Gray. I'm surprised so many non Europeans are saying grey. I almost never see it that way.

Grey is UK/British and gray is American. Believe me, it drives us nuts in publishing because you have pay attention to whether the characters are American or not and adjust accordingly!
Other Brit/American spellings:
Towards (British)/toward (American) ditto for forward and backward
Travelling (British) , Traveling (American)

Grey (not a native speaker, but the Queen's English was taught in school, and the teachers were "public school" strict about it and yes, that's "public school" the UK way).

I think I use them interchangeably. I wish we could use affect/effect like that because I can never, after 48 years, remember which one is correct. I can distinguish between affect/ effect but I too use gray/ grey interchangeably.

I know that gray is the more common American spelling, but I always spell it grey. Don't know why, I've just always done it.

I'm American but I spell it "grey" It just looks prettier to me...
One time in high school a teacher took off a spelling point for spelling it "grey!"

Gray. I've seen it spelled grey when referring to hair.

I'm American but I spell it "grey" It just looks prettier to me... I was going to say the exact same thing, but I thought it would sound really odd. Kudos to you for being the oddball with your very first post! (I'll go a tad oddballier, though, and add that I've always thought "grey" looks more like the color it's describing than "gray" does.)
