Now it's 50 people dead, more than 50 injured per our mayor. I've been called in to work tonight. Pray for us. Janet Prayers for you and all the medical personnel who are taking care of the many wounded. Yes. You medical professionals are in our prayers. May your presence be a comfort to those you are asked to treat.

Did you read the article? They were married for 2 months, and divorced way back in 2011. Who knows what has gone on since? and really, 2 months of marriage? I'm not sure what point you're attempting to make. That he could have become religious, radicalized since he was married, and honestly in only knowing him for 2 months, does she really know? Sounds like he was beating her so much that how could she get to know him?

When someone who is supposed to love you is beating you up, I'd say that it's a textbook example of someone showing you who/what they are. Instead of criticizing her for 'only being married 2 months,' you should be praising her for getting the hell away from him, and her parents for caring enough to help her out of the situation. But then again, I wouldn't expect someone like you to be able to comprehend that.

To be fair, if I discovered that my spouse was violent and hateful, I probably wouldn't give more than 2 months either. Me too and yes, I read it and yes, I knew they were only married a short time, but his immediate family is also painting a picture of his intolerance. This was an already violent asshole who was the perfect target to be radicalized and his hatred of LGBT community was just an added bonus. Terrorism is terrorism, whether it be committed in a gay nightclub, a church basement or an elementary school.

TMZ is reporting he had permits for everything and some sort of security license. It's also known that he had MULTIPLE explosive devices and possible ties to radicals. This was not your "average" loon with anger issues that bubbled over. This seems well executed (pardon the turn of phrase). Did you see the shot to the cop's helmet? It certainly makes it appear this guy was a crack shot. He clearly had the initiative, tools, and skills, to take down as many people as possible. As much as I am all for people being able to defend themselves, and pissed as hell when this happens when it just makes it easier for gun control people to get their way, I don't think your average civilian with a sidearm was gonna take this guy down easily. OTOH, someone will argue that he'd have been less inclined to shot up a place if he thought a significant number of those inside could fight back. He chose a place full of people he didn't like that were sitting ducks, loud music, alcohol, a crush of people. Maybe he wouldn't have shot it up, maybe if he thought he'd get armed opposition he'd have just blown it up to start with. This was clearly a guy out to kill by any means necessary. I've almost gotten to here, but since this guy was on the governments watch list, how the hell did he get permits and security licenses?

I read about the singer being shot but had no idea who she was. A tv talent show winner? Signing autographs....why was she shot?? I have read several online sources that said it was she was an outspoken Christian. That the man who shot her had written several things ranting to that affect and they have since been removed. In all I have been reading about this Orlanda club shooting I can't seem to find out if the bar was targeted because it was a "gay bar" or was it because it was a popular bar, filled with people, a good target, that happened to be gay. Scary times we live in. ETA I can't seem to remove the word "Save" from my post.Save

Based on a statement by the gunman's father, it sounds as if the club was targeted because it's a gay club.

Another day Another mass shooting ...when are we has a nation do something ? I don't have a lot of hope so probably never. After Sandy Hook failed to generate enough strength to do something, I lost all hope. This is really not the time for this.

Being on the watch list does nothing except perhaps have the purchase noted. It's still altogether legal. I guess it's kind of like "innocent until proven guilty," but...

I hadn't got there yet, but now that you got me looking ahead, it's interesting to see how many people bypassed the gun control sentiment as okay to post at this time, to jump on someone posting in favor of self defense, as not the time.

This is really not the time for this. While I get your sentiment, it's interesting that this is the statement you call out and not Rainbow's "call to arms." IMO: Several people called Rainbow out but not those who posted toward "the other side". Maybe Gia was just evening it out? In reality this could potentially become another huge debate thread about several issues.

In reality this could potentially become another huge debate thread about several issues. This thread is the first I'm hearing the news. My immediate thoughts went to the acts of terrorism in Paris. But here? No. It's all America's fault. It's all because of Rainbow and people like her. What a way to make an incomprehensible act of terror even worse by focusing on people who had nothing to do with it. For the love of all that is good, if you don't want to read Rainbow's posts, PUT HER ON IGNORE. Tagging Rainbow so I'm not talking about her behind her back.

My heart mourns for every life lost and every family whose lives will never be the same.
All the arguing won't solve it or stop it from happening again. Carrying guns, not carrying guns, it's all the same. These discussions give the illusion of the possibility of safety in a world that has never been safe.

They are starting to release the name of the victims. www.cityoforlando.net/blog/victims/The only person to blame is the terrorist, no one else. But it's one thing to say you've lost faith in a system, whatever that system that might be and to thumb your nose and say "nani nani boo boo, if you only did this!" That's where the anger is coming from here.

If y'all are instrested, there is a well known talk radio station out of Orlando that has gathered up some of their more popular radio hosts taking calls from the community-where they are talking through their grief, anger, fear, etc. Listen here: if the link works, you can listen here

To the general you..... If you don't agree with her, STOP READING HER POSTS ON THESE THREADS. If they make you angry, STOP READING HER POSTS ON THESE THREADS. Put her on ignore and only open her posts on threads where she is less apt to annoy you.

I respectfully disagree. There is plenty of blame to go around, including ISIS. And including anyone who has ever dehumanized homosexuals in anyway. ETA: The board is being wonky. I was referring to this quote: The only person to blame is the terrorist, no one else.

Some the nastiness in this thread and all over the internet today is so distressing. What happened yesterday was so incredibly tragic yet here we are pointing fingers and placing blame on people who are completely blameless. There is no damn wonder this country is in the mess it is i. We can no longer have conversations with people that have differing views without calling each other names and acting so self righteous in our own positions.
Do I think that this tragedy could have been prevented if someone in the club was carrying? Nope. Nor do I think that banning guns would have prevented the tragedy either. Crazy ass people do crazy ass things and right at this moment, we have no idea what brand of crazy this guy was. Muslim terrorist or just a fucking lunatic? I have my guesses but that is exactly what they are...guesses based on what information has been released. For now, I will join this in sadness and grief for the horrible events that occurred last night.

Banning assault style weapons could have absolutely prevented it and very definitely decreased the death toll!!! If he couldn't have walked into a store and bought a gun designed to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time, this absolutely could have been prevented. If there were laws that prevented people on the terrorist watch list from buying an assault weapon with a high-capacity magazine, this might have been prevented. Why is that so difficult to comprehend? It took ELEVEN armed police officers to bring this guy down. I don't understand why people are so blinded by their ideology that they lose all common sense!

All I know is the AR15 is the weapon of choice for anyone wanting to commit a mass shooting. Let's see-- one was used at Umpqua Community College, the Colorado movie theater shooting, Sandy Hook, San Bernadino and now at the worst mass shooting in US history. But go ahead-- let's play semantics.
