6/26 -
We are still at our friends' house. I went home for awhile to complete some paperwork for BIL to take to Fred's work (he is retired from the same place) for disability retirement.
Fred is on long acting OxyContin and it is playing with his mind. At 3 am he thought he got a phone call requesting martinis. He was to make one shaken. I was make one not stirred. But we had two hours to get it done.
At any rate. On Tuesday I requested a lower dose. Since it's a controlled substance the script can't be called in. The oncologist put it in the mail and it still hasn't arrived. So I stopped at our family doctor to see if he would be willing to write a script for the lower dose. They attend our church and I'm friends with his wife. So he knows the ins and outs. I did bring the pharmacy paperwork from the original Rx so he would see I was only requesting a reduction.
He did it for me. He also spoke with me about hospice. He is the director of a particular hospice and will help me
when it's time. Dang I hate these conversations. He also said he is available for anything any time. Except he is going to Haiti for a week. "But if you need me, my wife knows how to reach me."
I went to pick up the meds at the grocery pharmacy near my friend's house where we are staying. Except he forgot to include the date! It was after hours. I really want to respect boundaries but I broke down and called his wife. I felt bad but he admitted it was his mistake. He agreed to meet me at the store. He fixed it and came in to do some
Shopping too. He waited with me at the pharmacy to make sure they would accept it. After he left the pharmacist asked if I just happened to run into him in the store. No his wife is my friend. <3

South Jersey got an incredible storm yesterday. Lots of power outages and damage.
Here's my God moment. 5 minutes before the storm hit, our neighbor from down the street came over. Nice guy but we have maybe talked 5 times in the all the years we have lived here. He says I just learned about what's going on with Fred. Let me know if there's anything I can do...
I don't know what possessed me but I asked if he happened to have a generator. "Yes! I'll bring it right over." Just then the sky got dark, the wind picked up and the power went out.
There was a tornado warning so I got my family into the basement. As quickly as I can with switching my husband to an oxygen tank as he tries not to panic, plus get every oxygen tank down the basement, plus ds10 is freaking out. Good times.
The major part of the storm lasted maybe a half hour. We came back up to find the generator waiting on the porch and quickly got Fred hooked up to the oxygen concentrator. We spent hours on the porch watching the most amazing light show.
We called our friends, the ones who came out at midnight the other night to help us out. They had power so we went to their house. They have welcomed us to stay as long as we need. Incidentally, months ago i had a thread about wills and guardians. These precious friends are the ones we have entrusted with our kids.
wHat a production. SIL and BIL helped us get our Stuff together and make the trip. We don't have room in the car for our whole family plus the oxygen converter. It was pitch black for all except the last few minutes of the ride. There were closed roads. We were concerned at the possibility that dh's tank would Run would run out before we arrived.
Our power came back on this morning but we are staying until tomorrow. Fred has had a traumatic few days, and we decided it would be best for his mental and emotional well being to stay put until tomorrow. He feels safe here. He can rest his mind and not worry about moves. And he trusts my gf, a nurse, to be there if I am sleeping. Of Which I am in desperate need.
So for one more day, one more sleep, we will be refugees. Evacuees. A refupea. Very thankful for neighbors, family and friends who are family.
