poop or pee? I just saw papercrafting mention her poodle's 'business'. I had a mental image of her saying, "Do your business, Sophie!" I remember a movie with a man sternly commanding his dog to "MAKE!" in Central Park. Was it Tom Hanks? We say 'dogpot'. I got the word from a friend's mom growing up when she had a pack of poodles and she'd say 'Dogpot, girls!' Sometimes it's 'go dogpot!', more often it's just "dogpot"

I say "go pee!" I have no idea how they know what I expect when I say it, but they do.

I just say 'go potty'. I was housebreaking a puppy and DS at the same time, using two different words would have confused me more them.

hahaha, I don't know why, but I'm finding this thread very funny. FTR, our pup was 2 and well trained when we got her so all we do is take her for a walk and she takes care of everything on her own. No prompting or instructions needed .

No prompting or instructions needed . Same. It helps! Sometimes Mabel just runs out the dog door and stands on the stairs, like she's waiting a certain amount of time to fool me into thinking she's 'done her business'. I can sternly say "dogpot" to her, through the sliding glass door, and she'll trot on over to the grass and squat.

Ummmm ... I don't join them when going to the bathroom.
I just open the door. They go out. Do their business. And return to the door when it's complete.

I say "go potty". So does dh, and everyone else at our house of course but it's funny to hear big old gruff looking dh tell the dog in a happy voice to go potty!
Dogs like happy voice. I have only had dogs with zero house experience so housebreaking is an important crucial first thing, so happy voice, cute words, make a big deal- we do it all. I don't care if it sounds stupid, at least my Great Pyrenees with the basketball sized bladder is peeing outdoors!

I tell them 'go potty'. They don't listen to me for anything.
Dh can make them do whatever he wants when he wants. He has a way with dogs, though. His friend has a greyhound. Dh can get her to go on command. The friend can't get her to do anything. LOL!

I tell them to go pottie'--with the accent on the last syllable--sounds fancier lol. (poteee)
They can be in a deep sleep and I ask them if they want to go pottie' and they are at the door in a half a second.
But they probably just want to chase squirrels.

To pee, I say lets pee and move on (usually on a walk) For pooping--Ozzy it is do you business. And for Jax we call it a peeker or sneaky pete (he will be pooping as he is running around looking for a spot)

I tell him to finish up his business.
If I'm really frustrated I'll say can you poop already.
He knows darn well what I expect he is not stupid.
When I went back to work he 'protested' by not pooping in the morning. I ended up giving him treats if he went before I left for work. DH works from home usually but not always so the dog needs to get his act together. Once he realized that I WOULD go to work if he didn't poop and he would get a treat if he did the 'protest' was over.

Go potty. She knows what it is too. I've watched her fake pee before so she could get on with the business of sniffing things and looking for squirrels. I didn't let her fool me though.

We use go potty as well. I actually wanted to have to trained to the word because I don't want to be standing outside in 10 degree weather waiting for her to get the job done. She's small enough there are places on our back fence she can fit through so we can't let her out on her own. If she needs to go out, we have to go with her.

He goes without encouragement, but when I want him to walk on ahead of me, I say "go ahea" in a very nice tone. He's a tiny, fearful thing and I have to be very soft spoken so as not to frighten him. (He weighs 8 lbs)

Go potty. I've used it since we got her. To poop, I have to get a plastic bag and walk her down the block. She'll go if she has to. She rings a bell if she needs to go out any other time.

That's what we use too.
When I was a child my brothers coined the phrase "want to have a bunga" and that ment "do you need to go poop?" No clue where that came from but they still both use it with their dogs.

I say a combination of a couple things-- our dogs got used to 'go poopies' and 'go piddle' but then we adopted an older dog and she was used to 'go potty potty' so now, I cover ALL the bases and say, 'go potty potty poopies' and 'go potty potty piddle' lol!! My sister tells her dog to 'do a little one' for peeing, and to 'do a big one' for pooping. ETA: our Shelties are VERY easily distracted when they go outside so I need to remind them of why we're really outside-- that's why we use the 'code' words. Otherwise they'd go snurfling around smelling every interesting smell they could find, watching birds, eating grass, etc. and never actually DO their business. Our dogs have to be supervised while they're out there too, otherwise they'd never go.
