No. And in our middle school and high school they are against dress code. The middle school principal is a stickler and will ask kids to change for this infraction.

I'm almost 47, I have a couple of pairs. One very similar to the ones @gar posted and another skinny pair with ripped knees. Actually, dh, who's 58, just bought himself a pair, similar to the @gar ones, and he's the least likely person to wear something like that but he loves them and they look good one him. IMHO if paired with the right tops/shirts and shoes they look great. But, I can't stand the crazy ripped all over the place jeans. That's a look I don't get.

Yes and I am 60 but not like the photos in the op, more like vents. The holes in mine are "natural", that is on the knees from skateboarding. That are old and my two favorite pairs. The slight ventilation is nice espespecialy when I am too lazy to go through the leg prep to wear shorts.

I'm not a good enough spreadsheet keeper to know if the same people who thought it catty to judge stilettos at the ball field also find torn or distressed jeans trashy.
In any case, I don't mind distressed denim. The very torn and frayed styles do seem younger to me as I see mostly teens wearing those.
I'm wearing jean shorts today and they have a little distressing on them, two little spots. But considering where I'm going is a cookout on my in-laws' back porch with a bunch of self-described rednecks, my trashy distressed shorts and my t-shirt from Walmart is probably sartorially correct.

I only wear them with stilettos to children's baseball games when I'm trying to snag a fella. That smacks of something...

I don't like the ones with the big giant holes, but the lightly distressed ones don't bother me at all. Particularly since the ones I own are that way because they are older than dirt and the rips/tears are there because of some kind of boneheaded thing that I did. When I was in college I worked in a very eclectic gift shop. My boss didn't care one little bit what we wore, his only guidance was 'no butt shining.' This was back in the 80's during that go 'round of torn jeans and he didn't want the holes in our jeans lining up with any of our 'private parts' or showing our butt cheeks.

I have one pair similar to what @gar posted. I usually wear them rolled up with Chelsea boots or flats and they're super comfy and I think my outfits are cute. (I actually wore them with a tweed Talbot's jacket in our family pictures!) I have never felt trashy in my jeans, and I grew up poor and have a pretty sensitive trashy meter.
One of my girls wears moderately distressed jeans and shorts. She also wears a lot of band Ts and Converse, so it works with her rocker-girl style.
I do not care for the jeans in the OP.

Nope, don't care for that look at all, but hey, whatever floats your boat. I wear jeans all the time, and have a few older pair that are getting faded and have a few minor distress marks. I will wear them because they are comfy. I just don't get paying lots of $$$ for a pair that to me looks like it needs to go in the rag pile.
Dh wears overalls to work on the farm, he says he ought to put his worn out pairs on Craig's List!

I don't wear torn jeans and my teen dd's, who are pretty fashionable, choose not to as well ... Obviously someone is buying them because they keep making them but I also just don't get the appeal

I do wear jeans with a rip in the knee area; not a big torn-open hole as in the picture. They're also kind of worn in the butt area. They feel casual and nice at home or for days when I don't need to be fancy. The big open hole thing looks pretty fake to me.

I have one or two of what would qualify as "slightly frayed." They are comfortable. But I guess I'm just trashy that way.

Before I saw the photos, I was picturing distressed jeans, not jeans with giant holes! My answer is no for both. I'm too fat to pull off that look.

As a lot of people already posted, I wear distressed jeans but not jeans with big gaping holes like the OP posted. And my distressed jeans are skinny jeans. I'm almost 52.

No, I wouldn't wear them. But I only own one pair of jeans and they were given to me by my one sister. Denim wears the skin off my body in places so they are not comfortable apparel for me.
I have seen the fashion come and go over the years and my children wore them. I looked at it this way - if it made them feel different like everyone else - that was okay with me.
Now my dh wears them all the time and always has. Of course, his holes and distressing is all natural with wearing them way past their prime.

My how times have changed. In my youth (long, long ago. Ha), styles like that would have indicated that you were very poor and wearing hand-me-down clothes, or you were just plain sloppy/unkempt.
So no, I would not wear those. Never.

I wouldn't wear the ones in the OP and I don't like the ones in the OP.
Now, that doesn't mean I have any issues at all with someone else wearing them. I don't like to wear orange or brown clothes, either, but that doesn't mean I don't sometimes really love how they look on others.
I do not have any distressed jeans similar to the ones with minimal distressing shown later in the thread, either, but if the jeans fit me well, then I would be okay with wearing those.

I think there is a fine line between distressed and mauled by a lion. I wear distressed, a few torn, worn areas but nothing with a giant hole.

I am 46 and I have distressed jeans and shorts and I wear them frequently. My jeans are more like the pair that gar posted. I do have a pair of shorts that are super shredded by Rag & Bone and I love those too.
I think the OP's examples are cute! I really don't think anyone would call my style of dress trashy, but who knows, maybe I am fooling myself.

I wear jeans that have naturally occurring rips or distressing due to me wearing the heck out of them but I don't buy them that way. I do kind of like the ones that have big rips but then have a different fabric sewn in under that, like lining. I don't own any of those though.

my dd (16) loves them but I won't wear that look. The thing that annoys me though is that the torn jeans are usually way more expensive than the jeans that are all in 1 piece!

I'm 44 and I wear them, but with smaller holes than in the OP. I have a white pair and a pair of blue crops. People are welcome to think I look trashy; I seriously don't care.

I have a couple pair that are slightly distressed similar to the ones Gar posted, but I don't do holes or overly torn/ripped.
I work in the most laid back office EVER. Like "oh you're having a bad day...let me pour you a drink" "come in whenever you're available...we'll make it work" kind of office. If we have a closing, it's assumed we'll dress up slightly but even then it's a polo/khaki kind of environment. One day I had on my distressed jeans with a knit shirt. My boss came in and said "what it's paint the office day? Why didn't you give me a heads up?" It made me smile that really honestly ANYTHING goes in our office but he was *not* impressed with my distressed jeans. lol

I like the look of the minimally distressed ones, but haven't gotten any because I typically wear jeans to work but don't think the tearing would be appropriate. I don't want jeans that I can't wear to work, especially since I am also trying to lose weight and hope they won't fit next year.

Nope. I too was around in the '80's when they were popular and I wore the couple pairs of expensive Guess jeans I owned until they naturally looked that way (not trashed like the ones in the OP, but with holes worn in certain spots), but I never bought any that looked like that to begin with. It doesn't bother me if other people like them, they're just not for me.
I'm already short and fluffy, I don't need to try to rock the worn out clothes look too. LOL, besides I would much rather blend in than stand out these days!

Nope, I've gotten rid of jeans that were nicer than those pictured. I don't wear ripped, torn or overly faded [think stone washed] clothing.
Add to that: I also don't wear paint or bleach splattered clothing.

Only when I wear them so long they fray from use.....when the distress part turns into a hole they get moved to the work jean category...

I wear some like @gar and lainey posted. For me the key is WHERE I wear them. A day at the mall with flats and a boyfriend sweater? YES. To work? NO. Backyard BBQ with a tank and sandals with good friends? YES. Dh's work BBQ? NO.
