I honestly didn't even think of it like that until I read this board (and now I won't be able to un-think it when I catch up on The Whispers). I just thought Minx was a dumb name for a kid, or anyone for that matter.... But it still doesn't beat the name of my real life friend's kid whom they named Stone, last name Queer. I shake my head every time I hear it.

Took me forever to realize that they were calling her Minx not MIGGS. Don't know, I guess all those concerts in younger more foolish days has does something to my hearing. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out what Miggs was a nickname for. Then I wondered about Minx and thought it more a name for a cat, but it's tv and there are all kinds of names on tv these days that make me get a bit . This week I learned it isn't really her name, rather a nick name. Millicent is a bit old fashioned and then I spent a little time wondering how they got Minx out of Millicent. All in all, the Minx/Miggs/Millicent thing took up more time than it should have.

I had a doll named Minx, as a kid in the 1960's. My mom got a set of those cloth panels you cut out the doll, sew up the sides and stuff. My brother had Mike. We did have the third doll too. Wish I still had Minx, she's worth a bit today. Minx Doll panelPoint being, I've always thought of Minx as a girl's name. Kinda like it!

This would definitely be on the list. There was a football player who had the last name of Fagg. Very unfortunate, I must say.

Never watched that show or heard of the name Minx, I would think it sounds better for a cat. Bambi, Candi, all wtf names. I have a neighbor named Candi, I didn't realize until now she's the age of the shoe brand by same name. It was a teen disco trend. But before that - wasn't she Barbie's good friend? The doll, not my neighbor. I don't think so, but maybe it was Barbie's bff Midge's stage nane when she was working her way throgh college!

I thought that Madge was Barbie's friend (way back in the day of the 1960's).
I do not understand the creative ways of spelling of names and I don't get the naming a child an either/or boy/girl name such as Jamie or Kelly.
Each to their own. You don't get naming a kid Kelly or Jamie just because it could go either way? Lolol this is the tops for stupid reasons to complain about names. My cousins Jamie (boy) and Jamie (girl) and I (Kelly) won't invite you to our birthday parties I guess. Eyeroll x eleventy billion PS just to blow your mind even more, DH is named Kelly It's like our moms just didn't get the memo I had a Kelly as a flower girl at my wedding, and a Kelly was also the Best Man I, myself, have a name that could go either way. It has never once been an issue for me. Also, I knew a couple named Kerry (male) and Carrie (female).

It is a nickname. If you watched the latest episode, we found out that her real name is Millicent. Chris I did, but I must have missed that. Still a bad nickname for a little girl as far as I'm concerned. Must have a different meaning in the USA not really an insult in my world! According the the urban dictionary, it basically means slut. But like you said, things have different meanings in different countries. Willie (while not my favorite) is a relatively common shortening of William here. But if I remember correctly, in England it means a man's privates.

I don't know anything about the character, but with this as its definition, it's still not a name I would personally choose. "minx noun \ˈmiŋ(k)s\ : a sexually attractive and playful woman who often causes trouble" I thought I would have heard all the "2 countries separated by a common language" things by now, but I have never heard this definition of 'minx' before. Now I see why you guys are not amused by the name. In New Zealand, a minx is a scamp, a scallywag; and it's not unusual to hear someone call their little girl a minx. A little girl who sneaks up behind you and taps you then hides as if they hadn't done it - that's a minx. Or she wraps her arms around you and whispers "I love you mummy", then asks for another piece of cake - that's a minx.

I know a middle aged woman named Bambi, and its really just odd, almost creepy in a Whatever Happened to Baby Jane sorta way. Minx is ridiculous. Totally agree

I had a customer whose legal, real first name was "Toy."
I felt she must have really worked hard to gain her position because I am sure she was not taken seriously for much of the time. I felt sad for her burden in life with that as a name.
