Press 'n Seal was brought up on another thread and it got me to thinking. There have to be so many things that we purchase and use for reasons that weren't their original purpose.
When DS was 4 he had leukemia and had a port-a-cath. Before we would leave the house for his chemo treatments, we would have to put numbing cream on his chest over the port and then put these horrible sticky bandages over them. By the time the nurses were ready to access his port, they would have to peel off the bandages and it would blister his skin and it was more painful than the needle they used to give him his chemo.
One day a family came over and gave us a box of Press 'n Seal and told us to cover the numbing cream with that instead of the bandages. It worked like a charm. It stuck to his skin just well enough that the numbing cream stayed put and yet wiped off without pain. It was a miracle for us.
So, what product have you adjusted for a different purpose for you and your family?

there is this natural rubber tubing that they sell for industrial or medical use. my SIL cuts them down to about 1/4" lengths and puts them on her dog's toenails so she can walk/grip easier on the hardwood floors. they already sell ones for dogs but they are expensive and her dog loses them regularly. now she just buys a long length of the tube and cuts them down as she need them.

Continuing on the food-wrap theme, I use freezer paper when cutting felt pieces for the quiet books I'm making. You just trace the pattern onto the papery side, and iron it plastic-y side down on the felt. It makes cutting SO much easier and precise.

I use washi tape all over the house. It works especially good for labeling pantry contents, items that are going in the fridge and freezer. We use a different color to make out when someone in the family is away traveling. I have some scuffs on the heels on my pumps and I'm going to try to see if my black washi tape would work to cover those scuffs and not be noticeable. The sharpie pen I've been using on the scuffs comes off to easily. I use it in my scraproom too.
I use press and seal all around the house - more than the kitchen. Whenever I need to join or bundle some things up temporarily and a Ziploc won't work, I use press-n-seal.

We use pool noodles from the dollar store on our RV under the windshield wipers and on the corners of the slide (so people don't run into a sharp edge). That's all I can think of. We aren't very creative

I love that press and seal stuff...but using it on a wound is the best thing I've ever heard. Wish I had known that before my Mom passed away. She always had skin tears on her arms from when she fell....not cuts but places on her arms where the thin skin rolled up and left an open area. The home health nurse would come and put bandages with tape on them and when we took the tape off....it would create more skin tears. I was using pricey stretchy stuff to hold the bandages on but press and seal would have worked a lot cheaper. Great advice!

I use vodka to make my own version of quilting starch. Works just as well as the expensive stuff at less than $1.00 a bottle.

You can iron light fabric to freezer paper and run it thru the printer, separate the paper and the fabric, then set the ink. works well.
