I don't mean just getting your hair colored I mean actually putting a different color like blue pink purple on part of your hair at this age? Update...brighter than I anticipated, takes some getting use to..but I like it! My 16 year old son wanted color on top too...

I'm asking for women 40 plus have you ever added a different color to your hair at this age?

Have I ever done it? No, my profession is a bit too conservative still for that. Would I do it? In a heartbeat. I have a friend whose hair is electric blue and I love it! But she's a professional bassoon player, not a public accountant.

No, I have never wanted to color my hair like that ever. I am very conservative as well as my work environment.

I am 43 and I did purple. It was an extension, so I could remove it when I wanted. I loved it! I don't know that I would dye my hair though.

It's not for me personally, but I think trends like that relate more to individual preference than age. It would totally suit the personalities of some older women I know.

No, I haven't done it. Just my humble opinion, but some trends are better suited to the younger crowd.
Exception: wearing the bright pink color for a breast cancer event or whatever ribbon color event.

I like it on other people if it's done well. For myself I've been there and done that as a teenager so it's not appealing anymore.

I'm thinking if doing the under neath layer dark purple. I've hit a point where I'm "life's too short for boring hair" lol

I think it's cute, but around here it's like sticking a flag in your head that says it's my 40th birthday. Not that theres anything wrong with that... Ankle tattoo is 50th birthday. I heard someone joke there will soon be a code about what the colors mean.
But that is "here", it's probably fresh elsewhere. If you want to do it, go for it! It's cute, fun and easy to change to another color of you like.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think something like that just looks better on a younger person.

I think you should do it! It is only hair color and who cares what other people think of hair color!

A 40 year old friend just had a purple strip put in when she got a funky new cut. As well as the strip she also had some done in the underneath layers of the bottom two or three inches so that as her hair swished you caught glimpses of the purple - it looks fab!

I have purple in my hair. Before this I had purple and pink. I am 49. Right now I need a cut and color and want to add more purple because I don't think I have enough I have always been somewhat conservative but trendy. The final push to do it came from my then 18 yo DS. I get tons of compliments on it.

I am over 60, work in a professional office and had a hot pink swatch put in mine a couple of weeks ago. I love it. I think to each her own and if you want to try it -- go for it. It's not like it's permanent -- anything but considering mine is already fading a lot and it's just been two weeks. I just see it as an accessory. I have medium brown hair (dyed to cover grey) so my stylist had to bleach out the swatch where the color goes. You hair looks light (at least in your profile photo) so you could easily try a temp color to just see how it goes. There are chalks, sprays and kind of a crayon like thing that you could use to try it out to see if you like it which will wash out immediately.
Go for it! My mantra lately has been to "live a life full of color"!

I've had color a lot recently. Few months ago had it dyed medium brown with lots of chunky pale blond and red streaks. Roots are grown out and when I had a trim last week she showed me new colors she got that are more fade resistant and said she thought the dark purple would look good (thinking underneath layer and two streaks mixed in on top) Heck my 16 y o son is gonna get blue tips on his hair...lol

I don't understand why age has anything to do with it.
If it looks good on you and you like it, do it.

I'm breathing down the neck of 48. I've done purple streaks a few times and I've done pink once. My hair is different every time I get it colored. I don't think it has to do with your number age as much as your personality and personal style. I was very limited at what I could do with my hair, clothes, etc. until I retired two years ago. I had a strict appearance code at work. I did push the envelope a few times with a tiny colored extension here and there. That may be a way for you to see if you like a pop of color or not! If YOU feel good with colors, if they make you smile, that's all that matters. I feel like you do, that life is too short for boring hair, lol.

I'm not a fan of the purple, green, pink dyed hair on any age, but especially dislike the look on adults. We're all different, though, and like/dislike different things.

I am almost 60 and I would do it ( a little bit of Hippie still in me). My shy 14yo DD just had her hair shaved on one side for the start of school. Why not? I told her it is only hair and it will grown out if she does no like it. She has been getting a lot of attention at school and is happy she did it.

I'm 56 and going through my second mid-life crisis, LOL. My first was age 48. I would dye some streaks in a crazy color in a hot minute IF my poor hair wasn't so stressed and thin from some endocrinological problems I had a few years ago. I'm also having to hold myself back from ordering distressed jeans with rips in the knees. I literally feel like I'm waging war with the 15 year old that is apparently still alive and kicking within me.

My sister did hot pink streaks for a couple of years. She looked great and it fit her personality well.

I have. I had dark brown down to purple ombre. About half my hair was purple (my hair is long). I got lots of compliments on it. I did dark brown with chunks of turquoise/blue but I didn't like it as well, it didn't have enough blue in it. I'm mid-40. An artist/photographer who doesn't give a shit if someone thinks it's not "age appropriate." Kiss my nicely aged ass. lol.
Do what makes you feel good. If work says it's ok, and you like it, then get down with your bad self.
I saw a woman a few weeks ago, probably 65+, and her whole head was pink. It looked cute on her and a I saw people stop her to tell her how cute it was.

I did belly button piercing for 50th personally. But I hated it and pulled it out before 6 months were up and that was the end of that. Lol.

It's not my style at all, so I wouldn't do it, regardless of age. But if it was something I wanted to do - and wouldn't be an issue with work, etc. - I'd do it and wouldn't consider age a barrier.

We now know I got my hair colored in my 40s. I started getting tattoos in my 30s. And my belly button was pierced in my 20s (maybe when I was 30 after DS was born) it has since closed up. What should I do for my 50th??
