I have to say, I've been spending the last few minutes watching videos of Chris Martin of Coldplay and actress Jennifer Garner being interviewed, and was just thinking to myself how much they appear to be the most contagiously optimistic happy sounding people, it's really enjoyable to watch talk shows when they are guests. Chris Martin was asked what was his secret, how he stays so happy and he said he does the 12 minute purge writing technique first thing in the morning where he freeform writes all the things he's upset or angry about and then at the end of that time rips it up and throws it away, and then goes on with his day. I feel like I am going to start either doing that - either that or just spend a few minutes watching him or other funny things each day. Especially his carpool karaoke with James Corden - if that doesn't make you laugh I don't know what would! And in hindsight I am feeling like now that Jennifer Garner and Chris Martin are both single maybe they should be a couple together.

I always start my day with a cup of coffee and quiet. I get up before the rest of my house and enjoy the quiet. I also do a kickboxing boot camp class before work, so that gets out all of my aggression before the day starts!

I wake up and immediately drink two bottles of water while I woke in my gratitude journal and write down my top 3 goals for the day.

I am not a morning person. If I wrote down a "purge" of my morning negative thoughts, they would amount to:
"Hate the morning."
Over and over and over.

I get up an hour before anyone else in my family so that I can have alone time in the morning ... so that means about 5 am ... I don't love it but we do what we gotta do I take my meds, make dd#2's lunch, make dh's coffee and my tea ... Then I hit my e-mail, Facebook, the Refugees, my meetup.com website and Pinterest I lead an exciting life

Morning routine:
get out of bed pee sneak past my 6 year old's bedroom and hope he doesn't wake up go downstairs find the 6 year old is already up and into something head to coffee maker try to check my email and read the news while being talked to non-stop by my 6 year old wake the rest of my kids up
On the mornings I actually do get up before my 6 year old it is really tempting to let him sleep, who needs school...

I'm usually always up by 5:00 and dh doesn't get up till 6:00. When my kids were home they weren't up at 5:00 either, believe me. lol. So I enjoy my time alone. The dog gets up with me and comes out of the bedroom when I do but then goes back to sleep on the couch, so even she doesn't bother me.
I drink coffee, turn on the news, then catch up on Facebook, the Peas, online news, email, etc.

I crawl into bed with my daughter and hug her awake. She's 14 and I have been waking her up like this every day since she started school. She has an alarm (that is set to before I wake her up) but she waits until I come in before she gets out of bed. It's the best way to start a day.

I head downstairs, thru the dining room (now known as my greenhouse room) and say good morning to my seedlings and my worms (hey, my Shihz died, gotta get the love where I can - don't judge!) I head to the coffeemaker in the kitchen, hit the button on it and go water the first tray of seedlings while the coffeemaker gets started. I go back and forth, between my coffee routine and watering my plants, until both are done. coffee in hand, I head to my office to sit in front of the computer and hit my favorite websites - 2Peas, One Hundred Dollars a Month, Facebook - and sip my coffee.

I am without question a morning person. I am one of those people who rolls out of bed happy and chatting with whomever crosses my path be it human or feline. I drink my coffee, I wake up those that need it, I make breakfast for those that want it, I kiss good bye those who should start their day off knowing that they are loved.
But I have no set routine that makes me this way. I think it is just personality more than anything else for me. My mom swears that I this way from babyhood too-waking up happy and smiling and that even in the dreaded teen years when I was a true and righteous pain in the ass I woke up easily and probably the most unasspain-like of the day.

I spend the first 15 minutes trying to figure out why my alarm clock chooses its own time. I brush teeth, start shower and all that nonsense. I let my hair stay up in a towel while I get breakfast and lunch packed. Start car and leave. I do this all in about 20 minutes. I am not a morning person so I will prepare everything the night before so that I can just go from one thing to the next in the morning.

Coffee. Walk dogs. Coffee. Shower. One last cup of coffee to take to work with me.
If I started every day with a stream of negativity, written or otherwise, I'd never get past the coffee stage - I'd just go back to bed. I'm not good at dredging stuff up and then just setting it aside. I tend to dwell and seethe.

Up at 5. Brush teeth, then take the dog for a quick 15 minute walk, then hop in the shower. Once I'm showered, and make up quickly applied, I get dressed and head downstairs.
DH has emptied the dishwasher by this time and made my coffee. I make our smoothies for breakfast while he showers, then spend about half an hour drinking smoothies and coffee, and checking emails and Refu-peaing.
Then it's time to leave for work. We pick up DS's girlfriend on the way and head into the city. 3 days per week, we drop the dog off at doggy daycare before heading into the city.

Used to be pee, then run at 5.30am. I'm on a different training plan now, so it's pee, coffee, breakfast, chores, more coffee.

Get out of bed, make coffee, zone out and frown, get stuff together for the school day, pout that it's morning. I'm not a morning person and I don't plan or need to change that.

Hit snooze. Hit snooze again. Growl a bit. Consider if it's a hair washin day, if no then possibly hit snooze again. Meander to the shower. Realize I didn't have time for a 3rd snooze. Rush out of the shower. Wake the kids. Help youngest get ready, pack his lunch. Drive the kids to school. Think about how I really should get up earlier so I have a little peace before craziness ensues. Repeat the next day. I require at least 8 hours of sleep a night, I wish I didn't but I do so short of falling asleep by 9, I can't get up earlier.

I would not want to focus on negative things first thing in the AM. ..even if he then throws it away, it has put the negative things out there first thing.
I'd be more impressed if the list were things that brought the man joy in his life.
For me: cup of hot tea while husband and I watch the morning news. Then breakfast and whatever the day holds...........

I wake up, after cussing at my alarm for 2 minutes, and proceed to zombie walk to the bathroom. I can appreciate people who doing positive things right after waking, but I am literally not concious enough for at least the first hour or more after waking to do anything other than haul my big butt into the shower. A few cups of coffee and an energy later you might get a smile from me. Might!

I stager into the kitchen where my hubs has coffee made. I hug and kiss on him until I am awake enough to pour my cup of coffee. By then he is usually cracking me up with all his funny observations on life that he has been waiting for an hour to tell me. Then I hit the couch, fire up my iPad, email my friend and then read this board.

I drink about a gallon of coffee while nursing the baby and watching whatever is on the ID Network at that hour. Make of this what you will.
