The question was asked...so people are answering it. No-one just interjected it into a random conversation where it isn't relevant.

I've got nothing but love for Apple. Me too. I don't understand why people care so much what another person does with their money. It boils down to jealousy, IMO.

I get the same nonsense for having a Canon instead of a Nikon camera. I really don't care why you (general you) prefer Canon or MS or Coke or Llamas or Emus or whatever. Use what you think is best for you, I'll use what I think is best for me. I really hate being told that my camera/phone/tablet/computer isn't as good as someone else's even though it works perfectly for what I need it to.
These days, it's very rare that one brand is that much better than another and they all work just as well. So get what you like and call it a day.

The question was asked...so people are answering it. No-one just interjected it into a random conversation where it isn't relevant. My problem isn't with the discussion here, it's with the responses commonly found on news sites' FB posts or tech sites that automatically condemn the other platform and their users by people that are way over-invested in others' tech choices. I'm talking about making another person's tech choice a condemnation on their intelligence or wealth. Look on CNN's FB post from yesterday regarding the newest Apple announcement. About 8 of the first ten comments are Android users trash-talking. It goes both ways.

I am old enough to remember computers that were the size of a football field and used punch cards. So the fact that I can hold, in my hand, a devise that would fly me to the moon and back all while playing the soundtrack of my choice that wasn't compiled by me laying in front of a speaker punching the record button at *just the right time* makes me giddy.

I love my iPad, although it's been a little buggy lately, and I use an iPhone.
I am baffled by the mindless devotion to Mac computers though, and I'm puzzled as to why people pay twice the price of PCs for reasons that are just incorrect, such as they don't get viruses. Don't get me wrong, I think Mac desktops are aesthetically beautiful, but I'm not willing to fork it over for beauty at this point in my life.

I only have one friend and her husband who are annoying about Apple products. They constantly mention their devices and have to post photos of their newest purchases. It seems like bragging to me.

We avoid Apple products, mainly because my husband is a computer engineer and likes to be in control of the gadgets we bring into the house. That's more or less impossible with Apple products. My biggest personal beef with Apple is that they decide for me when my device is old and needs to be replaced. By giving you the choice of installing an update that will kill your old device or keeping it as it was and watch the device become slow and unstable they try to push their customers to keep buying the newest devices. We had a couple of Ipads that we got from my husbands company as a gift. After three years they were more or less useless. Our Android tablet is still going strong. This and we don't believe in proprietary technology. It irks me to no end that our childrens' school is all apple. They could by more tablets if they didn't worship at the church of Jobs. But it doesn't make sense when the lab is all apple.

maybe people are all or nothing because with Apple you have to be. I can have a Droid and my husband can have an LG and we can share apps. We can use the same program to upload music. My daughter has a Samsung MP3 player and it can take the same music I upload to my phone without any weird work arounds. My son recent bought an iPhone. He's on his own now and will no longer be able to share music with us without having to jump through hoops (that may or may not work.) No sharing aps. If you have Apple products it only makes sense for the whole household to have Apple. Dh and dd have iPhones. They have both gone through 3 iPhones to my one Android. I've had 3 cell phones total in my life including a flip phone. They have had 3 iPhones in the past 3 yrs.

You do know that most of that technology is given to the schools right? Apple is very good about providing equipment to schools. This is true... My son goes to a school that required the use of an ipad. They 'rent' them for $25 per year, and are allowed to keep them over the summer. All of their school work is submitted via the ipad. The rental fee is used for the wifi at the school, scholarships to cover the kids who can't pay the rental fee, and a few other odds and ends. Next year the ipads they had are being swapped out for new ipad airs. The cost to the school is nothing, they have a grant through Apple that provided the ipads, the otterbox covers and for some of the ancillary apps that are used for submissions of work. While I don't care which product is used, I am grateful for the grant that allows my kid to use the technology.

I love all of my Apple products. I had an Apple II C (not to brag!). I love how reliable they are. My MacBook Pro is over three years old and is still faster than all of the new stuff they had at work. Yeah, they are more expensive, but if you love the product, you'll pay for it. Let people love what they want. Cue in Taylor Swift music. My first computer was a IIc also! Didn't we settle all of this in the last millennium? Windows sucks, but we have to deal with it because it's everywhere and it's cheaper. Apple products are really great but they cost a lot. Can't we all just get along? We went from the C to the E to G/S. Then we went HP. We got a good deal. After that died we went back to Macs. As far as the OP's post, it sounds like her FB friend is trying to start the SAHM vs working mom debate with electronics. No one is ever going to win and thank goodness for both products. If either one sucked they wouldn't still be around.

The techs hate our lab because it has four times the problems (than the Mac schools) and is actually more expensive to keep running. The computers last for such a short time. With all of the mandated state testing, it makes it pretty iffy. I can see why schools make different choices with their computers. One is cheaper to start and the other is cheaper to maintain.

I'm an anti-apple person here. My issues are: -overpriced -and I don't like to be bound into some product. For example, you get the phone, the computer, the ipad, the watch and they all hook together forever and ever amen. (clearly some people see that as a benefit). it just seems too 'big brother' to me. -I've also heard people complain that when they bought the new gizmo, they had to buy all new chargers, speakers, whatever. I don't play that. If someone wants an apple whatever, get down with your bad self. I'm doing ok with my lowly android and PC.

I went to Apple from a PC because of the customer service, plain and simple. When I'd need to call Dell customer support I'd get India, some guy whose accent I couldn't understand reading from a script and who wouldn't listen to my question but who would continually go by the script and who couldn't help me in ordinary non-computer words I could understand, and all on an unclear phone connection -- the kind that cuts off briefly if you speak while the other person is speaking. When I need Apple support (rarely) I call the store and get someone whose English is understandable (the accent is irrelevant as long as it's not that Indian/Bangladeshi one, for some reason I struggle to understand it), and who says "of course we can help, why don't you make an appointment with the Genius Bar?" so I do, and I go over to the store and a nice young man or woman tells me what I need to do, fixes it, and smiles. No brainer. I don't care how many new cords I need to buy (only one so far because only dd has the new phone, I'm not getting my upgrade till August) or that the latest os update will crash my old iPad (so I haven't done it). I don't care about that. I just want helpful, comprehensible, friendly customer support people who are right down the street instead of in India! All of that doesn't make me anti-PC for anyone else. Everyone can buy what they want. Those are just my reasons. My PC-loving ds is anti-Apple mainly because he's a gamer and Macs are not gaming computers. That doesn't impact me.

Hmmmm.... I really have no problem with the sync in my Ford escape. Occasionally, it will ask me to clarify by offering choices. I do have an iPhone synced to my car. I didn't he left not to get the GPS system because at the time I had a Garmin and their GPS seemed unreasonably expensive. Mine will give options too, just none of them are the RIGHT ones for either the phone or the navigation, LOL. It's to the point now where I don't even bother trying to use it, and I think DH does it just to see how wrong it will be. Or to test the limits of his frustration, I'm not sure which. I took the car on a trip to Huron, SD shortly after I got it. Fired up the GPS on it and on the phone both, just to compare. When I got close to my destination (a convention center that has been around forever, but I'd never been there before) and reached the city limits, the GPS in the car was telling me I still had 42 miles to go! I was pretty sure Huron wasn't that big, and I was right. I tried everything I could think of to get it to find my destination (search by name, search nearby, search by city, even spelled it out) and had no luck whatsoever. I was thanking God I had my phone because the place was less than two miles away. It wasn't cloudy or raining either which can sometimes affect navigation. I'm so glad we didn't pay more for it, it came with the car which we bought slightly used. My friend's DH has the exact same year/model Escape and she has the exact same complaints about the Sync system, so I know it's not just me. It's just not very intuitive at all. It has taken me on a "three hour tour" more than once when we first got the car. Now I don't even waste my time. I showed DH the deal that came in the mail about the map upgrade and his response was, "Really? They want to charge me $150 for something that should be free? And what if it doesn't work any better than it does now? I suppose they'll want to ding us for this every couple years too."

But that isn't always the case. My friend bought a brand new Apple lap top. Next day it didn't power on. He took it back to the shop he brought it form some 18hrs earlier, he obviously had all the paperwork. receipt etc...they told him they would replace it with a refurbished one because that's their policy. He went apeshit, spent a couple of hours arguing with them, got several managers etc, threatened to take them to small claims court etc. Eventually they caved and gave him another new one. But seriously this new computer wasn't even one day old and they thought it was perfectly reasonable to replace it with a refurbished one! He hasn't been singing the praises of Apple customer service since then.

I have an old iPod Nano (with buttons, love that) for music, but I curse iTunes quite often. My phone is a Samsung and my computers are not Apple. I'm not an iHater just prefer non Apple products. I have been know to leave a snarky comment on Facebook a few times when someone posts a question about how to do something on their Apple device. "Oh you shouldn't have to "do" anything, Apple is "so" intuitive, just think it and it will fix itself." Apple users boast that they are so easy to use, so are all the non-Apple products I've used. Love that when my Samsung phone upgrades nothing changes, unlike iPhones. Whatever floats your boat. It's like arguing over vehicle brands, pretty pointless and they all do the same thing get you to where you are going.

I don't care for Apple products just because I find them too hard to use. They are not intuitive to me and are very restricted on what you can do with them. I have an iPod shuffle from 2006 and it has always made me irate. I remember my boss getting the original iPad and it didn't even have a USB port. He couldn't print a document. IMO it was ridiculously restrictive. But to each their own, he loved it and has gone on to purchase each new model. Among my peers a lot of people use Apple products as status symbols and that can intrinsically make those that don't have the products not like them because they feel excluded. I also have a 1st gen iPad and I've always been able to print from it wirelessly. I used it pretty much all day, every day for years. It has served me well, and we still use it to play movies, music and for DD to play games. I finally upgraded to an iPad Air2 this year.

Our first computer was Apple, but DH went to work for HP, so we have no current Apple products. All corporations are in business to make as much money as they can. I don't see one being more "greedy" than any other.

I don't hate iThings, as I have had 2 iPhones, but I don't love them, either.
I DO think it is ridiculous the way people flock to it every.single.time a new product comes out. I only replaced my iPhone because my last one was starting to crap out, NOT because there was a new one. I also didn't get the 6+ just because it's bigger and "better".
So many buy iThings just because they are iThings, and have to have EVERYTHING that they dish out, which I think is silly. But, that's just my opinion.

Forced obsolescence is the crux of every company's revenue stream. if they built a really great car that lasted over 20 years, how are they supposed to get your business anytime soon and keep making money? refrigerator companies learned this when people were keeping their fridges for that long and the companies were hard-pressed to sell them new ones when the old ones were working perfectly well. you know that saying "they just don't make them like they used to?" it's true and for a reason---the manufacturers want your money more often.
cell companies are great examples of forced obsolescence. 2-3 years seems to be the maximum life for phones these days if you ignore the constant new model releases and system and software upgrades. we are constantly in need of faster processing, more memory, greater storage and better cameras. what works for us today may not be enough in a year.
I have to say, the forced obsolescence is harder to apply to Apple products. they seem to last a bit longer than other products but maybe that's why they cost so much. that is certainly why DH like them. he says they are built well.

Don't get me wrong, I think Mac desktops are aesthetically beautiful, but I'm not willing to fork it over for beauty at this point in my life. I have had exactly two Mac desktops in my entire adult life (I'm 48). The first one (G3) I got used from my FIL when his office upgraded which was probably sometime in the early 1990's. I upgraded to a new G5 several years later when I needed more memory to run Photoshop, etc. In spite of not being able to upgrade the OS, the thing still runs like a top and I still use it for certain things because it's just easier. I now mostly use a nice MacBook Pro that I inherited when MIL passed away four years ago. The G3 was recycled, but the other two are very much still in service years later. Now on the flip side, I bought an HP laptop to run my cutter when I bought it in 2001. It finally died around 2008 and was replaced with another HP, but that one is really slowing down now and probably needs to be replaced. DH has had three PC desktops and three PC laptops since 1996. So in my family's experience, we have had two Mac desktops and one laptop in roughly 30 years with two still going, and three PC desktops and five laptops (various brands) with two still going in roughly that same timeframe. In my family, the PCs are what have added more to the theoretical landfill (we did recycle the dead ones), not the Macs. FWIW, I'm still using the same iPhone 4s that I got three years ago and it still works just fine. The battery lasts all day, sometimes more than a day. It's maxed out on memory, but that's because I wasn't given the option of what I would have liked when it was bought. DH finally upgraded his, but he uses his heavily daily and is hard on stuff like that. Just because a shiny new thing is released doesn't mean that everyone jumps right on the bandwagon to buy one. I know that we sure don't. We upgrade when we need to which is typically when something dies.

I do have a major issue with the tons of electronic trash generated by the "latest and greatest" mindset. My first cell phone lasted a number of years. It was a Nokia. I loved that thing. If the gov. hadn't mandated GPS on phones, I would have used it until it died. Anyway, wastefulness isn't just an electronics issues. It seems almost everything is disposable these days. Thankfully, I don't know anyone that is militantly Apple or non-Apple. Though I joke with my husband about his apparent obsession with Apple since he got his iPhone. I have 2 iPods that are over 5 years old. That was the best invention ever. The boy and I both ended up with Kindles. I like to read on me. I find the tablet features useless. So, no interest in iPads. Previously, we had numerous HP desktops and laptops. My last laptop made it 2 years and it died. Then I killed the 5 year old one 2 days later. Ha! The desktop is 8 or 9 years old and still turns on. It isn't usable. But, it still turns on. LOL! Anyway, the laptops died at the end of the spring semester of school & I needed a laptop. Ended up with an Apple MacPro. I still don't know how to work much of the laptop. But, what I have figured out, I am happy with. But, it was darned expensive. I am still baffled that both of us thought that choice was a good idea. As far as my phone, I'm sticking with my Galaxy thank.you.very.much.

I don't rush out to buy Apple products, but when I wanted a tablet, I got a iPad, because that is what I was most comfortable using. I have an Android phone.
If you have the money and desire to buy Apple, good for you. It's a choice. I wouldn't got stand in line for hours for a new release, but more power to you if you love the products that much.
It has always been interesting to me though, how heated this debate gets.
