Maybe I live under a rock, but I had never heard of the FHRITP trend of men heckling female reporters with that phrase when they are live on-air. Now that I have seen a few news stories about it though, it certainly seems to be widespread. There is an awesome local news story about a female reporter who pushed back when someone did this to her last weekend. Her cameraperson kept rolling and the footage was aired. One of the men in the clip has now been fired from his government job at Hydro One with the employer stating that they do not condone sexual harassment from their employees. I thought this was interesting because while I agree that his actions were harassment, they did not occur while he was on the job or otherwise acting on behalf of his employer. Bravo to Hydro One for taking action. Also interesting to note - the man who was fired is not the one who yelled FHRITP - he was egging on his friend who is the one who said it. Hydro One employee fired after FHRITP heckling

We had a discussion about that case here, yesterday: Female reporter has enoughBy the way, even though that employee didn't use that heinous phrase, he did harass her and say some disgusting things. He wasn't an innocent bystander.

Isn't that what Winston (the FSU Heisman Trophy winning QB) did when he got up in the student union and yelled it?

It's beyond disgusting. When did misogyny become OK? Don't these guys have mothers, sisters? How can they think it's OK to behave like that in public? I don't get it at all. I don't know any young men who would act that way, or any young women who would put up with guys like that.

I don't know any young men who would act that way, or any young women who would put up with guys like that. I'm willing to bet that either these guys are generally misogynistic and therefore have no respect for the women in their lives or the women in their lives have brushed off that behavior with the "boys will be boys" shrug that allows them to get away with that crap and think it's okay. Here's an example of a common response when guys like that are called on that behavior: "Well, my mother/sister never said anything, so it's okay. They even think it's funny. You're just an uptight bitch. Probably because you need a good screw."

I read it yesterday and I was disgusted. No woman deserves to be treated like that. If it's not OK to say to your mother, it's not OK to say.

I was behind a car the other day that had this phrase on a sticker on the back window. First time I had ever heard of it.

Sweet baby Jesus, I am 58 years old today and have been smacked in the face with this that I am officially OLD. Because I can't even fathom how something like this is OK by anyone's standards. Who the hell raised these idiots? Do they not have mothers? Respect is just an Aretha Franklin song and apparently doesn't exist anymore. Any mother who raised a son who says that needs to go Baltimore on him.

I can't even wrap my mind around my husband or sons speaking to or treating someone like that but if I *EVER* found out about it they'd be begging to move in with her to serve as her bitch to escape the hell that they would face showing their faces around me again. Where do these people come from?

I love that the reporter got both assholes n camera. Let the world see who they are. Ne dude got fired. They trying to ID the other.
It reminds me of the way the boys acted when I was in my late teens. They'd be drunk or high and just act stupid, repulsive, ugly, you name it. I thought at the time it was because of their age and level of intoxication. Really sad to see grown men acting that way.

Didn't see yesterday's thread, but thanks for the link to the story.
smh at his response to the reporter when she asked what his mom would think if she saw the footage.
I wonder if he and his mom are dying laughing now . . . I'm with steph. If I heard my DH or DS saying something misogynistic like this, a shit storm of epic proportions would rain down upon them.

Since yesterday's thread, I have been trying to come up with the equivalent saying for men, and as of yet I haven't come up with anything. I suspect that if I did come up with something, I would probably end up being accused of being some kind of "hostile man hating dyke feminazi" instead of it being considered a joke that would be worthy of youtube videos, hashtags and widespread taunts at newscasters.

Apparently this is all some elaborate plot to sell Tshirts and/or become famous. He's evidently some kind of weirdo-amongst other things: FHRITPofficial's About PageFHRITP worst hoax of the next 15 minutesI'm (sadly) not surprised at this John Cain as much as by the fact that there are evidently enough grown men in North America that find this funny, cute, or whatever, and have kept it going for more than a year. Now THAT's really depressing

Yeah, and some FSU fans said it was just a joke because someone dared him to do it and it's from a song/rap. Yep, that makes it okay. I don't care why someone does it ~ it's beyond disgusting.

i love the one guy who actually takes off his sunglasses - i suspect he may have regretted that... you know, on the off chance someone he knew actually *didn't* recognize him!
the explanation is just saying "oh, you are too sensitive, there are just words". right. and how would these guys take those same words spoken in a different context.... like the minister at their wedding, his best friend when he introduces his mom to him, when his sister goes for a job interview.... but it's funny cuz you aren't *supposed* to say it then. when exactly is it when you are supposed to say those words? what a moron.

Obviously the guy's behaviour was abhorrent and misogynistic. I'm not sure how I feel about Hydro firing him, though. I don't know how I feel about firing someone for behaviour that happens while the person isn't at work. If he were to do that to a female colleague, no question - fire him. If he did it during a business function like a conference - fire him. But I think it's a slippery slope when we allow employers to have that much control over how in non-work situations.
