not legal here, but that doesn't stop people from setting them off. Someone was setting them off down the street last night

Legal here (South Carolina). I wish they weren't, but it wouldn't matter. People would do it anyway.

Generally yes but it's against the HOA bylaws...not that anyone pays attention.
We don't shoot them but we do enjoy watching the neighbors shoot them over the lake.

Illegal here but you wouldn't know it based on all the pops and booms I'm hearing in the area. It has been dry here for quite some time so I'm worried about the fire potential more than anything. Luckily the two new kittens we brought home today seem unfazed by it!

Fireworks are illegal in our county except for one city [the one closest to me] and they are supposed to be only the "safe & sane" version and they only sold them yesterday and today. HOWEVER, people have been setting them off for the past few weeks. We can see them and they are huge. I don't think they are safe or sane.
There is another city in our county who puts on a fireworks show every year. This is city/community event and it's supposed to keep people from doing it illegally.

They are illegal in my county, but they are not in some of the cities in the next county. So, people just go up there and get them. Not sure when the stands open for business, but they are only sold for Independence Day, not year-round. They make me nervous because of the drought and the fact that I live near some hills.

Nope. But, my backyard neighbors are putting on one heck of a show again this year.

Wisconsin fireworks lawsBelow is the part that gets me. We have huge tent vendors all over the place. But if you live here you cannot buy most. (just the little stuff) But they can sell it here to out of state residents. 'Cuz of course all those tourists and summer residents definately wouldn't take it to their lake house/vacation spot and light them off. (as I hear boom, boom, boom outside for the past week or more) bottom of page 3... Fireworks vendors rather than only wholesalers or jobbers are now permitted to sellfireworks to a person who is not a resident of this state. Wis. Stat. § 167.10(2)(bg).
We have been known to light off some. But only when it's not dry and we have no real neighbors. We live over 1/2 mile off road in the middle of nowhere/fields.

Mostly illegal in NY, except that some counties allow sparklers and small ground fireworks around July 4th and New Years. Everything is illegal in my county but that hasn't stopped people in my neighborhood from setting them off for the past couple of days. It's making me nervous because our lawns are so dry right now.

No and no. They must be legal outside the city limits because we hear them in the apartment complexes nearby, and they get them somewhere, but I have no desire to set off fireworks.

I thought it was illegal because it's not allowed here in my urban area ... you could be right that they are available and legal in rural areas

Legal here. People have great fireworks that they buy. I'm here at home and just need to go outside and see a show.
There used to be a law (not sure if it is still on the books) that when you buy fireworks--these are at giant tents that show up about two weeks before July 4--that you have to sign something stating that you are buying the fireworks to scare away birds (or something like that). Of course people are buying them for July 4.
So actually only sparklers are legal but people get around the law saying that they are scaring birds away!

They are legal to pop outside of the city limits, and only can be sold until midnight tonight.

PA is so weird. We have several fireworks stores here (since we are just over the MD/PA line) and you can't buy them if you have a PA license. Any other state license and you are fine.

No - not in most areas of the metro. But, you couldn't tell it by what is going on outside my office window! Lots of booms!

We live in rural Kentucky, and they are legal here. For years, the closest live fireworks was well over an hour away so my in-laws started doing a show at their lake. It's turned into an annual event with live music, food, and a fireworks show as good as any city display around. There are EMTs and the local fire dept brings a truck as a precaution. Unfortunately, it was rained out this year.

The safe and sane are legal and it makes no sense. In California we have been fighting fires for weeks on end here. Many people have lost their homes. Not only have we had a five-year drought, our air quality is the worst in the nation.
Our community leaders need a spine. The fireworks stands are fundraisers so they won't shut them down. It's so stupid. There are plenty of other ways to raise money.
That said, I love huge fireworks displays. If we had one or two public displays, I could get behind those but we have too much to lose to allow people to set off their own.

Illegal in our town and the three towns surrounding us. But sadly that doesn't stop everyone. We've been hearing them since Friday and non stop for the past hour or so I just tell my pups to hang in there, the jerks that think the laws are for everyone else will run out eventually.

Only the "Safe and Sane" ones are legal in my county, but you can easily purchase the illegal ones an hour out of town, and many people do. Fireworks booths are one of the biggest fundraisers for HS athletics, and marching bands every year.

They are illegal within city limits here. I guess my neighbors all around me missed that memo. It has been booming around us for over an hour now.

The mayor lives across the street from me, and the ones he shot off in our subdivision were awesome.

They are not legal in our city, but the county sells them. Apparently some jack holes in our neighborhood thought the rules didn't apply to them. Im having a serious meltdown now as the fireworks have a deep boom and are rattling my windows bringing back flashbacks of the accident. First time I have been in this situation..where I lived before people didn't set them off. Its been a rough night

They're illegal in Seattle and have been for years. There's one show in town, and it's a pain in the neck to get to just because of the vast number of people. So I haven't seen 4th of July fireworks in years, though I do hear them.

Not where I live. But they are on the beaches in Maui, and we're on vacation. The ones they sell are pretty tame, but this is the only time my kids can experience lighting them off.

No, we are in the unincorporated part of our county so they are not illegal. If you live a mile down the road they are illegal unless you buy the more tame ones licensed to be sold in our county. We don't set them off (legal or illegal).
