I think we talked about this one other time but I couldn't find the thread. This is one of the coolest programs but sometimes I feel like we are the only family in the world doing it. I've converted my two best friends as you'll see in one of the pictures. On our trip to Pennsylvania and West Virginia this past summer they kept poking fun at Bronwyn and her "nerd book." By the end of the trip, they had one too. I knew they were jealous. LOL We started Bronwyn's on her very first trip when she was 4 months old. I really, really hope it's something she will enjoy and keep up with as she gets older. I'd have loved for my mom and dad to do one for me. We live in Virginia so I've visited LOTS of historic sites but I don't have the passport stamp to prove it. Please share your pictures, your favorite stamps, or your experience with the program. I'd love to see your passports!
Her very first stamp... Cape Hatteras, OBX January 2015
Flight 93, Shanksville, PA 2015
New recruits! Haper's Ferry, Gettysburg Summer 2015
St. Louis Arch Spring 2015

what cute pictures!! I don't know if I missed this in other threads or not (I do seem to remember someone mentioning it), but this is a really cool idea!! I'll have to look into it; something like this passport program is really a good incentive to visit different parks, for sure!

It really is. It has made us more conscientious of the history surrounding where we are vacationing or visiting, many of the parks are free, and we've learned something new about the area every single time.

What a cool keepsake she'll have as she grows up!
I got them for my son and daughter in law when they got married. They had worked at a resort outside Jackson Hole the summer before they were married and now they live in Tucson. In their spare time, they are avid park and historic site visitors.

I never thought of it as a wedding gift, casii. What a great idea! They can have a record of all their travels together.

(I am a bit embarrassed to say I don't know how many National Park sites are even around us, here... ) This would be a good way to find out about them and go, though!

What a cutie! We love the national parks, but haven't done the passport program. I keep thinking we should, but we haven't gotten around to it.

I'm happy to say I do know only because I'll be visiting there in May as we talked about in another thread. I won't have time to visit all they places I'd like to get a stamp since I rarely make it off the east coast. I probably won't get Bronwyn's book stamped because she won't be with me but I may just get the stamp on a piece of paper and put it in the back of her book. Then she can decide later if she wants to keep it our not.

Very cool program - wish I'd known about it 15 years ago .

I know what you mean, bc2ca. I think that's why my friend Carrie hesitated because she had been to so many places already. But she did decide to do it. She said in another 20 years I'll wish I had started today. And I said it will give her a reason to revisit some of her favorite places. Any excuse to travel is a good excuse in my world.

I only found out about this a few years ago and I am so disappointed I didn't know sooner. We have been to 31 national parks and have not kept track of the other sites managed by the NPS that we have visited. I do have a National Parks scrapbook, though. We took our dgd here last summer:

We do this, too! I'm hoping to start one for our new grandson, but the older one has always come on vacations with us and his is chock full of stamps! He's 16 now and likes to pretend he's "over it", but he still looks for the stamp every time we're at a NPS location . We also collected Jr. Ranger badges for him and he LOVED earning those. Especially the Secret Service one at the Eisenhower Farm in Gettysburg.

That is a great program, and I wasn't aware of it either. Those are great pictures! Thank you for sharing, that last one is just too cute.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, elaynef. That's an impressive number of parks. Have you ever made it to Washington, D.C.? I don't know how many cancellation stations there are at all the different landmarks but I know it's a lot. We couldn't get them all in one trip.
My husband and I joke about it because the 7th graders in our county take a trip to Washington D.C. every year. When our baby gets in school I can just see her rolling her eyes at me when she goes on the field trips and I send her with her book.

Thank you. Funny you mention the last one... that's the first picture I took of her where she looked more like a big girl/ toddler to me than a little baby.

I'm so glad to hear he still looks for the stamp even though he's too old/ cool for that now. I will be looking into the Jr. Ranger badges in a couple of years when she is old enough to participate.

Different program, but did you know that all fourth graders (and their families) get a pass to National Parks this school year (2015-2016)? I had no idea. I was having lunch with coworkers the other day and one with a daughter in fourth grade was telling us about it. She was trying to plot some trips. Every Kid in a Park Bronwyn will be totally ahead of the game!

pierkiss - I know, right? I don't think the program is promoted well enough. I just happened to stumble upon the book in the gift shop at Cape Hatteras. I was in the right place at the right time because it was our daughter's first trip. We actually left the gift shop and were back in the car when I told my husband I needed to go back in and get the book. I'm really committed to it (unlike her baby book) and I take pictures of her with the book and with her dad at every stop.
chendra - I did not know that but how wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this. I/we have visited several parks, and once we crossed over into that Elder age, we have a pass for admission to the parks, but I have never been made aware of this program before.

We have never gotten one of the passport books, but my DH always stamps the map/brochure of the park and we keep those. Your daughter is adorable.

We keep forgetting to take ours with us! It just occurred to me as I was typing that sentence to keep them in the car. We've visited quite a few without our passports. Makes me so mad at myself.
