I got fitted in a shop and bought some expensive bras. The "underwire" caused marks on my sides that are still there. The underwire turned out to be a piece of hard plastic. I'd take them back.

Standing, walking, sitting up straight - the bra feels wonderful. And damn, the girls look good! I've been wearing the "cover everything with a thick layer of white fabric" matron bras from Penney's.
I've realized it only hurts like hell when I slouch. Guess that's one way to improve my posture!

If you have sizeable boobs... NEVER. It is a lie from the tiny boobed woman who have never worn an underwire for support. A good underwire will feel fine as long as you stand up straight and look forward. Do not sit, twist, walk, breath or otherwise alter your position. I'm just really surprised ... I'm a 32G and just don't have these issues! Sure, there's nights I come home and can't wait to get out of dress clothes so the bra comes off too but that's not because my bra Is causing pain.

I used to wear underwires, but my boobs are bigger now. The biggest problem I have with them is that the wires underneath seem to sit right on my ribs in a way that is very uncomfortable when you do anything other than stand up straight. Sitting in a car, sitting at my desk, anything else I do means that wire is pressing on my ribs and I hate it. Question for those who say they have the smallest boobs ever - why do you wear an underwire? Isn't that more support than you need? Oh my god, THIS! I wear an underwire for work and dress, but it's the first thing I whip off when I get home. I'm not crazy chesty (34 D), but have enough that I don't feel comfortable totally braless. At home I wear a compression sports bra just to keep the girls from bouncing.

I have a large chest, wear underwire only (another one who is first thing on/last thing off), and don't have any problems with them. Once in awhile I'll get one style that will poke in the side or something, but that just means that style/size isn't for me. Usually I can catch that in the fitting room. If they are chafing under at all (although they shouldn't be moving much, the realtiy is sometimes they do), consider using a body powder or anti-chafing gel. I just started using Lady Anti-Monkey Butt and am really impressed with how smooth it makes everything. I didn't buy it for the chest area but really like it there.

If I don't wear them I look like a 12 y/o girl. Even my 17 y/o dd likes to make fun of my boobs....she's a 36C and I'm a 34AA

NEVER! I am short waisted and short. So when I sit there is very little space between the boobs and the hips. I am not that big around 36c too.. but like i said I'm less than 5' tall. I can do the Bali soft ones I like those. I can't remember what the official name of them I just know the brand. I don't like sports bras. I tried and tried to do wire but never could.

I always wear them and find them very comfortable. Loose wires don't half bugger up your washing machine though!

I love my bras! But like someone said, finding the right one is like the search for the Holy Grail Unfortunately, my recent holiday pudge is making my favorite bras less comfortable

My mother got me hooked on bras from Woman Within. They have many different brands and styles. The Magic Lift soft cup is pure awesome. This exactly! I hate underwires with a passion. I have not worn one in about 10 years. Soft cup with the extra banding for support. WHO makes such a bra, icedcoffee14? I HATE my expensive "professionally fitted" underwire bras with a passion!

Jockey has a new system for bra fitting. I bought the kit which you use to det. You cup and band size. That cost goes toward any purchase you make. My favorite. Bra was discontinued by Warner's. I loved their sizing Sm, Med, large. I am going to open my kit and see how it goes.

Warner's discontinued my favorite underwire bra. So I am looking for another one . Jockey has a new bra out . You buy a kit to help customize your bra. It comes w a number of cup sizes. I have yet to use its but know that soon I will need to get serious about finding a new bra.

If it's hurting, it's either not the right fit or the right style bra for you.
If you've got really big girls, I'd recommend going to an independent bra shop in your town. Otherwise, the people in the intimates department in Nordstrom do a great job.

I don't know that you will. I haven't worn one since I was very young ~ probably 40 years or so. I find them unbearable.

When I fit myself according to the "fitting video" frequently posted here. I was a completely different size than I've ever been fitted in convention ways. I ordered a Wacoal according to her sizing. The first two weeks this thing killed me. After those 2 weeks went by it fit well. I am sure it stretched a bit. It's now comfortable.
I am however on a quest for a comfy wireless bra for bigger girls. I found that Wacoal also has one and since I like how my wire Wacoal fits, I think I may try to order a wireless one just like it and see how it is.

Honestly, I don't even notice anymore since I've worn an underwire bra for such a long time. This! I hate sports bras and the wireless make them feel like they're sagg'n to my knees

Cannot stand any bra. So unfair that we have to be civilized and wear bras. Wore undewires for 20 years, Warner's, Bali, Wacoal, professional fit, not professional fit, tried them all. Some were tolerable but the words comfortable and bra do not belong in the same sentence.
Found the most supportive and tolerable bra for me is the Enell Lite. It is a front close non-uniboob no underwire sports bra and is hideous, but who cares. So tired of torturous bras. I am 36DD and it provides great support, wide shoulder straps to relieve the damage done by bras of the past.
If I could take my bra off in the car on the way home from work I would. Bra is off the second I walk in the house and only back on if I go out in public or have visitors.

I think the use of Underwiredbra varies from woman to woman. Your ps will clear you whenever your breasts are in the right place and shaping up nice. I'm 4 weeks post op and technically my surgeon wants me to wait another week before wearing a bra without underwire. So who knows how many weeks after I'll be cleared to wear an underwire. Even though my breasts are shaping up really nice and almost where they need to be. Can't wait any longer either! Tired of underwire-free and sports bras Do NOT click the link. This is originally from 2014.

Went for a fitting today (wasn't that not fun!) and the saleswoman convinced me to buy Cacique (sp?) bras with underwires (she said I needed the extra support for my "big girls". Felt fine in the store but I just put one on, sat down, and holy hell! It feels like I have something digging into my rib cage.
Am I going to get used to this, or did I just waste my money??? sounds to me like you don't have the right bra - the underwire shouldn't be painful. May I suggest checking out A Bra That Fits on either Reddit or Facebook - there is a size calculator (most people find out they are wearing too big a band/too small a cup) and suggestions on bras to try based on your shape (wideset/closeset, shallow/projected, short/average/tall roots etc...)

I am D-DD and 40-42, depending on the bra. I think it's all about finding the right bra for you. Style and size matter. I have tried some brands-style that dug in underneath and hurt, and some that haven't. I've been wearing the same brand and style for years. I am soft, bouncy and droopy. Containment is a mandatory, when in public. My bra is for the most part comfortable (it doesn't dig in underneath), but I am always happy to take it off when I get home.

When I get home it's the first thing that is coming off as I walk upstairs to change and wash my make up off. No bra, no make up = COMFORT. This doesn't work for me. I'm so uncomfortable w/o a bra that I even sleep with one (not underwire). I need a good sleep bra! I’m a 32H. Got any great suggestions for one?

I am constantly amazed that these women dont really care.. and have no issues going bra less.. even in a work environment... we work on a production line... its all free the tatas and I am like hell NO put on a bra!!! lmao...

I’ll echo a lot of other comments- if it fits well, there really shouldn’t be any “getting used to it.” I’ve also worn underwire all my life. In the last two years I’ve also had some some non underwire bras for around the house- not necessarily because they were more comfy but they are much cheaper (I buy pricey good quality underwire bras) to stretch the bra budget. Anyway- they do not look nearly as good under clothing. My underwire bras lift me and place the girls correctly and it just makes me look thinner and my clothes fit better.
I’ve been a DDD most of my life (last few years is DD) so I don’t don’t think the argument that bigger chests can’t wear underwire confrontation is true at all.
I will say there’s been a couple times I was fitted and I ended up needing to go up a band size because I don’t want them as tight as the sales person thought it should be. Since I’m a little shorter, I also have to be mindful when selecting an underwire that the bra style I choose doesn’t have extra high wire in the area under my arm or when I sit it could poke and irritate that area — BTDT!
ETA: regarding sleeping - I can sleep in an underwire no problem and have most of my life! Now I don’t- I use “sleep bras” from soma and Nordstrom.

I recently went through a phase of *hating* my bra and only wearing a cami (which is not always the most flattering look lol) - but then went to Nordstrom and got fitted and discovered I’m not actually a 34B but instead a 32D (WTH) and now love my bra. I also love lace bralettes which are comfortable and super sexy when the lace peeks out.

I've been wearing u/w bras for a good 20+ years. My fav is Wacoal T-shirt bra--for me they are comfy from purchase and wear/wash well. I tried a non-u/w bra recommended by a pea last year--it was ok, though I have to admit I'm back to my Wacoal u/w--still my fav! If the bras you bought are uncomfortable, go back and try a different size/style/brand.
Oops--didn't realize this is such an old post......
