My ddh received an amazing offer from Mutual of Omaha for life insurance. You CANNOT be turned down regardless of poor health. No medical exams. No health questions. Isn't that awesome? None of us ever like receiving junk mail but this one really bugged me. I had every intention of calling and telling them how great their offer was before lowering the boom. But I couldn't. I did call and spell out what I said in the above paragraph, and that my dh had died a year ago already. I said it more kindly than I wanted. Which ticks me off a little bit. But hopefully we won't be getting any more mail from them. They almost removed fil's name instead.

So sorry that you had such upsetting junk mail, I don't think that I would have been very polite to them when I rung back. In fact I know that I would not have. {{{hugs}}}

I remember getting one of those after Fred's first or second hospital stay. The conversation we had completing that survey!!! Me: yes you can complain about THIS but not about THAT. Him: then why don't you fill out the survey! Me: thanks I think I will.

ugh...what a kick in the gut. I'm sorry you had to handle that. About a year or two after my father died, my mother & sister send me flowers for my birthday but 1-800-Flowers put "love mom and dad" on the card. I know there's no way my mother or sister made that mistake.

Yes, my DH called last week on my recently deceased FIL's newspaper subscription to cancel it. He explains Dad is deceased, the guy actually asks DH if he just wants to change subscription to the weekend only? DH - says, your subscriber is dead - no! Representative then says to DH, "how about you, when can I start your service". UGH!

In fact I know that I would not have. {{{hugs}}} It probably would have been an entirely different conversation if I called in the moment. Sadly I left a stack of mail undealt with the past few weeks and discovered a few bills requiring "immediate If not sooner " attention. By the time I dealt with those the fire went out.

For 2-1/2 years after FIL passed away, we received mail for a Veteran's cremation service, like a prepaid thing, I think. They finally stopped the SECOND time I returned it to them with the note "Cremated in 2013, no further need."

When I saw your post title I was all set to come here and complain about my a/c being out. Then when I saw what it was, my a/c really didn't matter all that much.
You are a class act!

I was staying at my dad's place after he passed away. Phone rings on the day of his funeral and the caller says "This is Jane from XYZ Life Insurance. May I speak to John Smith. I reply I'm sorry he passed away. She then says, well is Mrs. Smith there-maybe she would be interested in life insurance. I hung up the phone rather loudly (it was an cool 1940's heavy black one)
jejie, sadly it takes time to get the garbage mail to stop coming. I know it opens the wound each time. You might my SIL's tactic. She opened all the junk mailfor my FIL and if it had a prepaid return envelope, she wrote "deceased" on the card and sent it back to them at their cost. Worked like a charm.

You a/c being out is absolutely something to complain about! And I hate that I have a sore back from digging up a 5 foot weed. I can't help myself. It's like a sickness I want to see how big they can get. Not all of them. And then I need a shovel and it turns into a big production when I should have pulled the weed 59 inches ago.

My late FIL's own doctor's office called a year later to make schedule him for an appointment! My MIL was far nicer than I would have been.

I'll never forget the hassle we had to turn off dad's cell phone service while he was in a coma with TBI before he died. The guy at the cell company said, "Well, he might wake up and want to make a call. And then what?"

For 2 years after my Mom died we got a letter for her to help at the State Fair. We called both years and explained that she died and to take her name off the list. When we got the letter the third year I was a little more direct and not as nice, not completley rude, but not nice. We have not received another letter since then.
As long as my father lived on the farm after her death, every once in a while he would receive some piece of mail for most, always junk mail of some kind. Once he moved it was cut back a lot because her name was not on the forwarding list.

I'm glad you were not rude to the clerk who answered at Mutual of Omaha. That person had nothing to do with the offer in the mail. It is unfortunate that the mailing lists are not kept up to date.
For over 20 years after my father's death, we still received mail offers in his name. The worst was someone who wanted to speak to my father and I told him he'd have to go over to the cemetery and see if he could get a response. Then the man proceeded to argue with me about whether my father was dead or not. This was obviously a face to face situation. Eventually the man decided he had my father and uncle mixed up.

i do have a good story that relates
my dad was a total car aficionado
after my dad died all his mail was forwarded us -
somehow a major car parts company had our address listed under his name
my dad died in 2001 and last summer my husband ordered a part from this company and they asked if he was related to John Clayton - the look on my husband's face was priceless
it was nice to hear his name - and a little weird
kinda like a God Wink
and this new tarzan movie - tarzan's real name is John Clayton - my dad's name.
i like it when the commercial comes on just to hear his name

My late FIL's own doctor's office called a year later to make schedule him for an appointment! My MIL was far nicer than I would have been. Ouch. If that happened at our family doctor's office the doctor himself would not be happy because he is a personal friend. The urologist office did call and left several messages even though I sent a very nice letter thanking them and letting them know he died. I called a few times and left a message. If I had received another letter I would have had to go to the office.
