...when do you clean your house?
I'm curious when you all get it all done. I'm trying to workout a good schedule for us.

I'll do parts of the main floor before I go workout in the morning. I won't vacuum but everything else gets done on that floor.
Our upstairs we will do over the weekend. If nothing is going on I will clean Friday night. It gets it done and out of the way before the weekend!

I have a cleaning lady for the big stuff, but I do laundry once a week, and I keep my kitchen clean constantly. DS will help out as well. It also helps that I live less than 2 miles from work, so I don't spend a lot of time commuting.

Let me say that while I do a little every day, I do not focus on cleaning. I just can't be bothered to spend my time at home cleaning. I straighten up, take trash out, sweep the floor, throw in a load of laundry - husband takes care of dishes. The rest just doesn't get done on a regular basis.
DH is a teacher and he's home this summer so he's been cleaning bathrooms and other chores. But I feel like eventually I will be at home retired and have time to clean and I'll do it then.

I voted for days off but I would do a little something every work day so that I would have some down time on my days off.

The kitchen gets cleaned every evening after dinner, but the rest gets done on my days off. I work 4 x 10's, so that third day off is a great cleaning day.

I'm a SAHM now but when I was a working mum - a little bit every day and then Saturdays was my big cleaning day - I usually tried to get the cleaning done by noon so we could have the afternoon for family stuff (Sundays were for Mass in the morning and family stuff in the afternoon - but dinnertime/bedtime was earlier because of school/work)
I will say that 1) the house didn't get as messy/dirty when everyone was gone at school/work all day and 2) my standards were lower as a working mum - I just couldn't do it all so I did the important stuff and the rest just didn't happen or didn't happen as often. [oh and 3) we had a flat not a house so less space and no yardwork - less kids too]
So on weekdays I focused on dishes and homework and the cat box and if I had time/energy I threw in a load of laundry and tidied up some. Saturdays is when I cleaned the bathrooms, swept/mopped the kitchen, hoovered the carpets, stripped beds, did laundry, dusted.

You know I work full time and I'm a student. I have been paying my kids to do the vast majority of the cleaning. My house seems like it is never clean to my standards but you know I figure when all the kids are grown then I'll have that spotless house. Until then I spend my sunday morning doing one deep cleaning chore...usually the kitchen or my bathroom...

A general pick up around the house before bed every night, one load of laundry a night (plus about 500 more on a weekend) and a full house clean either Saturday or Sunday depending on what the weekend holds. I would love a cleaner and a gardener, but sadly (for me) that's not in the budget.

Little bits at a time get done. The kitchen gets cleaned regularly as I'm cooking and cleaning up from meals. The counters get wiped down every night, and the garbage and recycling are controlled easy. The bathroom is small, and I try to keep it clean all the time too. I might spray the tub down with cleaner as I'm getting ready in the mornings, and once the scrubbing bubbles have done their thing I quick wipe it down and spray...it really only takes a couple minutes. A different day I might clean the toilet in the same way...scrub, wait for it to set while I'm getting ready, then finish. The living room is always picked up. Vacuuming is done a lot on Friday afternoon when I get home from work before others are home. That way, it's just done for the weekend it's really just a couple of rugs and the couches. Hardwood floors make this go fast! A quick swipe of the duster and the floors are done! Laundry is frequent, but easy to remember since the cats are fed right there.

I do a little bit every day. I would hate to spend my days off cleaning. I have a rough schedule I keep to so each part of the house is cleaned during the week. I do leave big projects for the weekend but that doesn't happen every weekend.

you don't have an option for my choice, which is: whenever it gets bad enough that we need to...
Seriously, though-- we should just hire house cleaners, but haven't done it yet. Maybe after we move in a couple months, I'll talk my BF into it- that way the new house will be clean right from the start and we can keep it that way.
ETA: I'll throw in a load of laundry a couple times a week in the evening, or do it on Sunday afternoon / evening. We vacuum up any dust bunnies as they get really bad, I take care of the litterbox and cats whenever, and my BF will clean the bathrooms whenever they absolutely need it.
We don't have a set schedule for any of it: I cannot stand taking up time on the weekend to clean the house. (my Mom did it every Saturday morning, and I honestly think I'm rebelling against that-- cleaning the house is one of the LAST things on my list to do on a weekend, now, as an adult.)

I can't add a 4th option: we are supposed to clean our houses?

Clean as I go, breakfast, dinner. Bed made in the morning. The rest of the house I do on the week-end. Vacuum, sweep, mop, bathrooms, laundry, or as I call it "never a day off." This is one I'm currently struggling with. I work M-F, 8am-5pm with a good 1.5 drive. So on my days off I usually spend cleaning up & getting all the errands done. It really sucks. I never have time for just me. It's an ongoing battle.

I like the idea of a little everyday so my weekends are free but my commute is too long so I am wiped when i get home. I just do "good enough" on the weekends. The kitchen is cleaned everyday- I assign days to family members. My days are on the weekend because of the commute. I basically just make dinner and play with the dogs and veg on weeknights!

I do all of the cooking and errand running, and DH does all of the cleaning. He usually cleans the upstairs one week and the downstairs the other week. That wasn't an option in your poll.

I have a housekeeper who does the deep cleaning every other week. Otherwise I try and keep it picked up daily.

I said days off but that's not strictly correct. I work from home every alternate Friday and that's when I do the cleaning - I get up early and get it done before I start work. If I have a lot of spring cleaning or big jobs to do then I might do some of it on Saturday. I used to have a cleaner come every two weeks but when I added up what the cost would be over 10 years I decided I'd rather have $15k to put towards my mortgage! I live alone so don't really make much of a mess

I have a cleaner every two weeks but we are good about keeping things tidy during the week. my DH usually vacuums and starts a load of laundry when he gets home from work. We never have enough time on the weekends to do what we want to do so there is no way I'm going to waste that precious time cleaning bathrooms.

I do most of it on the weekend although I will do laundry and some light stuff a couple of evenings during the week. I had a maid several years ago but she retired and I never got another one. My husband has been telling me to get another one and I recently got a lead on one that is supposed to be very good so hopefully in the next couple of months I will have one again. When I had a maid they came every other week and do all the major cleaning, but no laundry. That way all I have to do it sweeping and vacuuming in between their visits.

I really want to get to where I do a little each evening, but when I come home from work, I turn into a slug. I blame the comfy furniture! I usually just wind up spend a weekend day cleaning, which irritates me to no end. I really need to find a way to motivate myself to do bits during the week.

I worked full time and always came home from work and did 7 things. It might be pay bills, wipe off the counter, throw in a load of laundry, etc. I did that for five days a week, and then whatever needed to be finished on the weekend. It rarely took me an hour to clean or finish laundry on the weekend.

Mostly, it's during the week. I used to wait until the weekends, but then that was what I was doing EVERY weekend. And I want to enjoy my weekends, dammit! So, it depends on what I want to do. Laundry gets put in the washer in the am, put on a timer so when I get home, it is just washed, then I can toss them in the dryer and another load in if needed - still have 2 loads done by 7pm. I will clean the bathroom one night, dust another night. My advice, don't sit down when you get home!! Keep moving! If you do sit, it's all over...

If you can find a way to have a cleaning person, it's totally worth it IMO. We have ours come once a week. The kitchen gets cleaned daily, and the cleaning lady coming every Friday forces us to pick up all our crap on Thursday if we haven't done it already, because I'm paying for her to mop floors and scrub toilets, not to put away everyone's shoes and books and pick up dirty clothes. The girls do their own laundry whenever they feel like it's necessary, and DH does his laundry and mine on weekends (I do all the cooking, so that's our tradeoff). Since I'm a teacher, I do all the yearly cleaning out of closets and cabinets, cleaning grout, moving the furniture to clean, etc. in the summer. I have the kitchen grout on my list for tomorrow.

I appreciate all of these responses! Currently I work 7am-4pm and I commute an hour at least each way. I get home at 5pm and workout until 6pm and then start dinner. We are done with dinner and cleaning up by 8pm and then I'm wiped! I have zero energy to clean, it's the most I can do to do a load of laundry and put it away. I'll be honest though - house cleaning is not my priority but I must have a clean kitchen and bathroom. However, the pups make the house super dusty and the floors are quite scary. I'd love to get someone that would come in and do the floors every other week however, like, anniefb stated - that money looks so much better in my bank account.

That's us almost exactly as we're both out of the house a good 12 hours a day. There is just the 2 of us so nothing gets too bad thankfully. We do keep on top of the dishes and kitchen counters, cat litter and the (worst of) the bathroom during the week but the vast majority happens at the weekend - and definitely not to a pristine standard!

My dh works offshore and is gone two weeks out of the month so it is those weekends I do the deep cleaning. I clean the kitchen everyday and sweep/vacuum daily if need be. I do have a bad habit of letting laundry pile up but even that is usually put off until the weekend.
