chocolate peanut butter powder. I love it, but my husband is horrified by it.

My favorite is one banana (room temp), 3 ice cubes and 1 cup Greek non-fat Vanilla yogurt. To jazz it up, I sometimes add a teaspoon of Hershey's cocoa or a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter (or both!). You can switch the ice out with frozen strawberries or cherries.

Unsweetened almond milk, frozen banana, plain greek yogurt is the base. I've added all different kinds of berries to it. Love adding pineapple, it's my favorite. I've also added spinach (usually fresh) when I have it. Never taste it.

My fave is a Jamie Oliver recipe. One glass of orange juice (I use juice from a carton), one carrot, one inch sq of ginger, splash of lime juice (usually from a bottle), and a handful of frozen mango chunks. This is absolutely delicious.

No need for all of the steps listed above. I have a bag in my freezer and I add to it as my bananas get too ripe on the counter. They don't stick together in the bag.

I love the idea of freezing the kale or spinach this way. I am picky about the freshness of greens and this would reduce the amount of spinach we throw away because it is old.

I buy my spinach already frozen as it is cheaper and comes in portion size lumps. I have a Vitamix and it blitzes everything.
