The Silhouette Cameo starter bundle is a Deal of the Day at Amazon. It is only $179. I bought mine two years ago when someone posted at 2peas about it being a DotD back then. It is the most consistently used craft thing that I have ever purchased - I have made a ton of heat vinyl t-shirts, cards, wine glasses and more. Anyhow, if it is on your wishlist, let your loved ones know that this is an awesome deal! ********************************************************************* UPDATE - 12/2 link to today's listing
The starter bundle is on sale again today - $20 more than last week, so it is $199, but still a great deal!

Ok. I really might have to throttle myself here.
*Love* my Cameo. DD has asked for one. This is a great price...wonder if I'm going to get a better deal if I wait? Or should I just get it over with?

You won't find a better deal, simply because of all the extras in the bundle, including two cutting mats. She won't need anything else to get started with it.

You twisted my arm. When my debit card goes up in flames, I'm going to tell DH it's Elaine's fault!
(Actually I was going to buy it anyway so I'm thrilled to get a great deal. It's more than I paid for mine.)

Oooo, I am seriously debating this one. I do have some Amazon $$ that I've been waiting to spend on something fun for myself. Hmm. Elaine, you're killing me! The Kohl's throws, the flannel... I'm going to have a pile of presents from Elaine under my tree!

It isn't a state-of-the-art drone, but the reviews on it say that it is really a great buy for the price ($48) and indestructible. My hubby and boys will have fun playing with it - they love that type of thing.

Update: I pulled the trigger! I ordered it for myself and I'm so excited!!! Thanks, elaine! I had buyers remorse when I bought mine a couple of years ago due to the peas, until it came in and I made a card with it within an hour of unboxing it. I lost all doubt immediately. It has been great to use up my cardstock leftover from paper scrapping.

That was part of my issue; I'm afraid I won't get the hang of using it, so it's encouraging to hear I might manage! I'd started out looking at the Cricut Explore with the craft store deals on those but couldn't decide whether to go for it or not; it seems like the Silhouette will do a better job at meeting my needs. I did have the gift card to burn, and I'm hoping I can make dh some graphics for his race car, so I've already comfortably justified my purchase.

Is this better than the cricut? I have never used a Cricut, so can't tell you. I like the Silhouette software, the design store with tons of cute cheap files, and can do things like pull graphics off the internet and turn them into t-shirts.

Dammit, dammit, dammit. I don't need this. I really don't. I don't do any scrapbooking anymore, or cardmaking, but I WOULD use it to etch glass and do vinyl stuff.
Must resist.

Okay, I'm going to go for this. I've added black and white vinyl, plus a fabric blade. Is there anything else I need to add to make it so I can do those two things?

Ohhhh, this is tempting. It shouldn't be since I have one, but it is older, I could easily sell it and I got a very unexpected bonus at work for a project I've been working on for a while. Some of the new features would sure be nice.

The fabric blade is for fabric, and if you want to cut fabric, you'll need either Silhouette or some other brand of fusible interfacing. It can't cut fabric without stiffener. What type of vinyl? If you want to decorate items other than fabric, regular vinyl is fine. If you want to make t-shirts, you need heat transfer vinyl. The blade that comes with the Silhouette will cut vinyl and paper. If you want to etch, you'll need etching paste - armor etch is the best!

I have interface already, if I don't need Silhouette-specific. And I'm thinking vinyl for things like my mailbox, etc. I hadn't considered t-shirt transfers... Basically, I'm wondering if I need different things specifically for the Silhouette, like is there a specific mat I need if I cut vinyl/fabric? Total newb here... I've never had a cutting machine before. Thanks for your help!

The fabric blade is actually the same as the vinyl blade - just a different color so that if you want to keep them separate, you can.

What you have will be fine, as long as it is fusible/iron-on. After you get the hang of things, you'll probably want to buy better vinyl for things like your mailbox - oracel is the best brand - as Silhouette and Cricut vinyls aren't the best. There have been a number of threads for good sources for vinyl online. Silhouette will be fine to start with.

Is this better than the cricut? I have a cricut that I use with sure cuts a lot and I have a feeling that the silhouette is similar to the set up that I used. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my set up! When my cricut bites the dust, I will be selling my cartridges and gypsy and getting myself a silhouette. As long as it works with my Mac.
