Nope but I have seen a quite a few women over 60 that have died their hair a bright color like purple or bright red. No idea why but it was all the rage. I haven't noticed any lately but I will probably see some later today having said that.
I won't be doing that to my hair it gets colored its normal non-grey color.

I have not, but I certainly don't see that as any reason for other not to do so. You have one life to live, and much of it is full of tasks that we do because we need to not because they bring us happiness. If adding some purple or green to your hair will bring you happiness (and you are able to do so), then I think you should absolutely do it.

I did that when I turned 30...had it 11 years and pay it no mind anymore. It's just "there" lol 3 tattoos were done I think before turning 30..lol Slight highjack. We now know I got my hair colored in my 40s. I started getting tattoos in my 30s. And my belly button was pierced in my 20s (maybe when I was 30 after DS was born) it has since closed up. What should I do for my 50th?? Have a man-like midlife crisis and buy you a convertible. Lol.

"I'm not a fan of the purple, green, pink dyed hair on any age, but especially dislike the look on adults. We're all different, though, and like/dislike different things." -----------------------------------------------------
That sounds like me. I tell my girls, if ya havn't seen it naturally, they don't dye it some un-natural color. I think it looks sort of ...unprofessional, and people don't take you seriously. Now if you are artsy professional, I think it's ok. Otherwise just no.

I have some purple I plan to use. Fun hair should not be relegated to any specific age group.

I have never and would never do that to my hair for 5 reasons...
I worry way too much about what people think of me. I do not want to come off as I am trying too hard to be young or cool. I could not afford to keep it up by someone that could do it right. I could not get a job around here with it. and the weirdest..... I can't stand when someone's hair does not go with their outfit. haha
If you do not have issues like me, go for it and show us when you get it done!!

My hair is currently hot pink...all of it. I love it and get a lot of compliments. Before that it was turquoise. I am 41...almost 42. I think it all depends on your personal style and so on. Just know it makes it harder to wear certain colours you may have worn in the past. This pink makes red tougher to wear and I love red. If you want to try it; you should. It is only hair! Here are some pics to illustrate my hair colour:

skydive!
(j/k-- unless it's something you'd want to do- I never would.)
ETA: I take it back; get the convertible!
And to the OP- I am firmly in the camp of 'it's only hair' and do what makes you feel happy, and there's no 'age-appropriate' issue to be discussed. I would love to try bright-colored hair, but my hair is way too dark-- I wouldn't want to have to bleach it. But if it was lighter, I probably would try it. (and FWIW, I got my first tattoo in my late 30s, just got my third one at 46, and am designing my fourth, which will be a quarter sleeve. none of them are on my ankle, however... lol!)

You can try the little clip-in extensions! My SIL owns a salon and is my stylist. When I worked I couldn't do anything fun at all with my hair but I did sneak those in a few times. She put them in with a little metal clip crimped around some of my real hair with a tool. They were fun! I'm actually thinking about getting a few Harley Davidson orange ones put in for the rest of the riding season! These are some I did when I was still working.

I'm 53 and had dark pink streaks added to my hair. It was a fun look and faded away after a month or so. I'd do it again

It's not for me but I have a friend that did a blue streak back in the spring. She has very light brown hair and the streak looked really cute on her! She just recently changed the streak to pink and she said she's going to try a few more colors before she's done and goes back to regular highlights.

When I turned 50 my dh bought me a camero. I didn't think I was having a mid-life crisis but maybe he thought I was I was camping in N.H. and he had it delivered as a surprise gift. He's a keeper (and so is the car!) Funny thing is I always thought I wouldn't be one of "those older people" in a sports car and now I am

I need to lose weight. I always say that when I'm thin I'm getting a fun color added to my hair. Now I'm of the mind set that I need to loss a lot of weight, and by the time I'm done that trend will be LONG GONE.
I have a shorter do so my meet in the middle point maybe that I color the sweep of bangs a funky color. Love turquoise!!!! And I just turned 43 if it makes a difference!

No, but I wouldn't have done it at 30 or 20 either... I agree its more about personality than age.

I say if it makes you happy and you won't get fired from your job for doing it, go for it! I said in one of the other hair coloring threads that when mine gets gray enough, I keep threatening to color all the gray pink. Maybe not *quite* as pink as impearia (that really takes confidence! You go, girl!) but something in the pink range. I don't know that it would be something I would do forever, but it would be fun to do it once! (Maybe that will be the "crazy" thing that I do for my 50th since it's not permanent like a piercing or a tat!)

I say go for it!!

I don't think it matters what age you are. Do it if you like it.

Another vote for personality. I see many people who are frumpy dressers and have no real style of any sort who seem to think that adding a funky hair color suddenly makes them stylish and cool. Nope. No way. It almost just accentuates the frump, IMO. Now, if you're a more stylish kind of person, or the kind who can do funky and carry it off, then sure. I also greatly prefer when it's streaks or tips or something other than a whole-head color. But I don't think you're a bad person if you like something other than what I like...particularly when you consider MY personal style (or lack thereof)...

I'm thinking if doing the under neath layer dark purple. I've hit a point where I'm "life's too short for boring hair" lol I say "go for it!!" My last stylist wanted to try out a red product that was painted on, and I let her do it to my hair. It looked great. I was right--I knew the female employees won't say anything about it, and the students would love it and tell me so.

leslie132 - Please don't wait until you're "thin enough". Life is passing you by now. Nobody ever thinks they're rich enough or thin enough to do what they really want to do.

No. Not my style plus Iceork for a conservative law firm so they wouldn't be too impressed.

I am a brunette with some blonde, pink, and dark red streaks in my hair. I am 46 years old. I just colored my hair like this a few months ago and I love it. I have my senior citizens at the retirement community that I manage give me compliments all the time. I had complete strangers in Boston last week on vacation give me compliments. i get 3-5 compliments a week on my hair. It is also cut in an asymmetrical bob. It is just plain fun and I love it...so I say go for it! Be awesome and own it!

I don't like it, and for me would be a career-limiting decision. I am not a fan on anyone, but I think if you want to experiment, do it when you are young if you want, because later I don't think it's appropriate. My dd is about to be 13 and has very long, thick, dark hair and is thinking about purple ends, I said it's fine with me (even though I don't like it, I don't say that to her) I have told her it is her decision. Because her hair is dark they would have to bleach the ends and then dye it pruple, that horrified her - she loves her long and healthy hair...so she has decided no for now, but it is her choice to make - either way. I told her to do what what she wants style wise when she is young because it can limit her options as an adult.

Question - those that have brightly colored hair or streaks or ends dyed... what is your occupation?
I know it never work any job I have had, and I usually see it on teens or sahms, hairdressers, or performers...never in an office or teaching etc. So just curious what jobs truly let you be you. I think places that let you be you - sound cool. Thanks.

I work in a small office. 5 women (all over 50...I'm 41) some weeks we see no patients...some weeks 1 or 2. So doing my underneath layer and maybe a streak or 2 on top won't be a big deal..

I am the community manager of an independent living retirement community. You would think that my residents would be very resistant to my hair but it has been quite the opposite. They really love it. I have even had people who were interested in living at our community that had just come by for a tour tell me how much they love my hair.
