How often does the average person bathe?
Brush their teeth?
I've always showered daily. When I was working, I washed my hair every day too, because I frequently had coworkers standing behind me and leaning in to see my computer screen when we would be roughing out a layout. I can't stand the smell of dirty hair, so I was fastidious about keeping it shiny clean so it smelled good to others who had to get close to me.
Now that I am home all the time, I still shower daily, but I can let my hair go for a few days, especially since I usually wear it up around the house. I've always heard if you wash it less, it needs it less, and I discovered it was true in my case. I go ahead and wash it before I go anywhere to meet people though, even if it was just washed the day before. It is just a habit, I guess. I also can't imagine not brushing my teeth for a whole day.
I'm asking because I've learned how very different my niece's hygiene is from mine. And this weekend, my sister came and stayed here. She arrived on Friday morning and left on Monday morning. She wore the same clothes the entire time, including sleeping In them. She also didn't bring a toothbrush. She said she wasn't kissing anyone so why bother. She went out shopping both Saturday and Sunday.
My niece will shower every 2 or 3 days, and said she only brushes her teeth if she is going out. That may mean a couple of weeks if she doesn't need to go anywhere. . Although now that she is in school, I hope she is brushing them every day.
I am really grossed out by this. Both my niece and sister tell me I have issues. I know I am vastly cleaner than they are in my living space, but I figure I'm average in hygiene. I will shower twice if I'm going out at night with friends or a date too. (Meaning take another shower to get ready at night in addition to the one I took that morning.). Teeth get brushed twice or three times a day, even if I'm not leaving the house.
So, am I compulsive as they claim, or am I normal in your view? I contend more people are daily shower people and brush their teeth at least once a day. She says that's bull.

Of course you're right! Shower and brush teeth every day. If niece is living in your house not showering or brushing teeth for days on end methinks you need to make it part of house rules.

Shower and wash hair daily. Brush teeth 2-4 times a day.
I think they are not typical in the US.

I'm like you - brush teeth 2-3 times a day. Shower everyday and wash my hair everyday if I workout. I will skip a day if I don't work out that day. I hate to wash my hair everyday because I just need a dye job that much quicker. I don't think your sister and your niece are the norm. My kids, when they lived at home, bathed everyday and brushed their teeth twice a day. I'm pretty sure dd showers twice a day and she has never had a cavity. Younger ds is away at college, so I think his hygiene is not the best at the moment.

I shower daily, brush teeth morning and night. I do go 2-3 days between hair washes tho, to preserve my alternative colors. my hair is not very oily or greasy, and I can skip several washes without it looking any different.
not brushing your teeth because you aren't kissing someone or going somewhere is just disgusting.

Of course, shower daily and well dang, I guess they should only brush the teeth they want to keep. I was raised to brush my teeth in the morning and before going to bed. I can slack off on the nighttime brushing but not at all for a day? Never! As for washing the hair - I always thought like you when I worked - I washed daily but I don't anymore. I am at home, frequently pull my hair up, my hair is dry not oily and I color it now. Water is not my friend in regards to my hair. It drys it out and causes faster color fade. If I am going out to meet with people, not a quick trip to the grocery store, i was and blow out my hair. I am not sure what your sister and niece are thinking. i think you are on the normal side for hygiene unless you were a teenage boy.

Shower daily, wash hair every other day (dry shampoo on the non-wash days), brush teeth morning and night.

I shower every day, wash my hair every other day and brush my teeth twice a day. At the bare minimum people should brush at least once a day and wash their armpits, crotch and buttcrack once a day on top of wearing clean underwear every day.

I shower daily, first thing in the morning even if I'm going straight out to do yard work. I may even shower in the evening depending on what I did during the day. I Brush 3 times a day, even at work.

I don't usually wash my hair every day. Every other day, yes. If I am active by exercising or heavy cleaning, I always shower. And I brush my teeth 2-3 times a day. My husband showers every day and brushes twice. Even my sons shower every day and they're teenage boys!
And you've answered an unasked question I've always wondered about. I've encountered a few people throughout my life who I honestly wondered about their hygiene, too.

My skin is so dry I only bathe and wash my hair every other day. However if I'm going out I do bathe that day even if I did the day before. I brush my teeth and floss 1-2 times a day. I can't imagine not brushing my teeth for days on end. ICK!!

In my opinion, you are normal.
We are having big issues with getting our 15 yr. old dancer to shower every day. She doesn't think she needs too (even though she dances 1-3 hours per day 6 days a week. I do not understand that. But the other girls at dance brag about having not showered/washed hair/shaved in "x" number of days. I tell her she can be in and out of the shower pretty quickly, but she can't be bothered. And believe it or not, she wants nice clothes, getting highlights in her hair etc. So it's not that she doesn't care how she looks. I even buy a variety of shower gels/soaps to encourage showering! She does brush her teeth regularily. My 12 yr. old showers every day and 17 yr. old is pretty good about it.

I shower every day first thing in the morning. I wet my hair every day, but because it is curly I can't shampoo it every day. I brush every morning and night. I can't even imagine not showering every day, that is one of the reasons I will not go camping with my husband.

You sound perfectly normal.
I shower once or twice a day, washing my hair at least once.
Brush my teeth two or three times, unless I need to brush more often due to what I eat (like onions or garlic or something).
Is there a possibility that your niece is depressed? I've had depressed family members that I had to really plainly tell them that it was necessary for them to shower for their physical and mental well being. Sometimes just normal, every day things fall off the radar when you sink into depression.

I'm fairly certain that what you've seen is not typical.
I brush my teeth 2x daily, don't sleep in my clothes, and shower daily--though sometimes on a weekend day I may skip a shower if I'm not going anywhere. I wash my hair every other day.
I can't bear the thought of not brushing my teeth in the morning and at night. Yuck.

Shower every morning, right after my workout. Wash my hair every day. Brush teeth twice a day.
I think you should shower at least once a day, to feel clean, but that's just me.

I shower and wash my hair daily. Unless I'm camping, then I can go a day or so without. I brush my teeth at least twice per day.

I shower and wash my hair every day and brush teeth at least twice daily. My DH takes two showers every day and brushes at least twice daily. My older three kids (ages 6-12) shower daily as well. The youngest has really bad eczema and a fear of water so he only has a bath 2-3 times a week, although that is getting more frequent now that it is warmer and he is playing outside. I know "experts" say that we bathe more than is necessary, but I think that your sister and niece sound like they have bad hygiene, especially for what is the norm in the US. Especially with not brushing teeth. I know someone who has several missing teeth and the ones that are left are rotted and black. She is always talking about not being able to go to the dentist for a long time due to transportation and insurance issues, and she is self-conscious about this. She told me today that she has a dentist appt coming up so she started to brush her teeth, but she doesn't think it is making a difference. I was shocked that she doesn't brush her teeth regularly at least. Yuck.

I try to shower every day, sometimes it doesn't happen. I don't sweat much because I don't exercise. So, I'm not stinking by day two. I can't go more than 2 days. I wash my hair every other day. I can't imagine going days without brushing teeth.

You are right! Sorry, but that is just nasty. I wouldn't be able to stand it. I shower and wash my hair daily. My teeth are brushed at least twice a day. And my daughters- 32 and 29 - do the same thing.

I can't do any grooming myself. DH helps me. We Sonicare 2x daily a.m. and p.m., mouthwash rinse after lunch. Full bath every other day, sponge baths in between days. Hair wash T, TH, SUN When I was well and working, I showered, and washed my hair and applied makeup every day. Assisting with my grooming can take anywhere from 1-2 hrs. per day and the idea that a competent, able bodied teen or adult doesn't routinely attend to it grosses me out.

My dd brushes her teeth every morning, but only showers every two or three days. I think her friends do the same. I've heard 20 something's say if they don't get sweaty they don't shower. I shower daily and brush my teeth twice a day. I floss about 10 times a day....that's not normal.

I'm not a daily bather - every other day is okay for me if it's not hot and I don't go to the gym. I am pretty sure I'm not a filthy beast but you know.
I'm fastidious about my teeth thanks to a couple of awful cleanings - I brush 3-4 times a day including at work.

Most of the year, I shower and wash my hair daily. But the winter months are so dry here that if I showered daily my skin gets so itchy and dry that it cracks and splits and lotion doesn't begin to help. We also have really hard well water which doesn't help matters at all. So I shower every other day in the winter but still wash my hair every day. How can anyone not brush their teeth at least once a day? I hate that furry feeling on my teeth with a passion! Ugh.

Shower- daily sometimes 2x a day.
Teeth- at least 4x a day but often more but that's because I have dental issues in the back and it helps with the pain sometimes.
Hair washing- is every other day-ish.

teeth brushed twice a day with a generous use of breath mints during the day. Shower/bathe daily during the week but I do skip saturday due to dry skin issues. Hair is washed weekly but again, I have issues with dryness and more frequent washing brings on problems.

I brush my teeth 3 times a day. But I only shower every other day and wash my hair then. Sometimes every third day. Getting around is hard for me though. Americans do wash their hair way too much though and it leads to scalp, overproduction of oil and hair issues. My hair is so much healthier now that I don't wash it daily. Dry shampoo or talc is awesome.

That's disgusting. You are the normal one, you are not compulsive. They are pigs. Dirty smelly pigs! I shower daily (sometimes on the weekend I may forgo a shower if I'm not going out anywhere and want to slob around the house all day) I brush my teeth twice a day, sometimes more on the weekend I wash my hair every second day because it gets oily by the end of the second day. But my DD can go about 5 days without washing hers. I think that's fine as long as it doesn't smell. Sometimes I sleep in the clothes I have worn that day (a tank top or t-shirt) but I change the next morning after a shower.

I shower daily (I will skip a weekend day every once in a while if I'm not going out), wash my hair every 2-3 days (my hair gets too dry otherwise), and brush my teeth 2-3 times a day.
