Our cheap ones from the big box stores aren't accurate anymore. Do you have one you love? I know I can go look at reviews on Amazon, but really Pea opinion is always my first choice. TIA.

I got a digital one (Food Network brand) on clearance from Kohl's I think last summer. OMG, why didn't someone tell me to stop using that damn manual dial type one ages ago?
I don't really know what other features to tell you to look for, although it might be nice to have ntsf's that lets you select the meat you're using. Although my recipes usually tell me what temperature I'm looking for. It would be nice if it had the reference temps on it in case the recipe didn't, though.

I have a digital Oxo thermometer that is awesome. The probe goes into the meat, and the cord comes out of the oven and attaches to a unit you set on the counter. You can watch as the temperature climbs, and an alarm goes off when the desired temperature is reached.

I have the Thermapen that's recommended so often by America's Test Kitchen and that I see on food shows all the time. It is possibly the best $80 I've spent on my kitchen in the past few years. I was hesitant at first given the price tag, but I've had bad luck with so many others and was tired of getting splattered with grease or whatever while waiting for the others to take forever to read. YMMV
Now, if you are wanting one that you can stick in the meat and then place it in the oven, I just grabbed one at the store that I recognized from food shows but I don't remember the brand.

I have a Pampered Chef one that I love. I checked their website, and I do not see it anymore. It is digital, and Jili's description could apply to it. I would recommend following her lead.

My DH works in institutional food service -- they are serious about things being cooked and held at the correct temps. They use this type of simple, instant read thermometer: Taylor thermometer

I have the ikitchen thermometer, it is similar to the Oxo described above, but it has Bluetooth and a phone app, so you aren't tied to being near the kitchen to check the temp.

I work in the food industry too. In commercial kitchens we use cheap dial thermometers. At home I have two Thermapens. They are too expensive for commercial use, those take serious abuse, but I've been known to take my Thermapens with me when I know I'll need a super fast read out

I have a ThermaPen for instant reads. And, I have a ChefAlarm from the same company (Thermoworks) that I can leave the probe in the meat with the thermometer outside the oven and it beeps when it reaches the set temperature.

I have several. An instant read, an infrared thermometer, a wireless thermometer, and a cooking thermometer. By far, I use the corded cooking thermometer. I have this one. Meat thermometer I use it most often for oven cooking, like chicken, pork chops, a tenderloin, etc. I just put it in the meat and set the timer for the desired temp. When the timer goes off, the meat is done. When I'm cooking on the stovetop, I usually use the instant read thermometer, just because it's easier to work without the cord and easier to grab the meat and test it, rather than pulling the whole dish out of the oven. DH likes the wireless thermometer for grilling. It's new, so I amy switch over to that one if I'm in another part of the house. The temperature read out is on your phone rather than the device itself.

I have a digital one I bought at walmart a long time ago and it's still going strong. I don't know the brand. I just check it using boiling water every so often and so far it's been very accurate. I bought a longer one for the grill and I'm not crazy about it. It takes way longer to read the temp. It was cheap though and seems to be only a couple of degrees off.

I have a manual dial one ... I can read it OK. I also have a digital I spent about $12 or so on. I like the digital one much better! So much easier to read. I like exact. ;-)
