First I want to say Sam Elliott is my old man crush... lol
Anyways, I knew nothing about this series.. saw it as a promotion on Netflix a couple of days ago.. the only things that stood out to me was it was about cowboys and Sam Elliott was in it. I figured it was a drama...... well it's not really.. and I really don't know what to think..... I think I went in thinking it was going to be a good drama series (something like SE cowboy movies) but it wasn't. Anyone else??

I've not heard of it. If it isn't a drama, what kind of show is it?

Well I don't know.. I guess a comedy with A LOT of drama scenes... Aston Kutcher is in it as well. I normally don't even realize when shows have a laugh track.. but this one does and first time it came on.. I was like WHAT the heck??? It really annoyed me for some reason. I think because I was not expecting it...

I only saw one episode last night but I think I liked it. Like you say, it's not quite a comedy, not quite a drama. I don't know what genre it fits in. (Dh watched a couple more episodes after I went to bed and he said he liked it alright... Which is high praise.) I'm not sure I can get over Kutcher and Danny Mastersin not being Kelso and Hyde. My mom loves Sam Elliot too. I met him a few years ago and casually mentioned it to my mom, not knowing that she liked him and she Elaine Benes shoved me into a wall. . He was a very friendly guy.

I saw an ad and commercial on FB for it. I don't think it could be anything but a comedy with Ashton in it? It never occurred to me it would be a drama.

I didn't realize Ashton was in it.. so just assumed it was a drama.. even the beginning credits don't fit the comedy.. but that was the mindset I was in I guess. oh yeah if I ever meet Sam I would be over the moon.. the man is as old as my mom....lol...

We've been watching it. I wouldn't have thought it was anything but a sitcom. Definitely not a drama.
I won't bet on it, but I think it even has a laugh track.

I tried the first episode but didn't make it all the way through. Just not what I was expecting. Everyone was stiff etc. Granted first episodes are usually pretty uncomfortable lol but this was more than that. I really wasn't expecting an F bomb either. So for those who haven't watched you have been warned I prefer my swearing to be a little more creatively used

I've only seen 1 episode. I thought it was kind of lame and I love Sam Elliot. Not sure I'll watch any more.

I just happened to come across it on Friday and thought the same as you. I wasn't crazy about it but did watch two more episodes last night and I like it better. It made me laugh out loud a few times, which I don't do often.

That's the show with the laugh track, right? Couldn't get past the first few minutes.

It was created by the same guys that created That 70's Show. The laugh track is a little obnoxious and the humor is pretty raunchy but overall I enjoyed it. I found myself chuckling quite a bit. Per usual with these shows, I rolled my eyes at Hollywood's idea of ranching (any scene with an actual cow wasn't realistic). But they got a lot of the terminology right and the depiction of sports and small town life was good. They even got the conservative mindset of some farmers and ranchers accurate. Minus the F bomb, there were a lot of things I've heard my own family say (I grew up on a small ranch in Montana).
For those interested, the premise is about a quarterback (Kutcher) who comes home after 15 years of trying to make it in the NFL. His father (Elliot) and brother (Masterson) are running the family ranch but are in financial trouble. His mother (Debra Winger) owns the local bar. The parents are estranged. He decides to stay and help his father and brother run the ranch. Mostly comedic but there's lots of drama with the family relationships.

I heard about it but haven't watched yet. I always had a crush on Sam Elliott until he was on Justified...without his moustache...and he looked awful! I coul not get past it!

I just binge-watched it over the last week and thought it was funny in a juvenile way (brothers always hitting each other in the privates, making sarcastic comments to each other, etc.). Sam Eliot's character has some funny lines, such as questioning whether Almond Milk really is milk ("show me the tit on an almond"). He reminds me so much of my Grandpa and Great Uncles, all ranchers.
It definitely isn't cerebral comedy but it was fun.

Looks like another one to add to my watch list! Anxiously awaiting for Hell on Wheels in June on AMC! Got hooked on that!

I watched several and disliked the juvenile humor. Stopped watching when there was no depth to the characters.

I haven't watched it yet, but my sister did. She really enjoyed it. She said the only things she didn't like was the silly laugh track.

I can't stream video - so I can't watch it at home, but my girls have watched it and they say they get lots of laughs from it, but mostly because they grew up on a stock farm and hoot over some of the not quite true to life situations with the cattle.

We binge-watched it last weekend and really enjoyed it. Definitely raunchy, but also funny. It took a few episodes for the show to get it's groove, but once it did we really enjoyed it.

We watched the first episode last night. The worst, most distracting, most overused laugh track I have ever heard.

I'm on episode 8 now out of I think there's 10 in the series? Defintely gets better and characters evolve, I really like it. It kind of reminds me of the serious episodes or moments of the 70s show - kind of that flavor/feel to it. I definitely like it - if you liked the 70s show I think you would like this, though it's more dramedy than outright all comedy. Kind of this is more drama with a little comedy where 70s show was more comedy with a little drama. (Edited to add it actually gets to be more funny as the shows progress so it's more comedy it's just dry, which is my favorite, not outright slapstick laugh out loud.)

We like it, I love the actors and the snarkiness that they share. The storylines are sweet and for many that is how life is really is.

Tried the first episode and was very disappointed. I'd love any excuse to listen to Sam Elliot talk, but I just can't take that show. The laugh track, Ashton Kutcher, much of the writing, etc.
I know first episodes are always iffy until the cast gets comfy and finds their groove, so I made myself watch one or two more episodes. I just can't do it. Ashton Kutcher is a terrible actor. He was great as Kelso, but after giving him a few tries in other things, I have come to believe that's because he's a real-life Kelso, and he just got very, very lucky with that role.

Well, DH and I binged watched it and it is one of my new favorites (well besides Hell on Wheels!)! So glad to hear it will be back on for 10 more episodes in the fall and picked up again for 2017! The relationship between Sam and the boys are so much like Dh and his Dad it is unreal!
