If so what. And where. Does it have any special significance?
I have a butterfly that only I can see. It's on my hip. It is a symbol to me of my healing as I came out of divorce.

Nope, no tats here. I don't mind small ones, but I don't like big ones.

I have one on the back of my right shoulder that says..
I carry your heart with me I carry it in my heart I am never without it
It summed up the memory of my parents and the love for my kids.
I plan to get one or two more, I just have to decide WHAT. My sister has a lot, and she has "Mom" and "Dad" in my parent's handwriting on her wrist as part of a much larger one.
So, I have a few in the running right now.
It will either be a watercolor flower tattoo with "Mom" and Dad", something simple, or more words "As long as I live you will be loved" with "Mom" and "Dad" on my wrist.
Or the longer version, on my other shoulder As long as I live, you will live As long as I live, you will be remembered As long as I live, you will be loved
(My parents both died at 60)
I'll narrow it down and get one of those.
THEN, last one.. on my foot I'm tweaking another quote..
For them I'd risk it all Because of them I'll never fall
It took me a long time to get ONE, and now I'm fine with adding. But to a limit.

That's a beautiful reason to have a tattoo.
I don't have a tattoo (yet).
I just have never discovered a symbol that I loved & connected with enough to have forever.

I have 3, my first is on my wrist and means strength in Polish, I got it while I was beginning my divorce. My second is a large octopus that I have on my upper thigh and my third is a version of a claddaugh, but I have blue birds instead of hands and that is just under my bra line and goes across the top part of my chest.

I have one on the inner side of my ankle. It's my sign, and the year of my birth. I got it 4 weeks ago, and love it.

i have two. one on my ankle of Chinese symbol for Eternity and one on my inner wrist that says Yellow Skies. (song by The Choir and having yellow skies after a storm) I got it after i was in a good place in my life (divorce, leaving an abusive spouse, homelessness, custody issues) And i want another one, but have not decided what yet!

no, i am fickle. i think of past outfits, hairstyles and make-up and think i am not sure there is much i would willing to be committed to for the rest of my life. i totally get and appreciate the significance people have with their tattoos, it's just not for me.

I have two so far.
1) My first one, on top of my right foot: the word strength with a pink ribbon. Got it after I completed the Susan Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk (60 miles) to remind myself that I can do more than I think I can.
2) on my left shoulder-blade (near my heart): a heart with wings-- inside the heart is a cat paw and a dog paw. Got it after our first dog passed away very unexpectedly, to commemorate the pets that have been in our lives.
I have at least two more I want to get, but haven't finalized them quite yet.
3) I want either a word (don't know what word yet) or a bird shape (Common Loon on a lake) inside my left wrist... this one will be a visual cue to 'take me to my happy place' when I'm stressed out.
4) I want a design on my right upper arm that will include violets and lilies of the valley and look like artwork from a vintage postcard (to remind me of my childhood).
ETA: I have also been thinking about getting the astrological symbol for Gemini on the back of my neck under my hairline, but I don't know exactly what I want the design to look like. (swirly, but that's all I know)

Yes, I have a tat on my hip. It's a symbol of triumph through difficult times. MorellisCupcake, I have that on a canvas that I made for my bedroom.

still thinking about this....
if i had got a tattoo at 14 it would have been of nick rhodes from duran duran in all his hairsprayed eyelinered glory (my colleague got her first tattoo at 14). if i had gotten a tattoo at 17, it would have been of some morose lyric from a smiths song (if a ten ton bus crashes into us, to die by your side, what a heavenly way to die). if i had gotten a tattoo in my 20s, probably would have been a joshua tree. if i had gotten a tattoo in my 30s, probably would have been a gaelic symbol.
see what i mean? some folks not cut out for tats!

I have many and will be adding a partial (3/4 arm) sleeve starting in July. That one will be draping wisteria from my shoulder to mid forearm, symbolism for Woodstock (Peace, Love and Music) since I'm basically just an old hippie, and my new grandson's birth date added to an existing piece on that arm. I am looking forward to having more work done.

I have a tiny heart that used to be on my hip bone. now it is on a big slab of tummy and doesn't look like it did when I got it 1978, when I was 22. My word of advise to those who are considering a tattoo - don't get one on an area that will stretch with age. They don't wear well.

I have one in my hip/groin area that's completely covered even in a bathing suit. I love it and have never regretted it. I've had it about 5 plus years. It's a stylized heart - very scrolly - made of initials and done in red.
I've wanted another ever since but until recently didn't have any design I was committed to. Then a college friend commented on my FB wall that he thought I had joie de vivre... and it clicked. I knew instantly that would be my next tattoo. This one I want to get in script down my side (like from ribs to hip area). Not huge, but I'm ready now for a tattoo that makes more of a statement.

I have a lower back piece that I've been adding to. It's turned into a family tattoo. It's a cherub(that represents the child I miscarried), holding floral garland with lillies (represents dd #1), camelia's (represents d#2) and apple blossoms (represents dd#3). I like the design, but I'm thinking of a cover up tattoo. I guess it depends on the artists opinion. I thought they could do the same design, but larger and with the additions I would like to make. I want to memorialize my husband and mother. If they can keep the original and make the additions look like part of the design that would be fine too. My limit for size would be mid back. I don't want my whole back tattooed. I think the only other place I would like to get a tattoo is on the top of my foot, but I'm waiting to for my daughters. They have talked about getting identical tattoos.

...I had no interest in getting tattoos when I was earlier, at all, so the whole 'trendy' thing didn't apply. I got my first one sometime right around age 40? (I don't remember) But now I'm being much more selective about the design, and want to make sure the artwork / artist is exactly what I want. The ones I have, I like, but the artwork isn't quite as good as I would have hoped. That's one of the main reasons I've been delaying getting any more.

I commented recently on an older woman's inked lobster. Turns out, she said it used to be a scorpion when she was younger (and smaller). When John O'Hurley/JPeterman hosted the TV show Family Feud, he said the college frat shamrock tat on his posterior now more closely resembled wilted broccoli. I love my aunt's ink for her 50th birthday: on her butt cheek she got a purple Prime stamp that looks like the USDA symbol on a slab of steak.
I always love to hear the story behind the tat: I've heard some really meaningful and profound stories thrown in with a few drunken shenanigans stories. Something for everyone.

I've thought about getting one, but can't decide on a design or a location... So that makes things difficult.
My dance teacher has a beautiful little heart behind her ear. I really like it.

I have a rose and butterfly on my ankle. It's old and needs recolored and honestly, the butterfly isn't all that pretty. I would really like to get his wings extended some. No reason for the tattoo other than i wanted one when i was younger.

None for me as I hate needles. My husband has one that is covered most of the time and I forget it is even there.

Not exactly. I had a bilateral mastectomy and a TRAM flap breast reconstruction. My areolas are tattooed on. I had considered getting one for a long time, but that wasn't really what I had in mind. Still kick the idea around sometimes but the thrill is gone. Lol

I want one. I figure I am old enough now that I can do what I want and the rest of the world can jump in a lake if they don't like it. If I had a theme song for my life, it would be Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds." I want three little birds on my back (shoulder) and as soon as I find a design I like, I am going to do it. (well, after I get a job so I can pay for it. LOL) I am a pretty simple girl, so the simpler the better.

I have three:
One on my upper back, left side. It is a moon with stars. The pattern is the same as the pattern on my son's going home outfit when he was born. The second one is a large one on my upper back, in the middle of my back. That tattoo is the birth month flowers of my close family and friends. The third is on my right lower leg on the right side. It is of a strawberry plant and I got that tattoo shortly after my Grandmother had passed away. She would take me strawberry picking every summer from when I was about 4 to just a few summers before she passed.
I would like to get a fourth, and I know what design I want, just not sure where to put it yet.

No, I really don't care for them personally, but I get why people love them. My son came home with a large cross and the word family inside of it on his upper arm three days after turning 18. He knew I wasn't a fan. I told him he would probably get in an accident and when they sewed his arm back together it would say I love my mommy. Six months later he was in an awful accident. His arm was embedded with window glass all up and down his arm. Not one piece of glass touched the cross. After his accident he got another tattoo on his other arm that says FAITH. Yeah, I don't make comments anymore.

I have 4. Ankle, foot, back and upper arm. The upper arm is my most recent and probably the beginning of a small sleeve.
