According to my optometrist yesterday, my eyes are getting 'better'. Because of the aging process of becoming far-sighted, and I'm very near-sighted. My eye doctor and I had this exact conversation a couple of weeks ago. I am 36, and he says I have officially started "the switch". Um... WTF?? I think that was the first twinge of age I have ever felt. I don't have any kids, so in my mind... I still AM a kid!

You know you're old when you find yourself explaining to a child why people say "hang up the phone."

I knew I was getting older when a bout of hysterical laughter would make the tears run all the way down my leg...

Most recently I felt really old when my dd, who I swear was 5 years old just last week, told me I'm going to be a grandmother! FTR, she'll be 25 this month.

When I was at the zoo yesterday trying to explain to my DDIL that there used to be a chimpanzee show. Where the chimps did tricks, with hula hoops and bikes all kinds of fun / funny stuff! The chimps were trained and it was all quite amusing!

The only songs you know ALL the words too are on the oldies station the 70'80's 90's I learned last week I'm shorter than I thought was an I didn't have any to loose. I'm only 4'8 I thought I was at least 4'10! Dr had to take me back out to recheck my height they had four different measurements down. I'm only 40! I'm not that short at least I didn't think I was. She said well you do shrink as you get older! ha ha! I said you're not making me feel any better!"

I stopped being able to read small print and have to hold it far away from my face. I picked up a pair of those cheap glasses from the drugstore and those have done the trick so far.

Store employees call me "ma'am" now. And, even more depressingly, I got excited recently when one actually called me "miss."

When the teenage boy who put my shopping through his checkout, then asked me if I needed help getting it to my car! I'm 51 and amazingly still able to carry two bags of groceries.
But to be fair to him, they did contain a few cans and bottles and they do have a big sign saying " if you are elderly or disabled, we are happy to carry your bags to your car for you". Corinne

When I am buying Lego and a store clerk said "I bet your grandchild will really enjoy that set". I am used to hearing the "your child" comment when I buy lego, but grandchild, I am not ready for that comment.

You know you are old when people stop saying you look to young to be a grandma. My first grandson was born when I was 44. He is 16 now and I'm 60.

When women in their 20s hold the door for you or insist that you go first. It took me a while to realize it isn't an increase in general politeness; I'm the old lady.

My sister was 15 years older than me, and passed away last May. While at her funeral, I was talking to her grandson, who was 18. Something was said about her being almost his age when I was born, and he looked at me and said "Oh, Nana was older than you? I thought you were the older sister." I said "How old do I look, anyway!?" He went all red and everyone laughed, including me, but boy, that was an eye-opener! I know kids aren't great judges of older people's ages, but really!!!

When I wanted tires for Christmas! Oh, yes. The younger women at work were horrified that DH gave me Weather Tech floor mats for my birthday. I had to confess I asked for them! LOL me too on the Weather Tech, DH got them for my new van for my birthday, the "girls" at the office all felt bad for me. I was thrilled! Wait just wait....

My nephews who are 9 and 11 are the people who make me feel old the most. Most recently I was trying to explain a rotary phone to them and they looked at me like I was crazy or making it up.

When I wanted new light fixtures in my living room for my birthday.
I've always felt older than my age. I gave up heels after senior prom. I stopped wanting presents for birthdays/holidays in my mid twenties.
