Well, it's been several weeks since I bought my PictureMate and I thought I'd post an update about how much I love it! Honestly, selling my Selphy and buying this was one of the best scrappy decisions I've made! The print quality is EXCELLENT and I love that it prints 5x7 as well as 4x6. I bought Epson lustre paper and I seriously cannot tell the difference between a picture printed on it and one printed at Costco. I never used to print at home because I hated the fact that the Selphy's print size was smaller than 4x6 and my only paper choice was glossy. Now I have the option of using ANY photo paper I desire! And something else I want to add is that I have not had a single issue with clogging. I printed about 10 photos initially and didn't use it again for over 2 weeks. This past weekend I used it again to print another 10 or so and I had no problem at all. As for the cost per print, yes it's more costly than printing at Costco but for me, the convenience FAR outweighs the cost! Completely worth it for me. If you're sitting on the fence about this printer, my advice is to go for it! You won't be at all disappointed.

Here are some of the reasons why I love the PM-400. It is super convenient. I don't care that I'm paying more per print than at a lab. I've gotten more scrapping done in 4 months than the entire year of 2015. And because this little gem is sitting in my craft room I don't have to go anywhere to pick up the prints or wait for them to be ready. Instant gratification at it's best. It prints a true 4x6 AND 5x7. I thought I could deal with the Selphy's smaller size. But it got to be a pain. The pictures floating around the pockets were aggravating me. Then I mounted them on 4x6 cardstock. That added more work instead of speeding up the scrapping process, which I why I bought a portable printer in the first place. Those silly pieces at each end of the photo that I had to rip off also aggravated me after a while and slowed down my process. A bonus to the PM-400 is that it also prints out 5x7. I really like this size a lot! It looks great on 12x12, 8.5x11 and 6x8 size layouts, imo. I'm really enjoying the ability to use this size in addition to the 4x6. I can print from my iPhone easily. I can also print easily from my laptop. That Selphy software for my laptop drove me nuts. It was very difficult to navigate. Another aggravating feature for me. The PM-400 works great with any software I'm using on my laptop. Epson claims that the photos are good for 200 years. I could not find anything about the Selphy's photo life expectancy. Ali Edwards uses the Picturemate PM-400. If it's good for Ali, it's good for me! You can print directly onto cardstock in the 4x6 and 5x7 sizes. I've used the Picturemate to print onto my project life cards and for a large journaling space for a layout. You can't do that with the Selphy because of it's weird photo paper size set up. I mean, maybe you can, but again another pain in the butt aggravating issue that slows down my process. You can print onto matte or glossy photo paper. You can also buy the paper in bulk to save money. You can buy the ink separately with the PM-400. You can't do those things with the Selphy. I know the Selphy and Picturemate can do similar things. But after having the Selphy for 2 years and the Picturemate for only 4 months, I've printed 3 times as many photos with the PM-400 because of the ease for me. I really wish I had bought the Picturemate in the first place! So there you go. A few reasons why I love the PM-400 over the Selphy. I don't even need a new printer but after reading this I want to go out and buy it, lol! Seriously! ETA: So glad you're happy with it streetscrapper!

I'm not the OP, but I did buy the Epson PictureMate PM-400 Wireless Compact Color Photo Printer, so I hope you don't mind if I chime in. I've had it about 2 months and I *LOVE IT!* I've not been scrapping much, but I've found other uses for it, mostly printing from my iPhone 6. I've been scouring the Internet for Christmas card inspiration and pinning and saving pictures of cards I like. The card photos (I use Pinterest and screen shots) are all on my iPhone and iPad mini. I've started to print out my favorites on plain white 4 x 6 card stock for reference. I'm making my own personally "curated" (ha- love that fancy word) inspiration book. I'm putting the print outs in an inexpensive photo album I've had forever. As for printing photos, my PictureMate is so convenient to have and use. My grandson needed two 5x7 pictures to take to school for a project. His mom (my DD), texted me at 8 pm. On Sunday night. And he needed the pictures Monday morning! She texted me the pictures, I sent them right to my PictureMate and a few minutes later - two beautiful, full color photos! I was so impressed. I wanted to hug that little machine. I'm super happy with the purchase. I should also mention that I printed some pictures when I got it, but didn't print again for over 2 and maybe closer to 3 weeks. I had no problem getting a good print despite the time between printings. I bought my PictureMate from Amazon because they had the best price at the time.

Not at all Restless Spirit! I'm glad you did and just for the record...there is NOTHING wrong with hugging your photo printer! Thanks for your review! Can I ask how much you paid for it on Amazon? It's $199.99 right now.

I am going to get this printer also. I was sold on it after seeing a video by Kelly Purkey. I am still saving my pennies, planning on getting it next month (September). I will probably get it from Amazon as then I can get free 2 day shipping when I use my work Amazon Prime account!!!

It's $199.99 right now. I paid that much on Amazon in January. And I've been watching the price, you know to make sure I shouldn't have waited a while to see if it goes down. It never has, it's always stayed at that price. Go for it!

If I figure out where I bought it , I'll let you know! HTH

Hi everyone. I see that this little printer has created quite a stir again so I wanted to chime in and give you my opinion! This printer is an absolute gem and I honestly cannot say enough about how great it has been for me. I am not someone who has the opportunity to scrap a lot so I was really concerned about the reviews I had read about the heads clogging if you don't use it every week. Well, I have to say that this has not been an issue at all. I was on vacation for two weeks at the beginning of August and didn't print anything until just last week. Absolutely NO issues. Prints were perfect. Something else I read was that the ink cartridge that comes with the printer barely lasts long enough to start it up the first time. Not true. I'm still using that cartridge and I have printed at least 30 pictures (possibly more) in all sizes! The last picture I printed this past weekend looks as good as the first. Quality is awesome. Convenience is just as awesome. And the fact that it prints 5x7 was a huge factor for me. Selling my Selphy and buying this was the best thing I did. The only negative-cost. $199 is a lot to spend and the cost per print is a lot higher than picking up prints at Costco - which is what I used to do. However, that being said, I would never look back. For me, it was money well spent. I highly recommend this printer.

If you don't mind me asking, streetscrapper, where did you buy your PictureMate? I'm also in Canada and Amazon.ca has one for $531 (crazy) or it's $199 on Amazon.com with $40+ shipping. Hoping to find a reasonable domestic seller since I always worry about warranties when you buy electronics in the US to use in Canada. Like others have posted, I HATE the not-quite-4x6 print size of the Selphy.

Came to $235. Shipping was free. It's actually on sale now for the same price. If you sign up for their emails you'll get notices of when ink and paper is on sale. I bought an ink cartridge which I haven't even opened yet and a package of the lustre paper when it was 50% off. I LOVE the lustre paper because I'm not a fan of glossy prints. When I use the lustre paper, I can't tell the difference between a photo printed with my PictureMate or one from a photo lab.

This forum has been a big help. I am leaning towards purchasing the PM-400 and too have concerns regarding clogging issues (read negative reviews on the older model) - sounds like the problem may have been resolved....? Another review I read was with using Photoshop Elements 14 - the printing interface can be a real problem. Has anyone experienced any problems with Photoshop? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I searched for any topics about this printer because I was going to post some questions before I decided if I should buy it, but this pretty much answered all of them. I have some birthday money, and I'm about to order it! Yay! Thanks for all of the info!

Have fun with your PictureMate to all those who have it/plan to get it! Such a shame Epson is not releasing this (so far) in Europe. Oh well. For those who want to keep an eye on the Amazon price of virtually anything Amazon sells, please consider using camelcamelcamel to track tbe price of a given object. You can enter the desired price and leave your email address. They will get back to you when the item's price drops enough to meet your desired price. You are also able to use the website just to follow the change in price of any item that has been registered in their system! It looks like the PictureMate PM-400 dropped to 149.99 for a very short while around December the 1st last year.

streetscrapper I just wanted to say thanks for checking back in with an update now that you've had it for a while. I'm so glad it's still working out for you! My regular full sized Epson all-in-one printer tanked on me a couple months back and yellow ink sprayed all over the inside of the printer. After Googling it to see if there was a DIY fix, I discovered it had been a known issue for a while. Someone uploaded a YouTube video about it and someone else posted a customer service phone number in the comments to call about it. Long story short, I called and they sent me a brand new printer even though the original one was long out of warranty. It seems to have a much nicer print quality than the one it replaced (it's a newer model because the one I had was discontinued), so I'm going to experiment with printing some photos with it on luster paper and see how they look. I'm not unhappy with my Selphy for the most part since I only use it occasionally but it would be nice to be able to print the occasional 5x7 or larger photo from time to time too.

So I may or may not have the PM400 in my Amazon cart. I found the cartridge but am not sure what photo paper I need. I am used to a selphy and its special paper.... Is there a certain paper I need to use with a Picturemate? Or will any do? I prefer matte and see that the ink and paper bundle is glossy so I was going to do the separate ink cartridge. Thanks peas!

I've used Canon, HP, Epson and Kodak paper in my PictureMate. All work beautifully.
These papers were all glossy. I've not used matte paper yet.
