I haven't done much thrifting lately, but I popped into Goodwill a few weeks before Christmas to kill some time while I was waiting to pick up my husband from the train. I found 14 60's Holt Howard Santa glasses for $0.99 each! We used them for the big family Christmas gathering. I was sad to put them away, but I look forward to using them again next year.

There was a stressful moment when I went up front to retrieve a basket and upon my return, a woman was holding one of "my" glasses. Fortunately, she lost interest, so I swooped in.

Great score!! I love those glasses!!
I haven't been thrifting for a few weeks, but last time I went I found two pairs of really nice jeans, that fit me well, for $5 each (it was half-price day). They were a great deal for a few reasons:
1) I'm 50+ lbs overweight and I typically HATE how I look in jeans
2) it finally got cold here in Phoenix, so I needed some full-length pants to keep warm
3) I'm in the process of losing weight very quickly via a Dr-supervised eating plan, so the fact that I got them at such a good price means I won't feel bad about re-donating them when they get too big for me.
Tomorrow is half-price day at Goodwill, so I may hit up a couple stores-- we'll see.

I haven't done too much this year but the last two months of the year were big thrift store months for me. I'm setting up my new office so I picked up a cherry wood desk for $50 (and then painted it.) I also found a desk chair in good condition for $35. The other day I bought a couple of bags for pretty cheap. One is probably a fake, but it's big and has real leather trim, so who cares if it's not really Dooney and Burke? DD likes the size and the color. The other is a large snake skin patent leather look tote that I grabbed for myself. I find myself wanting a bigger bag these days so I can carry paperwork more easily.

I'm terrible about knowing what is valuable and what isn't when it comes to thrifting. I didn't know pyrex was a big deal until 2 peas. That being said, they are awesome! I love that type of vintage look.

chendra those are so cute!!! Fabulous find. You really lucked out in finding them! I found a replacement top for a piece of my grandmother's Pryex refrigerater set. It's for one of the little red square dishes. I did a little dance in the aisle Also found a bin of Duplo Legos for DS for $1.99. It's a random mix, but has some fun pieces in it he doesn't have. When sets are $35 and up, this was a nice score! I loooooooove thrifting at this time of year. Everyone is cleaning out and the pickings are good!

Those are awesome! I've never heard of them so will have to go and do some research. It has been really slim pickings at my thrift stores for the past couple of months. Not only that, but they have really raised the prices. I did pick up an interesting Pyrex casserole yesterday. It is my first promotional piece - Pyrex Cosmopolitan. It's a 2 1/2 qt. Cinderella casserole with lid. This one is in near mint condition! So excited to find it! I was just lucky in that they were just putting it on the shelf when I saw it. ETA: chendra - I just looked up those glasses and you really scored big! A set of 6 sold on eBay for $50! Looks like there is a matching pitcher as well. You'll need to keep your eye out for that. That is great! Pyrex is snapped up immediately around here (if it even makes it to the shelf). I was right behind another shopper when a Pyrex "Friendship" casserole dish was put out. The other shopper nabbed it and she was excitedly telling the cashier how it was going to become her designated macaroni and cheese dish. I couldn't begrudge her
Thank you for telling me about the pitcher. I looked it up and of course, I really like it! I don't know if I'll ever be lucky enough to find one in the wild, but I will keep it in my mental shopping list.

I love that type of vintage look. I don't always know what I'm seeing, but I know what I like! I usually try to look up my finds later. Mid-century has been very popular in this area for years (maybe it's waning?), so I was shocked that they had not been scooped up yet.

You're right--this is a great time of year to treasure hunt, as everyone is cleaning out. I arranged with myself that I would do some clearing out before I go out trolling again. I need to get on that.

Those are so great!
My find is so meh in comparison, but I bought a Brooks Brothers silk cardigan for $1 at Salvation Army last week.
I did snag eight 4-piece place settings of Crate & Barrel dinnerware for $45 on a local FB board. It's beautiful. C&B sells one place setting for $35, so I considered it a big win.

LOVE the retro Santa glasses! What a nice find. I haven't been since early December & I need to go again this weekend. Last thing I found was a really nice white china platter with a pretty design in black around the edges and a gold rim. I just couldn't put it down so it came home with me. And earlier this fall I found a gorgeous silk brocade jacket (Chico's) in colors that were perfect for fall and the holidays.

I have gotten dh hooked on thrifting. He actually goes by himself and often suggests that we go check out our local huge charity thrift shop--great for walking around on a rainy day.
We have a goodwill just down the street--it's small, but we've gotten some good deals there.
Dh picked up a Pottery Barn cherry stained crown moulding 3' shelf ledge for $5.
He also found a PS2 game console for $15. All it needs is a new controller. I love video games, and I've wanted a Playstation for a while. Dh never had a video console as a kid, so he's never played these games, but I think he'd really like them.

Love, love, love those glasses and I'm not even a Christmas person. Halloween's usually my favorite, but there's just something about the dark background and those adorable santas! I would have had a heart attack too if someone was holding one of "my" glasses when I returned with my cart...I probably would have carried a few with me to make sure it was known I was there first, LOL. I looked up holt howard since I have never heard of him and that stuff is so kitschy it's adorable. I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm thrifting, but I'm certain we never have anything of that adorable quality at the salvation army or goodwill around here. I bet the goodwill pulls it for auction it's so stinking cute!

I love thrifting even though I hate 'normal' shopping. I found this vintage sweater last week. The tag says "Robinit". I also found a vintage cheerleader megaphone!

I found a brand new purple Kindle cover for $3.00. I bought my mother a new Kindle for her birthday next week and it's a perfect fit.
I also got a bottle of Essie nail polish "Your Hut Or Mine" for $1. I've never bought nail polish at a thrift shop before, but this looked brand new too, bottle is full and there's no staining around the rim, so it doesn't look like it's ever been used.

I found a beautiful handmade pottery small platter in beautiful shades of blue for about $2.75. Also, a handmade fisherman all wool sweater for about $4.50. Oh, this is a big one. Last week I found five Fiestaware platters in retired colors for a grand total of $8.00!!! And a working wine refrigerator for $12.00

Goodwill is so up and down with their pricing; sometimes they price items higher than they were/are being sold retail, and sometimes they don't know what they have, as in your case. It's always such a thrill to find an incredible item at an incredible price

You've all found some great deals! Don't you love it when you see the perfect thing sitting on the shelf and you can't believe no one else has recognized its wonderfulness and snapped it up? I love hearing about your finds and the thrill of the hunt. And photos are always nice too (hint, hint) Oh, and happyOCgirl, my mom used a megaphone similar to that in the 50's. It even had her name on it. We kids played with it until we destroyed it, alas. Can you tell what school it is from?

I had been looking for a good office chair for 3 months. Found one today in perfect shape for $15 with my 25% off coupon.
I also got a set of brand new, mini, battery operated, Christmas lights for $1.49.
My best score lately though was the All Clad ladle I got earlier this month for 1/2 price @ $1.49. (I feel like I stole it)

I am not sure what the rules are in Australia, but I'm pretty confident that over here, they would have to toss all used cosmetics-- can't be resold, so they'd have to have some way of verifying it was new. Good find! Y'all are making me hope I remember to stop in the St Vincent shop tomorrow after grocery shopping (when SO won't be with me and bored out of his skull).

It is 30 inches tall!! I can't imagine using one this big. It also has a pencil line so the cheer leader could get the hand painted letters straight...fun feature.
