I was watching some Youtube videos today and I was surprised to see how many videos there are claiming that it was all a hoax, that there were no planes and that it was all trickery of some sort. They are serious and go into great detail about underground bombs, digital fixes of all the film footage to edit IN planes that really weren't there, etc. It's fascinating in an odd sort of way because their ideas are so preposterous. Have you met anyone like this IRL? It seems delusional to me.

I have somebody that works for me. I recently found out that he believes that there were plans that crashed into them, but that there is a conspiracy that there is no way the planes caused the buildings to collapse. He feels there were bombs planted that caused it and that the government was behind it. I just am not sure what to say to him...

Well, you know it's Obama's fault. Even though he wasn't President at the time, still his fault. <said tongue in cheek>
I believe I have some family members who could believe this nonsense. I just SMH.

My nephew believes this... and he was a NYC EMT on the scene at the time! He refers to himself as a "conspiracy realist" - yeah, uh-huh, whatever! The guy sees consipiracy in every.little.thing. and there's just no rational talking to him. I worry about him.

I don't know anyone who believes that, but in some scary way, it does fascinate me a bit to hear just how meticulous those folks are about having an answer (outlandish as I may think they are) to every nuance of whatever it is they are trying to prove was a hoax.

I don't know anyone in real life who believes this, but I see these people in the comments sections online sometimes. It scares me that these people vote, but that's the beauty of America, I guess.

While I do believe whole heartedly the government hides things from us, I do not believe this was a hoax.

Some people are lunatics. Millions of people saw the plans hit, live on tv and from the ground. How do they explain what all the eyewitnesses saw if there were not actually any planes?
Insanity.

I haven't seen any explanation for what the eyewitnesses saw, I guess they skip over that part of it, LOL.

Reminds me of all the Holocaust deniers. It doesn't matter to them that there were witnesses and evidence of all kinds. It's all a conspiracy!

I know some people who believe that the government had something to do with the other buildings fell such as WTC#7. These people also believe the Warren report is all a cover up.
My SIL believes we never landed in the moon and that there are mermaids in the sea but if anyone finds one, the government scoops them up, like Roswell

What's their explanation for the death of the passengers on those planes, then? Aargh.
I mean, I do get having questions re: who knew what, and when. I've always been suspicious that the attack could possibly have been thwarted, and wasn't, so as to justify the Iraq war. I say they believing they didn't expect so many to die, and that they didn't have the specific details re: what the attack would be. But that's still a far cry from trying to argue the planes never crashed into the buildings.

I don't know of anyone who thinks this. I can't wrap my head around the fact that anyone could deny the atrocities of those attacks. There were so many to bear witness to the plane crashes, in New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville PA. Many of watched in real time the horror of the second plane hitting the Twin Towers. Honestly, anyone in this Country who would deny this is mentally ill. Those who are radical Islamic deniers have their own evil agenda.

What's their explanation for the death of the passengers on those planes, then? Aargh. One of the videos claims that flight 93 landed at Chicago O'Hare airport and all the people exited the plane and went into some building or something. Others think nobody died because they didn't find any bodies or plane parts, etc. Another video says that the phone calls from the planes were fake because cell phones wouldn't work at the altitude or something. Can't explain away the eyewitnesses, though. None of the videos address the eyewitnesses.

I haven't met anyone IRL that believes that, but I've heard of it. I just shake my head and feel sorry for all those people who are so paranoid and believe governmental conspiracy.
What angered me though, was when one of my real life friends said that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax. She and her husband believe that President Obama and his staff conspired to have reason to take everyone's guns away. I get that you hate President Obama and you love your guns, but don't make light of the senseless murders of all those young children.

I'll go check with my SIL, who swears her friend died in 911. Oh wait, he did die in 911. Then I'll go check with my ex neighbor in NYC who lost most of his team from Marsh McLennan that day.
God people suck.

Although most of us have probably never met anyone from The View, wasn't it one of them that believes it was a conspiracy and their proof is that fire doesn't melt steel?

Too many people here (greater Boston) were directly affected by the events of that day, so I haven't personally encountered any of the conspiracy nutters in these parts. Believe me, it would not go over well AT ALL. DH's company lost 7 people that day. I have no doubt that there are crazies who scream "conspiracy theory" any chance they get, though. Holocaust deniers, Kennedy assassination conspiracy crazies, etc. They're out there. Lisa B.

I have friends who believe these types of conspiracy theories. I'm a gamer and these things tend to be popular with them. A couple enjoy partaking of drugs while gaming and another does suffer from bi-polar and will not take meds. I have a cousin who was inside the first tower that was hit. He grabbed his briefcase and left. He said they were told everything would be ok and they could go back to their office. He knew better as he was also in the building when it was hit in 1993. He would give people like this a piece of his mind.

I think that is a horrible and unjustified thing to say, and believe me, I have not an iota of liking or approval for the Bush administration. ETA I would put almost nothing past Dick Cheney, but with no actual evidence, it would be extremely unseemly to accuse anyone of such crimes against humanity just because I don't trust him. I'm sorry it took me so long to add the ETA, but the board wasn't letting me in for a while.
