EDITED: Sorry, I didn't realise that Elaine had already started this thread so feel free to post on either one!! I know that some of you have already posted new dishes you have tried on my original thread, but I thought I’d start a fresh thread. I mentioned on my original thread that I would post the weekly Recipe threads Monday my time, which will be Sunday most of your time. I tend to do most of my cooking of new dishes on the weekend because it’s too hard during the week with work and kids sport etc. So, for week ending Sunday 10th January, what new dishes did you try? I made 2 new dishes: 1. Chilli poached eggs with tomato and avocado from the Jamie Oliver Super Food cookbook that my MIL got me for Christmas. It’s not particularly fancy, but DSO loved it and we’ve already had it twice. The poached eggs are pretty cool. You lay some cling wrap on the bench, brush with a little bit of olive oil, then sprinkle chopped chilli in the centre of the wrap. You then break an egg over the top and gather up the cling wrap – get rid of all the air then tie a knot on the bundle. Poach in simmering water for 5 minutes (the recipe says 6 minutes but that was just a bit too long if you want a runny yolk). Spread some chopped avocado on some grainy toast, then tomato that has been cooked in boiling water for 40 seconds, peeled, de-seeded and chopped. 2. Passionfruit Panna Cotta In the linked recipe you put the panna cotta mix in a glass and then put blueberries in syrup on the top. I didn’t bother doing that because I wanted to use these cute little panna cotta moulds I’d bought myself just before Christmas. I thought it was really nice but no-one else was that excited about them. I would make it again for people who like panna cotta - just not my family LOL!

Oh I must've missed that we were doing this but I LOVE the idea!! 1. I made THIS vegetable soup this week. My people whined that there wasn't meat in it, so I bought a rotisserie chicken from the store and added about 1/2 lb of that. HUGE hit with the 3 out of the 5 of us that would eat it. I'll definitely be making it again. 2. I also made THIS Vanilla Almond Granola. Except I omitted the oil and used honey instead. OMG, it was to die for!! I've used it on my yogurts in the morning and also on top of an apple w/pb. It perfectly fits into a quart sized jar that I just leave on the counter. I'm going to be making more again this week sometime!!

Recipe 1. sounds lovely. I am always looking for something easy and tasty and this looks like it would be just perfect. Thanks. Going to try this tomorrow since I have two nice ripe avocados sitting in the basket right now.
Thanks AussiMeg for taking on this task. I am so looking forward to trying some new recipes.

I also have made two new recipes this week!
1. Was Slutty Pasta, a recipe I found on Pinterest that uses zoodles. I got a spiralizer for Christmas and needed to use it. We loved the zoodles but we didn't like the sauce. I followed the recipe exactly even though it called for anchovies and that grossed me out. I won't be making that again!
2. Was Chicken Picatta. I have never made it or eaten it. I really liked it, dh thought it was okay! Apparently he doesn't like capers!!
I am no quitter so I will move forward a try some other new recipes!!!

DH and I signed up for Home Chef deliveries a couple of months ago, and almost every recipe is something new to us. Tonight we had Chicken Pad Thai, which I've had before, but had never attempted at home.
It's been fun to try new meals, and REALLY fun to spend time cooking with my DH.

Love this thread and recipes from Pinterest 1. I made this Key Lime Pie and it was a winner. So good! 2. This soup Cauliflower Chowder Dh really liked this but I added extra bacon to his bowl since he is more of a meat eater. This soup was better the second day. Again, I cooked more bacon for dh for the second day I also added a bit of smoked paprika. Tomorrow I'm making Broccoli Cheese Soup I'll report in next week.

I made baked sweet potato fries tonight from cookie and kate dot com. They were good, not crispy like fried of course. I used my own spice mix that is actually extra pulled pork rub from Amanda and Kevin's recipe. I made turkey burgers and started with a pinterest recipe. I used 3/4 ground turkey, 1/4 ground beef, chopped mushrooms, diced onion and red bell pepper, chopped spinach, seasoning salt, pepper and worchester sauce. Cooked on the George Forman and they were really good. Dh raved about how much flavor they had! I also made a chili mac/goulash recipe from pinterest yesterday. It was ground beef, elbow mac, chopped onion, 1 can diced tomatoes and 1 can Manwich sauce. It was really good but I would use half a can of manwich next time. Sorry I can't link from my iPad, it is being stubborn

1. I made crockpot Southern Slow Steaks today. I used beef broth and beef Better than Bouillon. It was fork tender and really good. Next time I will thicken the gravy again before serving. I almost never eat beef, but really enjoyed this. DH loved it. 2. Yesterday I made double chocolate biscotti for the second time in 2 weeks. I melted dark chocolate and "painted" the bottoms with a pastry brush then dipped them in walnuts. I also added chopped walnuts to the batter before baking (you know - to make them healthier ). Also the 2nd time I made 2 loafs instead of one to make smaller pieces. We loved these and so did everyone we gave the first batch to.

DH is on a low FODMAP diet, doctors orders. Bascially Gluten Free, no HFCS, no apples, no pears, no onion, no garlic, no honey, no molasses, no broccoli, no asparagus, no beans, no milk, no cream cheese, and the list goes on.....shoot me now. LOL! Poor guy, he's been having some gut trouble and now that I know about it I'm trying to be supportive. But do you know how many foods have onion and garlic in them? If it wasn't for those two items this diet would be a cake walk! When he starts adding back items in five more weeks, hopefully onion and garlic won't be the problem. {fingers crossed} Anyway, it's been 9 days and the only thing I've enjoyed are these GF Snickerdooles and these GF Peanut Butter Cookies. Hahaha.

I bought juicing carrots last Friday. I've never seen it before. It is a 25lb bag of carrots. Loads. But they were roughly 25 cents per pound... I could not resist putting these in the freezer. Cream of carrot soup: www.food.com/recipe/cream-of-carrot-soup-59155My favorite veggie is anything tossed in olive oil, s&p, and roasted at 400 degrees in the oven till tender. I roast them in large batches and freeze them in freezer bags for a week night meal. Easy to thaw and warm up in the microwave.

I made this soup tonight. It was really good but I made a few changes. I used a bag of kale instead of spinach and I drained the tomatoes and only used half the cream cheese. It is delicious. How do I get it to post just thei link and not the pic?

I made Ham and Cauliflower Casserole au Gratin with leftover spiral ham www.kalynskitchen.com/2012/01/recipe-for-ham-and-cauliflower.htmlI liked it - although truthfully I probably would have liked it more without the ham. My teen picked the ham out and informed me that adding cheese to cauliflower doesn't make it taste better. My 9 y/o wouldn't touch it. DH wasn't home to try it. It made a TON though and I ended up throwing away most of it. Not a make again for us, I don't think

How do I get it to post just thei link and not the pic? That looks so good, in a not-particularly-good-for-the-diet kind of way!! I hope you work out how to post the link as I'd love the recipe. I have to say though, there is no way I'd halve the cream cheese - if anything I'd increase it haha!! I want to try Chicken Picatta soon and hope my family likes capers. I think I read somewhere to rinse them first - no idea if that is common knowledge as I have never cooked with them before. I use capers a fair bit, and I've never rinsed them. Perhaps that's to get rid of any additional saltiness? I love the saltiness of them which is why I've never thought to rinse them. That looks really good. I've always wanted to try making (and eating!) a Key Lime Pie, but you can't get "key limes" here. I have no idea whether it would be as good if I just used the limes we get here.

I posted these on other threads, but thought I'd put them all together here. So far in 2016 I have made: Cranberry Applesauce Family liked it, and as a bonus---it makes the house smell wonderful! I decided to follow a recipe since I tried just adding cranberries to my usual applesauce recipe and it wasn't quite what I was looking for. oops! Another bonus: it freezes well. Baked Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken Family thought it was good. I doubled the sauce and added green onions to the pan and add sesame seeds at the end. I made Asian Style Slaw to serve with it. It was a winner also. I cut the recipe in half, added dried cranberries and toasted almonds, and served the dressing on the side since I wasn't sure if the salad would get soggy or not. Last night I made Green Beans, Chicken, and Potatoes "One Pan Wonder" It was a winner! I only used 1/4 cup butter, added some sliced carrots, and covered it with foil, but otherwise followed the recipe. So far I'm 4 for 4. I've got more new recipes planned for this week. We'll see if my streak continues. Stay tuned......

Today is the 2nd day so maybe it will be better. It tasted salty to me. I also made pumpkin cookies & spaghetti & meatballs. Not new recipes. I keep seeing these quick videos in FB from tasty. I want to make the barbacoa tacos. I just need to find chipotles.

I'm going to try that cranberry applesauce and the one pan chicken. Anything I can make in one pan or the crockpot is worth trying.

I tried three new recipes last week.
1. First was Slow-Cooker Spicy Black Bean Soup from allrecipes.com. It was ok, but I think the spices need quite a bit of tweaking -- something was "off" about the taste, and I'm not sure what. So I'll probably try this one again in future. 2. Second, I made Asian Orange Chicken and served it over rice. This was kind of my own recipe, using bits and pieces of a couple of recipes I found online. This was a pretty big hit, and I would make it again. 3. Third, yesterday I made a slow-cooker version of Chicken Tortilla Soup, also from (I think) allrecipes.com. It was pretty good, but as I mentioned in the dinner thread, I have to make Chicken Tortilla Soup for our January birthday lunch at work, so I might try at least one more version at home before then. Someone linked to PW's version, which is also made in a slow-cooker, so I might try that one next.

1. --------------------------------------- So you poach the egg wrapped IN the cling wrap?? I'm not sure I like that idea.

I'm not sure I like that idea. That's so funny -- I *loved* that idea. I came out of that post thinking, "OMG, I must try that!!!" Granted, I have never once successfully poached an egg in open water (or water with a teaspoon of vinegar). I got an egg poaching pan with four little cups to hold the eggs, but the cups are made out of some kind of noxious plastic that makes the eggs taste plastic. I love poached eggs and would love to eat them, like, all the time. Saran Wrap to the rescue! Then again, I went to an after-wedding brunch where the bride was putting together "omelets" in ziploc baggies, and those turned out fine, so maybe I'm just weird?
