* Il Divo * Andrea Bocelli & David Foster * Mahalia Jackson
I know I'm dating myself with that last one, but I grew up with Mahalia Jackson's "O Holy Night", so it's a longtime favorite from childhood. We had a whole LP album of Mahalia Jackson's Christmas music and OHN was one of my favorites, so her version is always special to me. We had a slightly different version than the one currently available on YouTube.
I also like the Anuna version and the Kings College Choir Cambridge version that several other refupeas posted.

A 3-page thread about O Holy Night??? Oh YES PLEASE!!!
Without question my favorite Christmas song ever.
When I was a kid, I went to bed before Johnny Carson came on, but on very special occasions my parents would come wake me up to watch a segment. Garry Morris and James Galway were always such "special occasions". I remember being woken up for Garry's O Holy Night more than once.
Many of the versions mentioned already are favorites, but now I'm on a mission to find the absolute best one.

I loved that Circle of Life. I think it is probably best to watch the video the first time so you can appreciate the voices. I never would have realized what it was just listening. Thanks for introducing it to me.

I like the simple ones mentioned, especially Martina McBride.
But for some reason, I also love Mariah Carey's version. It's far more dramatic but I really do love it. Up loud. Women with voices like that can really butcher a song, but she has an incredible voice and for me this isn't TOO overdone.

Today I heard the absolute worst version ever! Christina Aguilera. OMG, I turned off the radio 3 times and it just went on and on. I have never heard that song so butchered in my life.

Caveat - she tricks you at first but as she gets going - ouch!

Hands down my favorite Christmas song. I have always loved John Berry's version but I am going to bookmark this thread and give the other suggestions a listen.

O Holy Night is my most favorite carol of all and Il Divo is my favorite version. Goosebumps and lump in my throat worthy rendition.
