So I didn't really pay attention and was completely lost at the end.
Do they both believe they raised the boy?

I'm just so thrilled to have it back. We were avid fans the first time around. I'm pleased with it so far, despite some minor issues. The original series had episodes that ranged from mediocre to brilliant and think series will too. This is exactly how I feel about this mini series so far. I'm loving it.

I love having the show back on. If I made a list of my ten favorite shows of all times, The X-Files would be on it. I was skeptical what it would be like--it's hard to make that kind of magic again--but I was actually pretty pleased. I did not notice Scully's hair looking bad. It was a little hard to see the changes in Mulder; I had such a crush on him back in the day. I like Mulder more when he's more assured and witty. I missed that about him this time around.

ITA. When the episode (I've only seen the first one so far) got into full swing, I said to my dh "I wonder if this whole 6-episode run is going to be about the alien stuff)." My dh said "I wouldn't mind it if it was; that was always my favorite part." I looked at him shocked! How did I not know this? I thought we both felt the same way--it's ALL about the monsters! I love the sewer parasite; Tooms, who hibernated every 30 years and could slip through the smallest cracks; the bark creatures that could completely camouflage themselves; the cancer-eating mutant; and of course that inbred family from the Home episode (shudders). When a round of alien episodes came on, I almost wanted to take a nap.
It does look like there will be some monsters this round--right?

Honestly I have never forgotten Tooms. He may have been their creepiest character.

"Home" Wow, now that episode was kind of horrifying. To say nothing of typical X-Files doodling around with reality. That mom had been having babies for most of the 20th century, if I recall correctly. Also gotta love the time Scully performed CPR on someone who was merely unconscious (but breathing fine) in one of the early episodes. bahahahahaha

The Host, Arcadia, and Tooms are my favorites from the old series. Now I want to research the old shows on Prime or Netflix. Need some good binge watching between class assignments.

"Home" still turns my stomach! (and don't forget about Chaco Chicken; yum!!) One of my favorites is the episode with the parasite / mutant leech guy who hung out in the port-a-potties... some of the monster-of-the-week episodes made me laugh, but in a good way!
I've just been reading the Wikipedia articles for the different seasons' plot synopses (is that the plural for synopsis?) and I had forgotten about the whole Syndicate (shadow) group, so the monologue in the first episode about world leaders controlling society, manufacturing, wars, and the environment for their own ends does make more sense now. It also makes me want to get the series on DVD to re-watch them all from the beginning!
I still don't know if they would consent to doing more episodes, no matter how much we fans might want them- Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny both have successful careers post-X-Files. (Unless they try to introduce other main characters, which would just be WRONG.)

The Fluke episode set back DS potty training for quite a while.

O.m.g. Tonight's episode with the comedian from Flight of the Conchords rivals any of the old X-Files. DH and I LOLd a number of times.
The tombstones in the graveyard are tributes to people who worked on past seasons of X-Files and one of the X-Files movies.
Name of the dog is a reference to Moby Dick - continuing ongoing previous references to Moby Dick.
Mulder's ringtone.
Mulder's red speedos, from a previous episode.
Hotel deskman, in several old X-Files...

I LOVED tonight. Loved it. Once again, however, I'm getting whiplash from Mulder. Beginning: "I'm cynical and ready to give up childish things." Middle: "Oh my Flying Spaghetti Monster, it's a monster and I KNEW IT SCULLY, I KNEW IT!" End: "Whatever. I'll just play the wizened cynic here who doesn't have to prove anything." What the heck is going on with him?

Sarah*H, Mulder believes. He has always believed. He keeps trying to talk himself out of believing. He has the X-Files theme as his ring tone!

Tonight when he threw the dart at the poster and said "do I want to do this for the rest of my life?" I was like, "what, because the last 15 years getting drunk and growing beard scruff in your double wide were more fulfilling?"
I get what they are trying to do with his character and tonight was finally what I have been waiting for in terms of brilliant writing and getting their characters right. It's still trying to cram too much into 6 episodes. Heavens, I hope they all agree to more.

We are HOOKED!!!!! Wishing there were more epis!!!! My Dad is here for a visit, and he did NOT plan to watch with us, but he loves it, too! I also want to watch the old series now! I only watched it sporadically back in the day, and never saw the movies. DH has seen them all, though. I think he might be up for binge-watching the originals again; but if not, I'll watch by myself. I need to check if Netflix streams it. Can't wait for last night's (Feb 1) epi !!!!! DH thinks Scully is too thin & with her raspy voice , he thinks she may be sick. Some of you said her wig is bad.....I think it looks good , and realistic. I swear , IF I could find a wig that looked natural, I'd totally wear one! I get soooo frustrated with trying to make my hair look nice! Mulder's monotone voice bugs me sometimes, but it's fun to see him again! The scenes with that horrible noise hurt my ears, too!!!! I was SURE that our doggies would bark or freak out, but they didn't

I have been kinda bummed about this series so far. First two episodes were ok, then episode 3 about the lizard man was just so so sooo bad. I changed channels in the middle of it and deleted the recording. This was just too dorky and the lines the lizard man was saying, like, "Somehow I knew I needed to wear clothes and get a job and start saving for retirement." The acting was so bad, and it had that 50's plastic monster feel to it.

It's been so long since the original show. Was it cheesy too and I just don't remember?

Last night's episode was definitely supposed to have a "Monster from the Dark Lagoon"/50s monster movie feel to it.
