No thongs no tennis shoes no capri pants or what my mom called pedal pushers no crocs no mom jeans or other frumpy clothes no bows or overly frilly stuff
I'm too old for shorts or midriff baring attire, but I can still rock some cleavage. And my arms are still skinny so I wear sleeveless in summer.
Dry clean is okay once in a while if I can do it in my own dryer with a diy product. I will iron occasionally too.

I wear almost everything on these lists that many of you don't wear. I wear dresses, hose, high heels and animal prints. And even though I don't need to dress up for work I still do. I just like it. I have an Audrey Hepburn quote that says something about believing in manicures, overdressing, primping, being strong and happy. It reminds me that I can be a girly-girl and a strong woman at the same time. This is so me. I work in a small office in a very small town. I wear dresses, skirts, blazers, high heels with hose. Being dressed up makes me feel professional. I do do have some personal don'ts that are things that don't work for my body style: -slacks that have the hook and eye closure (I have a tummy and the extra bulk is the last thing I need) -shorts. I have long skinny legs and it just makes my regular sized body look fat -pjs in public but that's just common sense. Lol!

I agree with soooooo many of these- I'm surprised I can wear anything at all ?but may I add one more? No horizontal stripes. We went to Las Vegas back in my skinny days & even then...why did I think I should have 2 outfits - one shirt with wide red horizontal stripes & one with green? I saw the pictures from the trip & immediately put those shirts in the donate bag.

It is easier to list what I do wear:
for shoes, if it is a flat or loafer style I'll wear it. I would love low heeled boots but my calves are heavier than boot makers think they should be. Cotton or cotton blends. Skirts and not too fussy blouses. Short sleeves. Blues, greens, black, brown.

No white pants No solid white tops No sleeveless or cap sleeves No shoes that are tight or narrow in the toe box area (I wish I could but I've had surgery on my left foot and I just can't. ) No thong underwear No going out in public in pajama pants or without a bra (this one seems like it should be everyone's rule.... I'm just sayin'!) No cleavage No large/bold patterns No words across my butt or down the arm/leg (Think VS Pink) No jeans with an extra 8 lbs. of blingy decor I prefer shirts that don't require dry cleaning or ironing but I'm not totally opposed to them either

Many of the same things as others. My number one no is no flaps on pockets on jeans or tops. They never look good after wearing them once!

i have on an animal print cardigan with some wide legged trousers with high heeled boots - and most certainly an underwire!
i don't like crew neck shirts or turtle necks either i don't like pantyhose but tights are okay
otherwise i don't have many rules for myself

No horizontal stripes - I'm big, but I only know a few people who can pull this off at any size. No white pants - no way could I keep these clean for even five minutes! No stiletto heels - I will wear a two or two-and-a-half inch heel if it's got stability and if I'm not having problems with my knees, but most of what I wear these days is less than 1.5 inches. No under wires - even though I'm big chested, they are just not comfortable, especially once I sit down; the wire sits right on my ribs where there is actually very little fat. No yellow - just not a good color for me. No turtlenecks or tight necklines - I feel like I'm being strangled with these.

I break more than a few of the rules you all have listed, but reading your lists, I realized I have some unspoken rules that I'd never actually verbalized. Like, no sequins and spangles. I do have one sequined tank that I wear under a black blazer, but I'm generally not a sparkle girl. I'm about to travel to visit the inlaws in an area where it seems like jeans, shirts, purses and even hair(highlighted/lowlighted several colors) are all bedazzled. I feel like a pigeon in a flock of peacocks, but I'm cool with my mostly neutral look.
Obviously no pjs out of the house. I only wear athletic clothes if I'm running or at the gym. Generally, no dry cleaning. I will break that rule for good, strong cashmere. No mom jeans. Shiver. No writing on my behind. Nothing that attracts too much lint.

nooooo wire hangers! Even seeing them in Dh's closet makes me cringe.
Moodyblue's list is my list, even the color yellow is a no no for me, but I do wear my crocs and sweats in public!
I wore the crocs last night to church..but it was a movie night, so I probably could have even brought my 'blankie' also. Probably would not wear them on a Sunday.
During summer it is all about the flip flops and sandals...but I do get monthly pedicures.

I am such a fashion don't. I love my capris (I am 5'1".) I love my fuzzy crocs (although I don't wear them out of the house ) I love my yoga pants and do wear them out of the house...etc. One of the biggest (and likely the oddest) is that I will not buy any kind of dress pants, skirt or dress that is navy blue unless I can walk across the store and pick up the EXACT SAME SHADE of navy shoes. Spectator pumps are fine, but the navy can't be a different shade. Otherwise that clothing item will never ever get worn because I will lose my shit every time I try to decide which shoes to wear with it because nothing looks right. I had this same issue with navy, but solved it by wearing red shoes, or bone colored with a dress. I can't wear a light shoe with a dark pant.

No shirts with collars, I like the look but they won't stay put and are constantly sliding back, and it messes with my hair. No pointy shoes, they must have a decent toebox and arch support. No thongs, ewww. No linen, I also like the look, but the first time you sit down, you are wrinkled all over and it looks like you slept in it. No dry clean No pantyhose No horizontal stripes No bling on jeans No skinny jeans or leggings No tucking in stuff I wear cotton dresses all summer with sandals, but in winter I have to switch to jeans because it's very cold. No turtlenecks, necklines are scoop or v-neck

NO dresses. NO pantyhose. NO flower prints-UNLESS they're on a scarf. NO pointy-toed heels or heels generally speaking. I have chubby feet. NOT Fred Flinstone feet but they are chubby. I've never met a ballerina flat that didn't break me out in blisters. I also HATE sandals or open toe-open foot anything. It goes without saying that I don't wear flip flops-they are a HUGE cultural no-no. I LOVE loafers, oxfords, and tennis shoes. I can do glittery-but not too much-again, usually in scarves. NO tank tops. No sleeveless. ETA: NO LEGGINGS and no capris.

No thongs No hose (I do wear a lot of tights in the winter tho) Low Maintenence- no dry clean, hand wash, and ironing Nothing EXCEPT underwire bra except for running and gym No sheer shirts that require a tank or something underneath No pleats
I like a little sparkle, glam, ruffley accents, bows, etc in small doses, not a whole outfit.

Most of my things just have to do with comfort... I can't wear heels because of my bunions, but I would if I could. I don't like the way thong underwear feels, so they are out. The rest I'm pretty open about...I love clothes and will put together all kinds of combinations.

No green, brown, or rust No leggings No long tops, they make my booty look bigger No thong or skimpy underwear No cleavage No distressed jeans No tight waistbands No high heels, but I like a little style No fur, leather, fringe, can't pull it off No pleated skirts, if I wanted to look fatter, I'd just eat more No writing on anything, I'm not a billboard No turtlenecks Nothing tight, stiff, scratchy ,, binding, or too hot
I like soft, natural, cheery garments that follow the shape of my body. I have a huge cardigan collection.

NO tank tops. No sleeveless. ETA: NO LEGGINGS and no capris. I'm intrigued by this. How are flip-flops a cultural no-no? I'm from Nicaragua. Flip-flops-we don't wear them. Well, maids and people who are poor do. No one else does. We don't care how blinged out or expensive they are-flip flops are things not worn in public like here in the U.S. I mean-I don't know how else to say it but there you have it. Ok well-the only exception is maybe if you're at the beach or in a place where you aren't comfortable putting your bare feet. But otherwise-no.
Sandals-yes. Flip-flops-no. I'm 44 and I've never even owned a pair. Nicaraguans are constantly confused about the flip flop phenomenon. Notwithstanding the fact that they're awful for your feet.
So that's why. It's a huge cultural thing.

Most of mine have been covered. So many of my rules have to do with comfort. I have had to add "no flip flops" recently which saddens me tremendously but plantar fasciitis is a bitch and flip flops are the cause of it for me. Also, all my bras were in the laundry one day so I decided to wear my super heavy duty sports bra to work. By 9:00 a.m. I was about to suffocate. I am entirely too claustrophobic to wear a straightjacket bra outside of the gym.

M~, it's interesting to think about a clothing choice as being a cultural / economic symbol, so to speak... I never really think about our ordinary, everyday clothing choices in that manner. Thanks for replying and explaining.

Nothing yellow. No sleeveless. No shorts. I'm over 50. Think of the children. No bras without underwire. Nothing Christmas. No T shirts with "hilarious" slogans. No ugg boots. No pointy toed shoes. Nothing scratchy. No linen. I don't object to ironing, but not when it lasts two minutes. No head to toe black. Nothing that needs a clean or a repair.
