I haven't met anyone IRL that believes that, but I've heard of it. I just shake my head and feel sorry for all those people who are so paranoid and believe governmental conspiracy. What angered me though, was when one of my real life friends said that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax. She and her husband believe that President Obama and his staff conspired to have reason to take everyone's guns away. I get that you hate President Obama and you love your guns, but don't make light of the senseless murders of all those young children. My nephew is also convinced that Sandy Hook was a hoax and posted a ton of stuff about it on his Facebook page. There is a reason I don't Facebook much.

Actually, . I have it on very good authority that George Bush planned the whole thing. And... oh yes, we never went to the moon, the holocaust never happened, and the US government was behind n d the assassination of JFK. FLUORINE and the internet are plots to subdue the citizens of the US.
Uh...huh....

I know some people who believe that the government had something to do with the other buildings fell such as WTC#7. These people also believe the Warren report is all a cover up. My SIL believes we never landed in the moon and that there are mermaids in the sea but if anyone finds one, the government scoops them up, like RoswellDuh, didn't "Splash" teach us that. She learned it from some "documentary"

My good friend's friend from college worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and was killed. That same friend's sister in law was in Manhattan on business, staying in a nearby hotel, and was with a group of people running down the street when the first tower collapsed. The stories like that are endless, and I have a very hard time believing people who say it was all a hoax and didn't happen. What dumba$$es. Same goes for those who believe the Holocaust never happened. My brother knows a group of people who truly believe that old empty warehouses across the country are being turned into concentration camps for Christians because Obama wants all Christians killed.
Some people are too scary for words.

Some people are lunatics. Millions of people saw the plans hit, live on tv and from the ground. How do they explain what all the eyewitnesses saw if there were not actually any planes? Insanity. I would guess that they go into the the fact that eyewitness testimony is not always reliable. That in moments of crisis and major events such as 9/11 panic and terror greatly effects your recall. Or how easy it is to convince people that they didn't see what they thought they saw or that they in fact saw something that in reality wasn't there or at all what happened. Or that when things like this happen everyone has a story to tell, like people who claim to have been there yet it can be proven they weren't even though they absolutely believe it. Or how easy it is to show something on tv, dress it up as happening live or being real footage and people will buy it (like that mermaid "documentary"). There was a tv series on about how your mind can trick you that was so believable, with science backing it up, that was so scary I couldn't keep watching it. And I'm certain I've seen where studies on the reliability of eye-witness accounts make you wonder why it's admissible in court at all. Multiple people can see the same event but all give greatly varying accounts (I give you Ferguson). Frankly, I'm amazed at how easily led people in general, especially younger ones, are so adamant that because they saw it, read it, whatever on youtube, the internet, CNN, that it must be true. And I do believe that our dependence on technology and the mass desimination of "news" makes us sheep-like and vulnerable. How many times have we seen, even here, where people see something and immediately believe it or pass it on without ever researching it, verifying it, anything? And if you hear or see something often enough, it's proven that you'll start to buy into it. And if that wasn't enough to get you (general you) thinking and even doubting your own mind, the conspiracy theorist would probably point out that the government has a very shaky record when it comes to being honest with its people and a history of shady programs involving manipulating people's minds (like the LSD and brainwashing experiments we now know were done by the CIA, etc..). FWIW, lest I be label a nutter, I do think planes hit the towers. Planes with real people alive on them, not like that Sherlock episode with a plane full of dead people.

Also the grade school shooting in Sandy Hook, that all the parents were actors. Even the examiner. I've heard it called a "False Flag" event. And the Boston pressure cooker guys and those that were hurt were all actors.
Most of these people just don't trust their Government to tell them the truth. Or believe it to be a cover up to hide what they are really doing.

One of the children that was killed in Sandy Hook had parents who were born and raised in the same town I was. She was brought home here to be buried and our whole town morned with them. I can't tell you how upset I am about how those families have been treated by these "truthers". They get on her FB page constantly and post the most awful stuff. It makes me sick ... I can't go to her page anymore because it's so upsetting. Very sad ~

I used to work for a subsidiary of Marsh Maclennan and had to call up to the corporate office a few years after 9/11 and it sucked....they lost so many there.
I also had a friend who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald back during the first bombing -- she remembers having to go down all those flights of stairs and the older partner (can't remember if it was C or F) told them all that if something happened to get down as soon as they could and if they couldn't go down to go up.....and if they couldn't to pray. He passed away before 911 and the other partner as a b*stard to the dependents of employees who died. These guys lived on yearly bonus checks (commissions) that were to be paid out as of 10/01/11 and the partner refused to pay any of the full years bonus or any wages to the widows/children for a long time. He was not a nice guy. He immediately dropped all benefits too.
So yes, it is hard for me to believe that people think it was all an elaborate hoax. Or that anyone would do it to start a war. I agree with Lucy, no matter what I think of any president, I don't know one that would kill 1000s of people just to be able to start a war elsewhere.

My ex doesn't believe we went to the moon and when all of this Y2K crap was going on, you would have thought it was the apocalypse! Stored all of this crap in 5 gallon buckets under the house. When his adulterous ass moved out, I made him clean out all of that out of date mess with him.

Then to be ridiculed and hassled ever since? It really makes me mad. My "friends" have really gone off the deep end these past few years. They are trying to sell their house, and even though it's still on the market, they moved to a place deep in the woods. No neighbors for miles, no electricity. They do have a generator though. I thought that part was cool. She was always posting pictures of their off the grid lifestyle. But when she said the shooting was a hoax and they were all actors, that was it. I wish I had said something at the time, but I just deleted them. Sonetimes, people need to stop and think. They weren't there. They don't know. Why put something out there like that which has the potential to cause someone else so much pain? I'm almost done with Facebook completely. Too many others thinking like that.

My eighth grader mentioned some of his classmates didn't know about the planes and what 9/11 was about in American History class. He was shocked.
He was appalled. Most were infants at the time, but I don't understand how they didn't learn later!

I know tons of people who believe it was all a conspiracy, but I have never heard it wasn't real planes. Never. In the group I know, it is understood that planes hit buildings, lots of people died, and the rest is debated. They also don't believe we were on the moon. The moon has no atmosphere, they say. Where did that wind (flag movement) come from? They believe a studio lot somewhere. I have an astronaut in my extended family. She has been in the space station twice. It all makes for interesting discussion.
I watched a really interesting documentary on Netflix last year. It was all about this sort of stuff. It showed that every war the USA has ever engaged in has been predicated by a manufactured tragedy. I trust my government just enough to almost believe the documentary. Almost.

Interesting as a coworker was Jane Doe #1 when the airplane engine landed on her, nearly resulting in her legs having to be amputated. I am sure she would love to know that she was just acting during all those months of surgery. We lost 11 that day.

I have read online about Sandy Hook being a hoax, the Boston Marathon Bombings etc. These people go into full detail to try and convince others of this. They even show how they think these people are "actors", I guess hired by the government. My Dad has a friend that is like this, so my Dad tries to avoid those conversations at all costs.
It is really sad that people think that way. September 11th was a really horrible day and life will never be the same. I can't even talk to my kids about it with getting teary eyed.

My coworker. He also believed people never landed on the moon and that aliens lived in our ceilings at school. That's a new one! Our ceiling has stains in places where the snow melt has leaked down into the inner ceiling. Something about the circles and crop circles just set him off. I avoided him like crazy. He was nice, so lots of people got stuck talking to him about these things.

Like I posted a few weeks ago, I learned that a friend of mine was a Holocaust denier. Based on a YouTube'documentary'. I swear it was like talking to a fresh member of a cult that had been completely brainwashed. 'I have learned the truth, you are just a sheep RainAngel' She also told me Sandy Hook was a conspiracy. This girl needs to get a dayjob, because she seriously needs to get off the internet! On another note.... Today we remember our very own mass murder here in Norway. It has been 4 years since that angry, white man went nuts and shot and killed 77 people. The anniversary has been respectfully honored, with services and memorials. It is still fresh for us, and the fucker who did this is in jail complaining about his human rights being violated.... I am sort of glad he is still alive after reading this thread. At least we are not getting conspiracy theories about it.

I saw the second plane LIVE in person ( not in TV ) so how would they 'create' a plane and alter my live view across the river?
That's some special effects program

I think in general conspiracy theorists are a bunch of nutters but the ones who enjoy claiming 9/11 didn't happen make me so f*cking MAD! I am married to a firefighter and men from his house died that day. In fact, 343 of them did. How dare you claim this was not an act of terrorism. Asswipes.

What's their explanation for the death of the passengers on those planes, then? Aargh. I mean, I do get having questions re: who knew what, and when. I've always been suspicious that the attack could possibly have been thwarted, and wasn't, so as to justify the Iraq war. I say they believing they didn't expect so many to die, and that they didn't have the specific details re: what the attack would be. But that's still a far cry from trying to argue the planes never crashed into the buildings. I think that is a horrible and unjustified thing to say, and believe me, I have not an iota of liking or approval for the Bush administration. ETA I would put almost nothing past Dick Cheney, but with no actual evidence, it would be extremely unseemly to accuse anyone of such crimes against humanity just because I don't trust him. I'm sorry it took me so long to add the ETA, but the board wasn't letting me in for a while. Oh heck, the board not letting you in, you know that will just fuel the conspiracies!

Perhaps the initial reaction of the company, that lost 2/3 of it's staff that day wasn't perfect, but in the end: Cantor Fitzgerald promised the families of the dead employees 25 percent of its profits for the five years that followed the catastrophe of Sept. 11, 2001 During those five years, $180 million was paid out to victims’ families as promised Every victim’s family received free health benefits for 10 years after 9/11 from Cantor Fitzgerald www.cantor.com/CD/charitieswww.prdaily.com/Awards/SpecialEdition/38.aspxen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantor_Fitzgerald

Too many people here (greater Boston) were directly affected by the events of that day, so I haven't personally encountered any of the conspiracy nutters in these parts. Believe me, it would not go over well AT ALL. DH's company lost 7 people that day. I have no doubt that there are crazies who scream "conspiracy theory" any chance they get, though. Holocaust deniers, Kennedy assassination conspiracy crazies, etc. They're out there. Lisa B. "Conspiracy nutters" What about the Sandra Blands case? Are those people "conspiracy nutters"? Conspiracy that the police is out to get you, or those that deny the medical examiners report that she killed herself. Would they fall into that catagory as well?
