^^^^^that was my first time writing/typing 2016. Sorry if I missed a dinner thread and I'll close this one if need be. I just miss my dinner gals when we skip a day. I have pot roast going in the crock pot. Since I have the Ninja cooker, I seared it on both sides first, even though the recipe didn't call for it, just because I could. This is the pot roast I made a special trip to the supermarket for yesterday, but my sister asked me to wait till today to make it so they could come eat, too. There are carrots and onions in the pot with it, and I'll make mashed potatoes, and sister is bringing a salad even though she's just as averse to making them as I am. Oh, and I'm about to make a banana cake, too. Feel better, akathy , and I hope scrapmaven is okay, too.

I don't always respond to the dinner threads, mostly because it gets embarrassing to admit to oatmeal and peanut butter toast, but I read it every day...glad you started it. I had leftovers from yesterday-black eyed peas and rice/gravy. I could probably put this on my last meal list (along with fried chicken and and chocolate cake with 7 minute frosting.)

I "think" if I can get the energy, baked chicken legs (using hot sauce or bbq sauce) baked potatoes, left over veggies..

Thanks for starting, lucyg! I also hope that akathy and scrapmaven are doing well. We just got home from lunch and a movie. And now it's time to start dinner! I guess we've been enjoying the second sunny day of the year and marveling about how green things are outside. Back to food. We're having turkey tetrazinni and broccoli. I froze turkey after Thanksgiving so that we could have some during the winter. anxiousmom, I'm planning on finishing up our hoppin' john tomorrow. I make it with brown rice, and love it!

I made this: www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/ham-fettuccineusing a roasted tomato/Italian seasoned smoked sausage in place of the ham and egg noodles instead of the fettuccine. We have had this recipe before, it is good, but can be a little heavy too. I usually make the full amount of sauce and onions/mushrooms, but with half the meat and noodles, since we like extra sauce.

I was coming here to be inspired because I have no idea what to make and it's almost 5:00! I've been asking all day what everyone wants to eat and no one has made any suggestions. So, I've decided that I'm just coming to visit y'all and my family can figure out what to eat!! But really, I need to figure out something!! AGH!

My family asked for Buffalo chick macaroni and cheese. I've never made it before but I modified a few recipes and it is in the oven now. Hopefully it will taste good. I made some plain macaroni and cheese for my youngest since she doesn't like spicy foods.

Even though I'm not cooking tonight, my day is not complete without the dinner thread. Thanks, lucyg for starting it. It's take-out night at my house.

We had roast chicken, roasted sweet potatoes and parsnips, and salad. DD is making apple spice cupcakes so we'll have that later for dessert.

Thanks for starting the thread lucyg, my day is not complete without reading it! What kind of roast are you cooking in the crockpot? Last time I made one it cost me 20 bucks and was awful!
Trying to stick to some healthy eating I am making turkey burgers (sans buns) cottage cheese and a green salad. DH is gonna be thrilled!! NOT!
I too hope akathy and scrapmaven are doing okay.

My husband came home from the hospital today and doesn't have a huge appetite so we're doing snacky things. I made stuffed mushrooms, Knorr spinach dip with mini bread, mixed fresh fruit, and maybe sliced cheese & salami.

DH is making chicken and dumplings for the very first time! I made him look up a recipe. He got an 8-quart enameled cast-iron Fontignac dutch oven for Christmas, and he cannot stop using it. He just keeps researching very big recipes! So far, I've made cottage pie in it (Christmas day), and he made venison stew in it (December 28th), and now chicken and dumplings. We're eating very well here!

I too hope akathy and scrapmaven are doing okay. It is a chuck roast and yes, it cost me $20. I thought it was going to be on sale (otherwise I would have pulled one out of my freezer) but it wasn't. But I do expect it will be very, very good. It looked beautiful in the package. newlywoods03, I'm glad you're feeling better (keep it up) and idahomom, I'm glad your DH is home from the hospital! Feel better fast, everyone who isn't!

It's forty degrees colder here than it was this time last week when we had the AC on. I had no other choice but to make chili to ward off the chill.

I'm making this but with breast tenderloins instead of regular chicken breasts. I've made it a few times and everyone loves it. It does have a strong mustard flavor though, so it may not work for people who don't love mustard. rachelschultz.com/2012/07/11/worlds-best-chicken/Also rice and probably broccoli.

We have company and are taking them to Stone Brewing for dinner. I plan to start with the fried Castelvetrano olives and roasted marcona almonds and then either the green curry salmon & mussels or the freshly caught special of the day. Can you tell I'm looking forward to dinner? LOL I love checking out the menu and anticipating my meal .

I did chuck roast in the crock pot yesterday and it was delicious. I only bought it because it was on sale for $3.99/lb!! So good there was no leftovers.
Tonight was Charlie Red hots and cucumbers.
I'm really trying to cook more this year. Less take out, more home cooking.

We went to see Star Wars this afternoon, then hit the fruit/vegetable market (that also sells fresh meat, lunch meat and prepared foods. Lol). We picked up Italian sausage and peppers, meatballs and penne, and green beans almondine from the prepared food counter. Tomorrow is bacon cheeseburgers, though!

Hi everyone. We went to my mil's house to drop off her Christmas presents and then took her out for New Years lunch. Well, she ended up treating us, but that wasn't our intention. So, dh and kids ate a big lunch and tonight is just snack or fend. Thank you for thinking of akathy and I. Since I thought akathy might start the thread and she hasn't I'm hoping she's OK.
