I went to Walmart to buy some groceries and a tall boy for my marinade. The cashier asks for me I.D. and then says, "Wow! you don't look that old!" LOL! does anyone else still get carded for alcohol?

From my experience (both in buying AND in being behind people in line AND hearing funny stories on FB) I believe everyone is carded.
On FB, a friend of mine said that her boyfriend was buying alcohol and was asked for his I.D. He replied to the cashier "do you want my driver's license or my AARP card?"
I've seen people at least 60 yrs old being carded. I think EVERYONE is carded just as a precaution

I'm 43. There is no way in hell I look like I'm 20, and I find it really annoying to have to go through that nonsense. I do understand that it's just a policy to ask, and I don't hold it against anyone got asking to see it, but I think it's silly nonetheless.
No clerk on earth thinks I'm under 21 and I'm not flattered by someone pretending otherwise. Even more annoying is showing ID to buy cigarettes or a good cigar for my dad. I'm not 17 and no 43 year old on earth looks 17, unless they're Webster I guess.

Here they card everyone. I watched a man I know was in his 70s get carded for cigarettes.

Nope. I have opted not to dye my hair, which starting showing noticeable gray when I was about 28. Since typically women do hide their gray, people seem to have lost any concept of what women my age look like with gray hair, so instead of being carded, people keep thinking I'm my kids' grandmother instead.

I should clarify. In PA, anyone besides a state store MUST ask for an ID when selling alcoholic beverages, even if you're 103. So I don't consider that carding me. But the state store or a bar, those places who go by what age you appear, have stopped carding me years ago.

Here everyone is carded. That have to enter your bday into the cash register.
It doesn't matter if you're 21 or 81, they ask for your ID.

That's my understanding as well. A cashier at the grocery store I frequent said they must physically type in a birth date (at least at that store they do).
While we'd all like to think of ourselves as fountains of youth, it's simply policy.

Believe it or not, occasionally I am. I have kids old enough to buy alcohol. You should see the looks on the faces of people who card them. It's quite entertaining!

We'll show you how it should be done right. :-)

They don't card people who only look under 21 in California, they card you if they think you look under 40. I tend to get carded more often at grocery stores and liquor stores than when I order a drink at a restaurant.

Not at all. My DH got carded well into his thirties. He looked really young, but it has caught up with him.

I was never carded, even in my 20s, for buying alcohol.
But when I wanted to buy a TAPE RUNNER at Walmart, I sure was. (It was weird; I am sure that the same people who made the tape runner also made super glue, etc., and things you CAN inhale, but I thought it was endlessly stupid that someone didn't bother to note that this was dry tape.)

I still get carded occasionally at Wal-Mart. Depends on how old the cashier is LOL. And I'm almost 55.

I'm 36 and got "seriously!?" carded at a bar about six months ago. I had braces at the time, so I think those just threw the lady off.
Other than that, I just have to show my ID when I buy wine.

I get carded when I buy alcohol at Walmart. They need to enter some information into the system. I only use the self-checkout at Walmart.

Not hardly. According to some, I don't look the my age-but at 49 in two weeks, unless it was pitch black dark no one would even consider that I wasn't old enough to drink. If nothing else, the saggy boobs and errant chin hairs would be a hint that I was 'of a certain age.'

Only to buy spray paint. The only other recent time I can recall was buying beer at the grocery. I just beamed at the guy and said "Aren't you sweet!"

Yes at Trader Joe's wine tasting and the other day at Bed Bath & Beyond, the cashier asked for my ID and I said I don't have one and then she said ok your credit card is signed so it's ok (I already knew that and that's why I couldn't be bothered to open my purse for her)
In my 20s I was never carded to buy alcohol, but I've noticed that lately grocery stores are really upping their game carding for it.

I was buying some supplement or something at Walmart that you had to be 18 to buy. (I was mid-30's at the time.) The much older cashier asked "Are you 18?" I laughed and said "What do you think?" She replied "Well, I don't know." Thinking she was just fooling me, I said "Do you want to see my ID?" She replied again, deadpan, "Well, yes I do." I showed it to her, than as I checked out, I got cash back on my card. At the time, they checked ID when you were getting cash back (or something like that, this was about 10-12 years ago.) I said, annoyed at this point, "You just saw my ID!" Her response "well, yes, but I didn't see your signature." It didn't help my response, when after about every 5th item, she kept running to the phone to call someone. When I asked what she was doing, she said, "Well, I'm off in 10 minutes, someone needs to come and replace me." Ummmm....you couldn't wait until you were done with your customer first? Walmart at it's finest!

A friend of mine got arrested when she worked at Winn Dixie, when she was 15. She failed to ask for ID for someone who was underage, because she thought they looked older. Turned out it was someone who they had working for them undercover. It DOES happen.

I got carded a couple years ago and my oldest DD just turned 42 on Monday! It must have been policy to card everyone because there's no way in Hell anyone would look at me and think I'm not old enough to buy alcohol.

I do, quite often. I don't flatter myself, though. I believe that it's required in some stores, and even in some municipalities in the area.

It's a requirement in most stores. I agree that I get carded more now then I did when I was in my 20's. Store policies have changed.
