Hi....I'm new here.
I'm moving my craft room to a different level in our house and before I do so I am going to do a massive purge. Wondering if anyone has purged specific supplies/tools and regretted it later?
I have way too much stuff but I'm afraid I will get rid of something I want to use later lol.

I have purged multiple times recently. I started as a scrapper, got into stamping, purged a lot of the scrap stuff, took some time to learn my stamping style and so then had a bunch of stamping stuff to purge that I realized I didn't like to work with...
There is only one stamp set I've gotten rid of that I kind of sort of would like to work with again.
I can barely remember the things I don't have anymore.

I purged a bunch of stuff when I redid my scraproom last year. Sorted into "never" and "maybe". Ended up keeping most of the "maybe's" when I went through them again, because I had room for them.
Have had a couple of blips where I find myself looking for a particular paper I used to have, and then realizing I must have given it away. (Sometimes after giving up the search, that paper magically reappears in my stash...)
I kept most of my tools, all of my stamps and dies. Mostly what I purged was paper and stickers. Probably kept too many cb elements, because now that they are hidden away in the cupboard I hardly ever use any, and probably would never miss them. Same goes for ribbon and flowers, but I like the IDEA of using them (even if I seldom do) so I continue to keep them around.
Good luck with your move!

I got rid of about 1000 sheets of 12x12 paper about 18 months ago, along with about 400 sheets of 6x6 and a pile of stickers. I've never missed a single piece. I teach a papercrafts class every week, and I donated it all to the class. So even though I can still access the stuff if I need to, I've never ever needed to!

First of all, welcome!!!
I have purged massive amounts of patterned paper (both 12x12 and 6x6) and card stock. Gone are all of my buttons, most of my ribbon (I kept my twine), all eyelets, all brads, all flowers, all corner punches and most border punches (I kept a few borders along with basic shapes - circle, star, tags, etc.), many sets of ink pads, stamps that were not my style, chipboard shapes and alphas, and many old tools (decorative scissors, tearing rulers, eyelet setters, paper trimmers that didn't cut straight, etc.).
I haven't missed a single thing. I think the key was knowing my style and what I would use in the future.

I have never regretted getting rid of paper and embelishments. I do, however, really wish I hadn't sold my Big Shot machine and all my die cutters when I bought my silhouette! I have seen so many cute dies that I would like to have but I don't think I will ever buy a manual die cutter again.

If you want to purge but just aren't *SURE* sure, put the stuff in a box and put the box in an out of the way place for six months. If you end up never going back into that box, you can probably live without whatever is in there just fine. My rule of thumb is to never get rid of tools because they can always be used for school projects and other things down the road, but other stuff is all fair game.

I've only regretted a couple of bigger items - my old Cricut (because it was handy to have cartridges and not have to start up my computer) and my little red die cutter (forgot the name). But the little stuff (papers, stickers, etc.), nope.

And usually I just competely forget about the stuff packed away

Welcome to the board!
I have never regretted purging anything scrap related. The only item I've ever regretted was a jacket but that's not a crafty item! I just donated 312 sheets of 12x12 paper to my daughters' art teacher. She loved it. I could not believe how happy it made her. In return it made me happy!

I purged when we moved last summer and haven't missed a thing. I've been scrapping since the late 90s, and had things in my craft room that really needed to go, but even the things (like some punches that I liked) that weren't horrible but that were taking up space and didn't, you know, "spark joy", I sent out and haven't regretted giving away.

Welcome CitygirlI purge constantly. I have a box that I place things in that I no longer love or that came in set and I know I'll never use. I've never regretted anything. There is always a cute new line coming along! If it's a tool or stamp you're not using, let it go. It's just in the way of the awesome stuff.

Thanks everyone. Good to know there are not many regrets. I'm trying to be ruthless. I've never actually done a purge before so there is just So Much Stuff lol.
Tracie I love your podcast!

Welcome to the boards, Noel. I'm looking forward to getting to know you through your posts.
I haven't done any purges yet because I tend to be a cautious buyer and stick mostly to traditional supplies.

Welcome!
I've done several purges... Seems like every time we move I do one before packing and usually as I'm unpacking as well. This last time we bought a smaller house in a more expensive city, so I really had to downsize my scrap stuff. I was ruthless. And there's only been one thing I sort of regret, but it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things!

I might have wished I had kept something here and there, but so what? I just got over it and figured out how to solve the problem - use something different or buy it again.

I haven't regretted anything I purged. It's mostly been paper and stickers that I know I won't use. I do have some larger things that I need to get rid of because I haven't used them in years. I have an original baby Cricut and a small Sizzix die-cutter. I'm not sure if I want to take them to Goodwill or try to donate to the elementary school.

I do mini purges every 1-2 years. I am very very selective about what I get rid of. I pass it on to my DD's BFF! I won't get rid of things I just loved, if I still use it occasionally, or think I may sometime use it etc. I don't typically get rid of tools. I worry that since this hobby is slowing down I won't be able to replace things so easily! I still miss quite a few manufactures no longer in business. I know I'm more cautious that most people here!

I Did a recent purge, with the last 3-4 weeks and was worried I might change my mind too.
What I did was go through a stack/section paper and I pulled out any thing that I was 80% certain I wouldn't use. I also asked myself if I could actually see that sheet on a layout or a specific project I KNEW I was going to do. If the answer was "no" then not matter how pretty it was I put it with the donate papers in large shopping bag.
I did this for each paper folder I had over three or so days. (I might only do one or two a day.) I wanted to take my time so I really thought about what I kept and didn't get in a hurry and keep stuff I wasn't really going to use out of habit. I waited another three or so days and then went through each paper holder again. The second time, all those things I was on the fence about it was so much easier to put in the donate bag and I got rid of a lot more in the second pass. It took little longer, but I felt like it was easier to let go things that really needed to go.
That other thing I did that helped me was I put my donate bags in a corner/closet and waited a week or so before I did anything with it. I think there was only one thing I changed my mind about. The rest I donated last week and I don't miss any of it.
Hope this helps

Welcome!
I have purged large amounts of paper over the years, andhave never regretted it at all. Same goes for the embellishments I habe donated to the kids' school. The only thing I have ever regretted, was my Maddie Anne alphabet from Quickutz.

I actually know my style and love my supplies, but I went purge crazy when we moved and I got rid of the old red sizzix machine and several of the massive amounts of alphabets for it.
I kinda wish I had held onto all the alphabets for use with thick things like felt.
Otherwise, I've never regretted getting rid of things that I don't feel super happy about and are not my style.

I like mehardy's idea of going through paper pads and stacks and pulling out the papers you know you won't use. That's a great way to make room in your stash!

nope! I need to purge again! I belong to several kit clubs and sometimes what they send me is not my style. I usually purge and sell in a garage sale at my local scrapbooking store.

I am a major purger and am down to only a mini-stash at this point. That makes me happy because it works for me. In the past, I quit scrapping completely and got rid of almost everything. The only thing I "regretted" and bought again when I went back to scrapping was the embossing heat gun. But with a 40% off coupon, it really wasn't a big deal to buy it again. If I have things I like but haven't used in forever and feel like I *might* use it, but sense I really won't (haha), I make a separate pile of those things. The next time I scrap, I tell myself I have to work on using those specific things. If I just can't find a way to use them, then that means they have to go. After all these years, I know what I will and will not use. I also know I tire of things quickly. I am the same way with clothes. So I buy less, keep less, and use the dickens out of what I do have. Then I can get new stuff I really like again when I need it. Welcome to the board!
