I don't care for torn jeans or jeans with lots of distressing.

I love distressed denim and denim with a raw hem but I really dislike the jeans with the gigantic holes. It looks ridiculous. I like a few small holes and/or distressed spots but anything more than that...no thank you.

I can wear jeans to school on Fridays and occasionally other days. Those would not be appropriate for work, nor would the distressed ones although some of those are cute. I prefer my jeans to be acceptable for weekends AND work. I have seen the big torn holes on younger people and they can look okay, but not a look that would be good on me, older and much fatter!

I have one pair of distressed jeans....they are usually reserved for Sunday's when I dont leave the house. I usually pair them with an old concert T-shirt. But when I go out in public I like to look put together and I just really feel at my age that jeans all ripped like that I couldn't pull off...

No. I think they're ugly.
When I was 16 I would wear them torn in the knee and the butt. Of course my mom had a fit and would march me back to my room to change or put long johns on underneath. I would go to school and change out of the long johns in the car before going inside. LOL

I don't care for torn/distressed jeans. I have one pair with a hole in the knee that I will wear hiking, but that hole was earned. I also don't care for jeans with the bright white, heavy stitching and bling on the butt either, so I may just be a boring jeans person.

I saw someone mention " denim with a raw hem" and I decided I needed to weigh in on that, too. I didn't care for it when it was popular in my youth and have never changed my mind. If that ever becomes all the rage, then I'll be hopelessly out of fashion on that one.

I have a few pairs of slightly distressed jeans like those posted by gar and lainey. I wouldn't wear them to the office. I wouldn't wear the ones in the op because I wear jeans to keep warm. I also don't wear sandals and jeans for the same reason. I know many do and it looks great, just never feels right when I try.

I still can't get over the return of high waist jeans. I lived through that in the 70/80s. I always wore 501s because a high waist does me no favors.

I love my distressed jeans! I just bought the white ones from Old Navy, they're the Rockstar ones. These have a cheetah print fabric underneath the rips.

I don't buy them distressed, but I will wear my favorite pair to the point of them getting worn in the knees. Then I must mourn.

Me, no. Even my dog/camping jeans don't have holes in them.
17 yr old dd has one or two pair of slightly distressed jeans, but she doesn't like the large holes either.

I was glad to see that trend die down. Low rise pants don't stay up on me, and trust me no one wants to see my almost 50 year old muffin top.

I have slightly distressed white jeans. I bought them because they are so flattering.
Annabella you are adorable!

I wouldn't, and I don't get the appeal. Soft denim and 'worn' so they're comfortable, yes, but torn with ragged holes in?? You're paying more for the privilege to have them NOT last as long as they otherwise would, and to look like a hobo or like you got caught in a barbed wire fence?? Nope. My boyfriend's boss (who is in his mid-70s) wears cat-whiskered jeans every once in a while, and just the thought of that makes me laugh-- his wife must have bought them for him! (I hope, anyway!!) eta: I do like the look of torn jeans that are stitched with other fabric behind, like some of these, from pinterest... but I wouldn't wear them for work, or anything like that: mended hobo jeans, needleweaving, Sashiko denim repair, interesting stitch, cute knee mending in these jeans.

No, I don't wear them.
My boys think it's okay to wear khakis with a hole in the knee to school, but it's NOT. If I were to wear holey pants, they would cry, "Hypocrite!"
DD and I recently went shopping for shorts, and she was horrified that every.last.pair of denim shorts had pre-made holes. We didn't buy any.

Both the choices annabella made look great on her. Those two particular outfits are noteworthy because the "worn" jeans are offset by more glamorous tops and shoes. I think the juxtaposition is what works.

I think the juxtaposition is what works. That's what I think too. Very distressed or holey jeans with a baggy, faded, marked top and shoes that are past their best might look a bit 'trashy' but with the right shoes and nice top I think it's a great look

Nope. If I was 32 instead of 42 I might wear the ones with mild tears, but nothing like those pics. I do however, have a seriously old pair of jeans with a rip in the knee that *I* put there squatting down because I refused to believe they don't fit me anymore, does that count? I still have them, but wear them for yard work or painting or that sort of thing in the fall/winter. But I'm betting when I put them on this fall they won't get over my thighs. <sigh>

I recently bought a pair of jeans shorts with a 3 in by 3 in patch that is purposely ripped. The only reason I got them is because otherwise they looked nice, the price was good, and I was so so sick of looking for decent shorts for my big butt. My brain still won't let me wear them to work though they would be perfectly fine.

I have a pair that are distressed, but not ripped like the OP's image. But, the other day I saw a girl wearing a pair that she had cut like booty shorts, but not all the way. Trying to describe...the cut was started by the crotch area & went around the leg on the out side just to the butt crack area. So basically she had her ass cheeks showing & then the leg of the pants were still attached. So freakin' weird. Not sure what fashion statement she was trying to make.

I wear some like @gar and lainey posted. For me the key is WHERE I wear them. A day at the mall with flats and a boyfriend sweater? YES. To work? NO. Backyard BBQ with a tank and sandals with good friends? YES. Dh's work BBQ? NO. I agree on the 'where'. I have one pair that is more than what @gar posted, but less than the OP. I wear them in casual, friend situations. I wouldn't wear them to lunch with grandma or to work or anything like that. I do care about dressing appropriate for the location/situation. I don't care what strangers at the mall think about what I'm wearing.
