Make sure the doctor forwards all you records to your doctor back home so he has them when you go in. I'm sure everything will be fine. (((Hugs)))

Muscle wasting or muscles releasing chemicals after injury? I wonder if they are the same chemicals? I say try not to worry until you can see someone who really can interpret. ER docs are generalists not specialists. And some like to deliver guesses like they know what they are talking about.

I thought the ER doc was thinking about rhabdomyolysis.

So discouraged. Had a good or at least better day or so but yesterday the cramps started threatening again. I am trembly and twitchy all over and emotionally a mess. I had such a bad night I though we might have to go to the ER again. Sat in hot tub before bed, took a 5 mg Valium prescribed for muscle relaxer and woke up 2 hours later with cramps in feet. Got up and walked and applied heat and still no relief. Finally took a Xanax about 3:00 am and packed my feet in a heating pad and rice wrap and went off to sleep. I am so dreading the plane ride tomorrow night. 7 hours first leg, 2 1/2 the next.
How did this happen to me? I arrived here 8 days ago feeling fine? I am so confused and upset. Needed to vent. Trying to put on a brave face for my daughter and DH.

I'm sorry you're feeling bad again. Did your doctor ever return your call? Did you make sure the ER forwarded your test results? Did the ER doctor say it would be safe for you to fly?

The ER doc knew I had to fly and didn't say not to. I'm trying to get the records sent to my doc. the doc covering for mine sent a scrip for flexeril and I have an appointment Wednesday. We get in on Monday afternoon and that was the earliest they had.

Something I read back when I was scared to death of ALS too....from this site: www.aboutbfs.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=200What is the difference between "perceived" weakness and "clinical" weakness? A tell tale sign of ALS is clinical weakness. This is REAL weakness that is permanent and continually progressive. It is caused by dying (or already dead) muscle tissue and/or dead or disconnected nerve endings between the brain and muscles. Once this happens, you lose control over that muscle PERMANENTLY, which leads to dropping things, the inability to unscrew lids off of jars, the inability to hold your coffee cup or even raise your fork to your face when eating. When it’s in the legs or feet, falling down or the inability to stand or get up from a chair is common, not being able to stand on your toes or walk on your heels because the muscles are dead. When this clinical weakness is associated with ALS, it migrates onward from that point with no looking back. There are no good days or bad days, meaning, you won't lose control of your hand one day and regain control of it the next. Once muscles and nerves have died, they are dead and can't be brought back to life. Fatigue and "perceived" weakness is common with BFS and can cause weak or rubbery legs, difficulty raising an arm or leg into the air one day, but not the next day, a drained feeling with no energy and even actual "weak" feelings where your arm just feels like lead and you have to rest it constantly. The difference between these kinds of BFS weaknesses from ALS weakness is that BFS weakness (which again isn't really true weakness at all) will get better in a couple of days, where ALS weakness is continually progressive and NEVER looks back. A neuro can tell a case or clinical weakness associated with ALS the minute an ALS patient walks through the door. By the time you notice the weakness and/or twitches associated with ALS (enough to warrant making a doctor's appointment), you would already be a few months into the disease and a good clinical exam will find problems you weren't even aware of. BFS "weakness" on the other hand, is pretty much only fatigue and although you may "feel" weak or drained-out, if push comes to shove and you put aside the pain, fatigue, stress or whatever else you have, you still have your real strength. I mean if a car was coming at you and you had to jump out of the way, you still could, where an ALS patient couldn't move at all." I hope this helps you relax a little. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

Lily, thanks so much for the great article. That helped a lot. And thanks everyone who cares!
We just landed at the airport about an hour ago. I had been doing a little better but night before last was pretty rough. Woke up at 5:00 with shin trying to cramp and got really worried again. Did okay all dAy yesterday until about 4 hours before our flight. Both calves and hammys got real tight and had to have DH pull car over so I could get out and walk it off. I was freaked out that I would have one on the plane when they were saying you could not stand up because seatbelt sign was on and some air marshal would taze me!
But I took muscle relaxer and tried to chill and was okay. Got up and walked a lot. We stopped by the ER and got my labs to take to my doc Wednesday. My CPK level was 3400! Normal is under 250. But it seems as though an injured muscle can spike it and the cramp was severe enough to leave me almost unable to walk for 4 days so I'm hoping that was the spike. But we'll see.
Thank you again for caring! There's nothing like the Peas when you have a crisis!

There's nothing like the Peas when you have a crisis! {{{Big big hugs to you!}}} I'm a widow and boy, do I understand the panic attacks that can come when you try to think about the future and you have people who are dependent on you. I am overjoyed that your plane trips were not horrific and that you arrived home safely. That was a big accomplishment. You deserve to feel good that you made it through as well as you did. I'm so glad there were people here when you needed someone to listen. There's no way you could have been prepared for this sudden onset of pain, and it's absolutely no wonder why your mind went to the places it did. Good for you for going to the ER and checking for blood clots! That was incredibly responsible of you. Here's hoping the worst is behind you now and that there is no repeat ever again of such debilitating cramps.

Thanks. Made it home totally exhausted and slept 3 hours in the recliner. Got up, took a muscle relaxer and went to bed. Woke up 2 hours later with cramps in both feet! Spent the rest of the night dozing and cramping. Somebody please shoot me. Seriously though, I am very discouraged and feeling pretty hopeless. Tried to get in to see my doc before my appointment tomorrow and she had no openings. Asked for a stronger muscle relaxer and she said no, have to see you first. I get it, but I may end up I the ER again tonight if this continues. I'm drinking water like a fish, trying to stretch, using heating pad, taking calcium/magnesium. Just sent DH to get some tonic water. At this point I'm ready to try eye of newt or a poultice of powdered chicken feet! Desperate for relief! Once again I thank the peas for listening, caring and advice.

I wonder if your anxiety about the pain (and who wouldn't be anxious) is causing some of this??? I'm going to bet you pulled a muscle really really bad and that's why your CPK level is so high. Take the muscle relaxer as often as it says you can....

I have definitely been/am anxious. I'm taking the muscle relaxers regularly. But the cramps are waking me out of a sound sleep so I don't think it's just anxiety. Last night I went to bed feeling very calm, took the muscle relaxer, fell fast asleep them BAM wake up with cramps in both feet. Praying and hoping for some answers tomorrow.
