I have a ton of them. I really don't want to hold on to them for months and take them 10 at a time to Office Max. Staples will only give credit if you've spent $30 on ink at Staples in the past month, which I haven't done (usually pick it up at Target). Has anyone tried one of the online sell-back sites?

I was only getting a penny for them at Office Max -- frankly, that wasn't worth the trouble of saving them and hauling them.
I'll be following to see what anyone else says, but I'm in the toss it mode!

I take mine to Office Depot with no expectation of getting any kind of 'reward points' for them. I don't have so many that it makes any kind of difference and I would rather recycle than toss.
I suppose it I used more I might have a different perspective though.

You could try the other office stores in your area. They used to offer $2-$3 per, but since I went with a laser jet instead of an ink jet, those cartridges last so long I haven't had anything to recycle in a year and a-half, so things could have changed since then. :-)
Some charities ask for cartridges so that they can get the money for recycling them. I'm honestly not sure how you would find out which charities in your area do that.
I've also seen recycling bins at the front of Target that includes ink cartridges. |

I've seen ppl selling them for good money on ebay (depends on the brand). The type I use goes for some decent $$. I have stockpiled a huge bag full I need to list.

When I was working, I would take mine and my department's cartridges back to Office Max.
Now, I'm retired and don't use that many and Office Max is not worth the trip so....I toss them.

I just took three of them to Staples and got credit and I didn't spend $30 last month on ink.
I always take our to Staples and have never not received my rewards credit.

I have a laser printer and haven't had to replace cartridges in a couple of years. But when I did it last time I gave them to the horticultural society they recycle them for the money.
Our dump has a place for stuff like that so if the hort society stops taking them that is where they will go. I will not throw them in the garbage. I personally (just me) think that would be an irresponsible action on my part.

HP used to include a postage paid envelope with a new cartridge so you could mail back the old one. Since they quit doing that, mine go in the trash. I'm all for recycling, but if it is going to take a lot of time and effort (not to mention the gas) to go recycle things, it won't be happening here.

I put a big bag of them up for free-cycle and a woman came and picked them up. She volunteers at a non-profit and they get money for them. So now whenever I have a bag full, I email her. I swear we have 3 printers that are ink-aholics.

I just put out 10 cartridges to take to Staples last week. I didn't know they had changed their policy and require an ink purchase. My printer is so old, they don't carry ink for it unless you buy all the colors in one set and they are higher priced than doing them individually through Epson.com. Plus our Staples closed so I have to drive to a town I seldom go to. I think these cartridges may be taken to OfficeMax or Office Depot just to be a good recycler.

Since hp stopped giving the return envelopes I toss them too. I generally only go thru a handful every year. It's not worth the effort to drive them to Staples. I purchase them online.

I'm afraid I don't know about the facilities where you live, but if you really don't want to keep hold of them, and can't find an alternative outlet, how about advertising on Craigslist for people to collect them from you for free, in return for their taking them for recycling and recouping the pennies?

I never knew recycling ink cartridges was such a big thing. Our local Staples used to give credit on them but the last time I looked into it the program was pretty worthless for someone like me that isn't a heavy user and since Staples is quite out of the way I never thought about it again. I use maybe one ink cartridge per year. I throw them away when I'm finished.

I have no idea if BB pays, but I buy my cartridges from Costco, as they have more ink and last longer. I think Target has a bin as well. I'm going to check next time! Target is much more confident for me than BB. |

I just stick them in the recycling bin at one of the stores that has a bin for them. (In my area, Staples and Best Buy have dedicated bins for ink cartridges.) I used to save them for rewards, but it's not worth it at this point.

Target has bins. I dump mine there. We only refill our printer maybe 2 times a year, so we don't have too cartridges.

We don't get money for them here as far as I know, but there are places that recycle them. I have a Canon printer so have my used cartridges in a box in the garage. when it's full, I'll take it to the Canon offices.

I take them to Staples and get the reward dollars for them. I end up getting a coupon for a few dollars off a purchase every quarter. I bought a printer that takes high capacity ink cartridges so now I don't go through nearly as many as I used to.

The school where I work used to recycle ink cartridges for money but it was so time consuming and expensive to do it that we made little money on it. So we stopped the program and we just drop them in the bin at Staples or BB and don't worry about the credit. It's good enough for us to do the ecologically sensible thing and that is pretty easy for us as we are at Staples frequently.
